Chapter 974 Refuse to Remember

Finally, one day, Sierra's detective brought her a piece of news.
According to the detective, Gianni had gone to Lena's villa. So, he urged Sierra to bring a camera there and capture the proof of Gianni having an affair.
Right away, she drove there.
At first, it was a smooth journey. However, as soon as her car went on the overpass, it lost control, crashed through the barrier, and fell to the bottom of the bridge.
In fact, the river beneath the overpass was the most torrential and dangerous in Visstead.
Moreover, it was flood season, and the tide was rising. If the car crashed into the river, she would have low chances to survive.
In the end, the car crashed, and she was gone.
As for what happened after that, Clarissa knew it well.
After Robert told these, he explained, "We only found out later that Gianni bribed the private detective. He was also the one who tempered the car to create an illusion of an accident."
Hearing that, Chantel was bewildered and asked, "How did she survive then? Who saved her?"
Robert answered calmly, "Me."
With a pause, he looked at Clarissa and added, "At that time, I wanted to take my chance. So, I went to look for her by the river. Thankfully, I found her at the end of the river. Although Gianni and the others also reported to the police and sent people to look for her, they didn't want Sierra to live. So, those people just perfunctorily walked around and deliberately dragged the time, refusing to look for her downstream. It was also because of this that I had a chance to save her."
At this moment, Clarissa was expressionless. If her clenched fingers didn't betray her emotions, others might assume that she didn't care about Sierra.
Robert continued, "At that time, Sierra was not dead, but she was severely injured because she made a strenuous effort to escape from the car during the last moment. That night, I took her out of Visstead and went to other cities. I am afraid that if she stayed in Visstead, someone would inform the Chapman family, and she would be done for. After all, many people knew her there. Then, after she recovered a little, we went to the desert and lived in seclusion until now."
When Clarissa heard that, her fingertips trembled. After a while, she asked, "Why didn't you tell me?"
Robert froze.
Clarissa's eyes were red, and there were tears in them.
"You knew very well how desperately I wished that she was still alive, and I would never tell anyone about her. Why didn't you tell me?"
Upon hearing her question, Robert lowered his head with guilt.
Just then, Sierra spoke.
While nervously grabbing the corner of Robert's clothes, she uttered in a trembling voice, "It's... it's not his fault. I didn't allow him to say."
Stunned, Clarissa looked at Sierra in disbelief.
With that, Sierra pursed her lips.
Although she was unwilling to face this matter, under Clarissa's coercion, she had to face it.
Therefore, she plucked up her courage and looked up at Clarissa calmly.
"When I woke up, I only had Robert with me. I didn't remember why I fell into the river, what happened in the past, and the fact that I had a husband and a daughter. To me, this was a whole new world."
"Robert knew about me. So, after I completely recovered, he asked me if I wanted to know about my past. He was willing to tell me everything."
"However, whenever I heard about my past, my brain will be aching, and I will feel suffocated as if someone is squeezing my heart."
"That terrible feeling is beyond description. All I know is that I don't want to recall it, and I refuse to face it."
"If humans really have the chance to live a second life, losing memory could be a chance. God may have noticed that I was too unhappy before that, so he gave me such a chance. Why should I recall all those unhappy memories then?"
"Having that thought, I refused Robert. I knew that it must be a bad past, and I shouldn't waste this lavish gift that God gave me. So, I chose not to face it and left far away to live a peaceful life."
"Throughout these years, I've been living happily. Cla... Clarissa, since you're my daughter, I am sure you will always pray for my happiness. In that case, why would you blame me? Isn't it better for us to live this way?"
Sierra's words had deeply shocked Clarissa.
For her whole life, she had never thought that her mother would think this way.
To her, the past was nothing but painful memories. Not only was she not willing to recall them, but she had no nostalgia at all.
Besides, her memories were like a piece of worthless garbage that could be easily disposed of.
At that moment, instead of bitterness, Clarissa felt empty.
It was as if someone had dug a large hole in her heart. Although her heart wasn't bleeding, she felt cold.
A gust of wind blew in from the hole, and the sound of the wind was so loud that it made her shiver.
Absent-mindedly, she nodded and murmured, "So, this is what you are thinking. Alright."
As she spoke, she put down the jade pendant, turned around, and slowly walked out of the room.
Her back, which had always been straight, stumbled down.
On the other hand, Chantel couldn't bear to see this. She caught up with Clarrissa and held her. "What are you doing? Isn't it great to reunite with your mother? Why do you mind if she could remember anything..."
Before she could finish her words, Clarissa interrupted her.
"Aunt Chantel, I'm tired."
Without looking at Chantel, she added calmly, "You can deal with the things here. I'm going back to the company."
After that, she left.
Upon hearing what she said, Chantel was puzzled. She didn't know what Clarissa meant.
With that, she turned back and grimaced. "I am so sorry. Young people like her are usually emotional.  Please don't take it to your heart. Mr. Jenkins, let's talk about our collaboration next time. I shall take my leave."
Immediately, she left.
As for Sierra and Robert, they were still standing at the same spot.
For some reason, when Sierra looked at Clarissa's back as she left disappointedly, she felt heartbroken.
