Chapter 464 Passing Of Life

Clarissa nodded and looked in the direction of the ward.
"How is grandpa?"
When it came to this, Gimmy's face instantly became sombre.
He sighed.
"He doesn't have much time left. You should go in and have a look. Remember to make a long story short."
Clarissa nodded.
She stepped into the ward. Anderson, Jameson, and the others were waiting outside the door. They did not follow Clarissa into the ward.
They knew that at this time, the only person Old Master Levine wanted to see was Clarissa. Therefore, the others had better not disturb them.
Clarissa put on her hazmat suit and walked in alone.
On the bed, Old Master Levine, who was on the verge of his death, was lying there with his eyes slightly closed. When he heard the sound of footsteps, he opened his eyes slightly and looked at her with difficulty.
Clarissa stopped in her tracks.
She had told herself to be strong, but when she saw Old Master Levine lying there, she couldn't help but have tears welling up in her eyes.
"Cla... Clarissa."
He stretched out his hand to her, and Clarissa pursed her lips. She tried to hold back her tears before she quickly walked up to him and held his hand.
"Grandpa, you're awake. How do you feel?"
Old Master Levine looked at her with slightly misty eyes.
After a while, he said weakly, "I thought I was dreaming. It's really you."
At this moment, when she heard his words, Clarissa could no longer pretend to be strong.
Holding Old Master Levine's thin hand, she was crying so hard that she could not even utter a word.
Compared to Clarissa who was grieving, Old Master Levine seemed much calmer.
He lay there quietly and looked at her with a sympathetic and loving look. After a long while, he whispered, "Clarissa, listen to me."
Clarissa whimpered and nodded.
But her tears didn't stop.
Perhaps he felt that he had little time left, so he did not force her to stop crying.
He said slowly, "In my life, I know I'm sorry for three people."
"Cough... Firstly, it is your mother. If it wasn't for me back then, she wouldn't have separated from her lover, and she wouldn't suffered depression at such a young age. I was too... selfish. I thought that breaking the two of them up was the best choice for her, so I deliberately caused misunderstanding between the two of them, your ..."
"Your mother had been blaming me for the rest of her life. I have always wanted to apologize to her in person. The second person is your father."
"Your father was a good man. What happened between him and Vivian was not his fault. It was rather his family tradition's fault and fate had taken a toll on them. Back then, your father was completely disheartened after I forced them to be apart. That was why he decided to take his own life. I'm sorry for him."
"The third one is you."
He suddenly turned his head slowly and looked at Clarissa, caressing her face with his slender hand, as tears welling up in his eyes.
"Clarissa, I made a mistake in my life. It's my fault that you had been wandering outside at such a young age. I have not much time left now. There's no way to make up for it. I hope you won't hate me."
After that, he started coughing violently, as if he were going to cough out his lungs.
Clarissa quickly reached out to help him catch his breath. Old Master Levine closed his eyes and slowly said, "Clarissa, I owe you too much, so it doesn't matter even if you don't accept me as your grandfather after I die. I've already signed up to be an organ donor. I just want to do the last thing for the world with all that is left of me and to make up for what I've done to you..."
"Grandpa, don't say that."
Clarissa choked with sobs.
"Good girl, you have to be fine. You have my blessing. You must live well."
As soon as he finished his words, his voice almost became inaudible.
Clarissa only felt that the hand she was holding suddenly softened.
Then it suddenly sank to the ground.
Clarissa was immediately stunned, and her heart seemed to sink at the same time.
Next to him, the heartbeat monitor began to beep rapidly. Gimmy came in from the outside. Just with a glance, his facial expression changed greatly.
He ran out and shouted, "Doctor, where is the doctor?"
"Coming!"
A doctor at the side ran in. Gimmy looked at Clarissa. She stood there like a statue with a pair of empty eyes. Her face was as pale as a ghost, looking numb and empty.
He suddenly felt a little sympathy for her, and after a while, he sighed softly.
"Clarissa, get up first."
One by one, Clarissa's fingers slowly curled into a fist.
There was a buzz in her ear. All of a sudden, she was pulled away by someone, and then her body fell into a warm embrace.
Anderson helped her up as he looked at the doctors who were trying to rescue Old Master Levine without any expression on his face.
However, there was no hope left.
More than ten minutes later, the doctor announced the death of Old Master Levine.
Because Old Master Levine had signed up for organ donation before, the doctors had taken him away to remove organs from him before it was too late.
After all, Gimmy was a man who was a few decades older than her, so he was used to the concept of mortality.
Seeing how lost Clarissa looked right now, he walked over with a heavy heart.
"They are going to take him away, you..." Gimmy paused, and finally said in a low voice, "Do you want anything from him as a token of remembrance?"
Once he signed up to be an organ donor, no one would be able to touch anything on the donor's body even if it was a relative of his.
Clarissa looked at him, and finally shook her head.
"As long as I have him in my heart, that will be the best token of remembrance."
Gimmy nodded. Soon, the doctor found a few staff and pushed them out.
After that, there were a lot of formalities to be done, so Gimmy naturally left with them. The whole ward was empty all of a sudden.
Clarissa stood there, the sunlight coming in through the window and shining on her shoulders, however, it felt as cold as snow.
She slightly closed her eyes. There seemed to still be the remnants of Old Master Levine's presence in the air, as well as those words that had been relayed to her.
"Clarissa, don't hate me..."
Tears rolled down her cheeks in an instant.
Anderson furrowed his brows even deeper as he saw this, while he hugged her even tighter.
Clarissa leaned on him feebly, like a lonely boat in the sea, finally finding a place to dock.
Clarissa could no longer restrain herself. She grabbed the clothes on his shoulder and burst into tears.
At some point, Jameson also came in. Seeing this, he sighed.
"Clarissa, he has gone to a better place. My deepest condolences to you."
Clarissa didn't say a word.
There was a cry outside, and all of them were from the Levine family.
At this time, whether they were pretending or not, everyone showed nothing but grief.
......
Old Master Levine's funeral was very simple.
This was specially requested by Old Master Levine when he was alive.
He thought he had done more harm than good in his life. Therefore, he wanted to keep his funeral simple and low-key. Except for some people who were close to him, he did not allow anyone else to attend his funeral.
A cenotaph was being enacted for the funeral. Old Master Levine had spent half of his life in the military and had long been indifferent to life and death. He never cared about the complicated formalities after death.
