Chapter 989 Meeting Up With An Old Friend By Coincidence
Soon, the pot of tea was ready. Raylan poured a cup for each person.
"Oh, I ran into some trouble and left the research group. It so happened that I have a friend here and came over for a visit. I like the culture and customs here. So, I stayed and started a pub."
As Raylan poured the tea, he explained why he was here.
However, no one could tell if he was telling the truth.
There was no reason for Anderson to dwell further in the matter.
Where the both of them were now, they could no longer interact like ordinary people.
Pursuing the matter further would not be of benefit but would cause embarrassment.
After taking a sip of tea, Clarissa commented with a smile, "What a coincidence that both of you are classmates. And then my Aunt Chantel got into trouble in your pub. Mr. Osborn, I'm sure no one will believe such a coincidence."
Raylan stopped what he was doing.
Then, he glanced at Clarissa, who just spoke.
"This is..."
Immediately, Anderson introduced everyone to Raylan, "This is my wife, Clarissa Chapman. This is my aunt, Chantel Jordan, and this is Mr. Jenkins."
Quickly, Mr. Jenkins smiled and shook Raylan's hand.
Raylan smiled and commented, "I see. I didn't expect you're married."
There was no need for Raylan to hold back anything since Clarissa was Anderson's wife.
Then, he smiled awkwardly and clarified, "I'm sorry. My apologies for what happened earlier. The dead man is one of the bouncers in the pub. I've checked. Miss Jordan has nothing to do with his death. I asked the forensic people to examine him just to calm those men. Please don't take offense."
With a thin smile, Clarissa replied, "Of course, we won't take offense since you and Anderson used to be classmates. However, it looks like your men already know the real situation without having to call the forensic people."
Suddenly, the atmosphere turned cold at Clarissa's words.
Chantel looked at them in confusion. She could not really understand what they were discussing.
Then, Raylan looked at Clarissa closely and answered,
"Mrs. Jordan is exceptional. No wonder you managed to hold Anderson's heart."
The tense atmosphere eased up in less than two seconds with his wit.
Smiling faintly, he explained, "Mrs. Jordan is correct. My men are fine. Unfortunately, they have bad habits that they cannot change. Perhaps they can see that Miss Jordan is not a local and is generous, and that stirred up bad intentions. This Frankie had health issues, and they instigated him to provoke Miss Jordan, which led to this misunderstanding."
In a flash, Chantel understood what was going on and stood up excitedly.
"That means I didn't kill anyone. I was framed by your men!"
Put on the spot, Raylan looked embarrassed.
Then, Clarissa smiled and described, "All of them are regulars in the boxing ring. They should be familiar with this kind of injury. This man was part of their circle and would spend a lot of time together. He had a big blood clot in the back of his head. I could see the swelling that had already occured. He must have exhibited some abnormal symptoms over the past few day, such as dizziness, unsteady walk, and a pallid look. The others must have known of these symptoms and guessed that he had not much longer to live, so they purposely provoke him to collide with my aunt. If this is not vicious, at the least it is cruel."
After Clarissa's detailed account of the events, Raylan's face changed to be very brooding.
For a fact, it was not that he did not already know what Clarissa was talking about.
However, these are his men, and he had to cover for them. So, he thought that the best way was to cover up the incident.
When the outcry was over, he would settle with these troublemakers. At that time, it would only be a family business.
Unexpectedly, Clarissa saw through the whole plan and spilled it out.
Chantel could not believe what she just heard.
Fuming with anger, Chantel could not keep still and snapped, "Oh my goodness! All the while, I thought they were upset over the man's death and asked me for compensation. Now I know it is an extortion scam all the way through. Very well. Since your people did it this way, I'll return in kind. I'll call the police and wreck your rotten pub for good."
While she spoke, she groped for her cell phone.
Looking at Chantel, Anderson could feel a headache coming.
"Aunt Chantel!"
Anderson yelled.
Stunned, Chantel turned and looked at Anderson, "What?"
Clarrisa had to calm Chantel down. So, she explained to Chantel, "Aunt Chantel, don't be hasty to call the police. Mr. Osborn and Anderson were classmates. They will sort this out their way. Please stay calm."
Her words made sense to Chantel, and Chantel replaced her cell phone.
Then, she glared at Raylan and asked, "Tell me. How do you wish to settle this?"
After a short pause, she added, "Let me make it clear. I'm directly involved in this, but I am cutting some slack as you and Anderson were classmates. But, If I am not satisfied with your way, I won't just let this slide."
Now that Chantel knew that she was the aggrieved party, her attitude changed.
Raylan knew that this could turn hostile if not settled amicably.
Unconsciously, he rubbed his forehead and agreed meekly,
"All right, Miss Jordan. Don't worry. We'll settle this incident to your satisfaction. Deal?"
Then, Chantel snorted in reply.
Not long later, the forensic doctor came with the post mortem report.
As expected, Chantel did not cause the man's death when she pushed him against the glass table.
When the man was in a fight the previous night, his opponent elbowed the back of his head. At that time, there was no open wound and no blood. The man only felt dizzy and paid no attention to it.
Only when the man was home did he feel a headache and nausea.
Although his colleagues found out about these symptoms, they were better friends with this man's adversary in the fight.
As for this man, his martial skills were good. However, he was bullied and discriminated against because of his height.
So, the other colleagues plotted to make some money from his death.
Then, the other colleagues chose a victim among the quests. Finally, they settled on an outsider, which was the foolish-looking and rich Chantel.
It was just not her lucky day.
All she wanted was to see some new things and spend some money. She never thought that she would be targeted and extorted for money.
The group of boxers did not dare to let the matter blow up. So, they only asked her to pay money.
Little did they expect to hit a brick wall instead.
When the forensic doctor finished his report, Raylan's face was gloomy.
The group of boxers was very anxious now that their plot had been exposed. However, they could not escape even if they wanted to.
