Chapter 717 Both Of Them Reunited With Each Other

The main problem Clarissa faced now was that the ride was very bumpy.
Each jolt added more pain to her already sore body, and she was about to vomit her dinner out.
She marvelled at Uncle Jasper happily snoring away on the row of seat opposite.
A violent jolt almost caused him to fall off, and Clarissa reached over to steady him.
She returned to her seat when he was firmly in place.
All this while, she was ticking off the minutes in her mind.
There was no clock in the village, neither did she have a watch. She could only guess the time from when the sun rose and set.
Indeed, her situation was almost intolerable, but she had to persevere.
The oxen cart rumbled along for about an hour and a half before it finally stopped.
"Uncle Jasper, we're here!"
The young man called out from outside.
This startled Clarissa as they had arrived, and immediately she wanted to lift the curtains to look outside.
However, there was not a single source of light outside, and she could not see anything.
Uncle Jasper smacked his lips and woke up in a daze from his drunken stupor.
"Ah, we're here?"
"Well, up ahead are the field ridges and your house. The oxen cart can't pass through. You have to get down and walk across."
Uncle Jasper lifted the curtain and jumped out of the oxen cart. He nodded his head in agreement and said, "Okay, Thank you. It's been a long and hard day. Go home now."
The young man nodded and waited for Clarissa to get off. Then, he led the oxen cart in the opposite direction.
Uncle Jasper stretched tiredly and then waved Clarissa to come over.
"Let's go. We're almost home."
Clarissa was lost in her thoughts as she followed silently behind him.
She walked slowly as the paths on the mountain were rough, especially the narrow ones.
Even with Uncle Jasper's torch lighting up the way in front, she could only pick her way slowly through the field ridge.
Uncle Jasper laughed as he watched her walking gingerly behind him. He shouted at her.
"City girls like you are spoiled. Not like the girls here, not only can they run on the field ridges, even the mountain paths are not a problem for them."
She kept quiet and smiled at his sarcasm.
Uncle Jasper was feeling good, swaggering along and humming a song.
They walked on ridge after ridge.
Finally, they arrived at a two-storied stone house.
This was also the only stone house that Clarissa had seen so far.
There was a wide embankment in front of the house, which she figured out as she got closer.
There was a stack of harvested crops piled high beside the embankment. The front door was securely locked, and there was only a faint light from the window on the first floor.
Uncle Jasper banged hard on the door and yelled.
"Honey, I'm back."
Shortly, the door creaked open.
A woman in loose pyjamas and dishevelled hair stood in the doorway.
The woman looked 40 or 50 years of age with a small oil lamp in her hand. She glared at Uncle Jasper and scowled when she noticed Clarissa standing behind him.
"Why are you so late? Who is this?"
"She's that girl's friend. Peter and the others asked me to bring her here."
Uncle Jasper led Clarissa into the house as he replied to the woman.
The air inside the house was cold and damp.
The woman seemed satisfied with his explanation, walked in, and closed the door.
"Oh, I see. No wonder you are so late."
The woman did not appear to be healthy, and her body looked weak. After a long and animated conversation with Uncle Jasper, she turned to face Clarissa and said, "Your friend is in the room behind. Let me take you there."
Clarissa was beside herself with excitement and poured out her gratitude.
"Thank you very much. Sorry to trouble you."
The woman did not reply and led them to the back.
In the centre of the house was a long stone staircase.
They walked up the stairs and arrived at the room upstairs.
"Miss, your friend is here to see you."
The woman yelled out. Immediately, Clarissa heard a loud bang from inside the room.
Following that, a familiar figure rushed out of the room and stopped in front of Clarissa.
"Nora?"
"Clarissa!"
Instantly, both of them cried out in recognition. Clarissa rushed over, and the two of them hugged each other tightly.
Even the normally tough and taciturn Nora almost shed tears of excitement and said.
"I'm fine, I'm so glad that you're fine! I thought I might never see you again."
This incident shook Nora up. When both of them parachuted from the plane at the high altitude, there was no telling who would survive the fall.
No one would understand how she felt when she woke up, and Clarissa was nowhere to be found.
She would not know what to do if something happened to Clarissa.
How was she going to explain to Anderson?
Clarissa was her friend above all, even the mission. She could not allow anything untoward to happen to Clarissa because of her!
This was why although Nora was rescued and was in safe hands, she was depressed.
She desperately wanted to look for Clarissa to make sure Clarissa was safe and sound and not injured.
But, she could not do so.
Of course, her injured leg was a problem. The bigger problem was that these "kind people" decided that the injury was too serious for her to go out.
Until one day, someone brought a message that there was a woman called Maxi who claimed to be her friend.
She saw a glimmer of hope when the messenger asked if she knew this Maxi.
Thinking for a while, she realized that Maxi was a homophone for the code name, Seven, Clarissa used in the F Country language!
It must be Clarissa then, and Nora nodded to mean yes, imploring them to send Clarissa over.
Since she confirmed that Maxi was her friend, Uncle Jasper and the others agreed to her request.
She had wanted to go along, but Uncle Jasper denied her request, saying that her leg injury was too serious to move around.
Nora did not know what to make out of this family and if their concern was genuine or fake.
Anyway, at this time, there was nothing she could say or do.
It was a blessing to reunite with Clarissa.
They were stronger together and could depend on each other no matter what happened.
Now that she knew Clarissa was safe, she felt more at ease.
She gratefully thanked Uncle Jasper and the others sincerely. "Thank you very much."
Uncle Jasper and the woman who was probably his wife said, "It's okay, it's okay. Since you know each other, you can share the room tonight. Don't wander around if there is nothing important. Do you understand?"
Clarissa and Nora hurriedly nodded.
Then, Uncle Jasper and the woman turned around and left.
After they had left, Nora brought Clarissa back to her room.
