Chapter 818 Unable to Refute
The rest of the people also nodded in agreement.
"Yes, she's right."
"Who can get in without the key? We can't be teleporting, right?"
"In that case, the thief shouldn't be one of the people in our kitchen."
Just then, one of the servants who was clear-minded said something.
"What if someone stole the key and secretly put it back?"
Hearing that, the young man who was responsible for the surveillance shook his head.
"It's impossible. I kept the keys close to myself at all times. So, they can't be stolen."
As soon as he finished his words, everyone was confused.
No one stole the key, but the surveillance video was somehow trampled. Was it done by a ghost then?
At the thought of that, some of the servants turned ashen.
Even so, Emmeline didn't believe that ghosts existed in the world.
With a sullen face and cold eyes, she scanned through the faces in front of her.
In the end, her eyes fell on a young girl who had been standing in the corner.
The young girl's name was Maggie, and her age was probably around seventeen years old. In fact, she hadn't reached the legal age to have a job.
However, Emmeline remembered that once, she passed by the garden and overheard the servants said that Maggie had been here for three years.
If it was three years ago, Maggie was only around 14 years old!
Back then, knowing about that, Emmeline was not only surprised that Jara had employed such a young girl to be his servant, but she pitied Maggie as well. Ever since then, she paid a little more attention to Maggie.
At this moment, Maggie was lowering her head, and her head was so low that it was almost buried into her chest.
Besides, she was twisting the hem of her clothes uneasily. Obviously, she was a bundle of nerves.
Seeing that, Emmeline felt suspicious.
"Are you okay?" she suddenly asked.
Instantly, everyone was shocked. They followed Emmeline's gaze and turned to look at Maggie.
As Maggie could sense everyone's gaze, she raised her head, revealing her pale and anxious face.
"I, I am fine..."
Regardless of her answer, her voice was trembling, and it was noticeable that she was guilty.
When Emmeline spotted that, her eyes darkened.
Meanwhile, Kayla also noticed that something was odd.
By just turning her eyes, she had figured out something. Immediately, she pulled Maggie out of the crowd.
"Speak! Did you steal the vodkas?"
Due to anger, Kayla's voice was a little sharp, which frightened Maggie. Terrified, Maggie quivered before she quickly knelt.
"No! I didn't steal it! I found those vodkas in the garden!"
After hearing what she said, everyone was shocked.
Suddenly, something came to Yunne's mind. With a grim expression, she turned around and left.
Emmeline didn't stop her. Not long after, Yunne returned with a few bottles of Vodkas.
At that moment, she looked furious.
"Miss Illington, I've found them!"
After that, she handed those vodkas to Emmeline.
Right away, Emmeline inspected those vodkas and handed them to Lilly.
"Are these the missing vodkas?"
Once Lilly saw those vodkas, she was stunned.
With that, she nodded profusely, "Yes!"
As she spoke, she turned around and looked at Maggie in disbelief. "It's you! How could you do such a silly thing?! Is it worth ruining your reputation for a few bottles of vodka? How could you steal things?"
Due to her young age, Maggie was often taken care of by Lilly and others.
Everyone sympathizes with her. In addition, she was sweet and diligent, so they regarded her as their younger sister.
However, they didn't expect that the well-behaved and lovely Maggie would do something behind Lilly's back and almost cause Lilly to lose her job for a crime. Thus, they were enraged and disappointed.
After hearing Lilly's words, Maggie shook her head profusely as tears streamed down her face.
"I didn't steal, Lilly. I found these vodkas in the garden."
Immediately, Kayla snapped, "Nonsense! The vodkas were in the wine rack. How would they end up in the garden? Are you trying to fool us?!"
After hearing Kayla's words, Maggie didn't know how to explain. All she could do was knelt there and kept crying.
At this time, another servant came forward and said, "Since things have turned out this way, I should be frank."
As she spoke, she glanced at Maggie with a conflicted expression.
Nevertheless, her conscience got the upper hand. With that, she exposed, "We servants are all illiterate, but Maggie is different. She has graduated high school and is well-versed in computers. Besides, she can edit photos, shoot videos, and so on. So, editing a video should be a piece of cake for her."
Once she finished her words, several people around her nodded in agreement.
When Kayla saw this, she became more pleased.
"That says everything. The vodkas are in your hands, and you are the only one who knows video editing. If you are not the culprit, who else? Emmeline and I can't be doing this to frame you on purpose."
As she spoke, she slightly tilted her head and glanced at Emmeline.
It was obvious that she wasn't quite used to be on the same side as Emmeline.
Seeing that, Maggie shook her head in grief. For a while, she could not refute anything except for repeating that she didn't steal it.
However, in the current situation, such refutation was powerless.
As Emmeline saw this scene unfolding before her, the frown on her face deepened.
Intuitively, she felt that Maggie might be telling the truth.
Nevertheless, there was evidence. Hence, she didn't know what to say.
Instead, she could only look at Uncle Poick. In a low voice, she said, "Uncle Poick, I'll leave this matter to you."
At this time, Uncle Poick's face had also darkened. To Emmeline's words, he nodded his head.
Then, he said to Maggie, "Since you're still young and this is your first crime, I won't report you to the police. From today onward, leave here and never appear in this area again. Do you understand?"
Upon finishing his words, Uncle Poick glanced at Jara. It seemed that he was asking for Jara's permission.
Jara didn't say anything, which meant he agreed.
With that, Uncle Poick instructed two servants, "Help her to pack up and send her away."
The two servants obeyed. As for Maggie, she was still sobbing. Seeing that, Lilly was a little heartbroken.
Although Maggie had made a mistake, she was still an adolescent. Perhaps, she had lost her mind at that time.
Having that thought, Lilly walked toward Maggie and reprimanded, "What's the point of crying after making a mistake? Learn your lesson well. When you work in a new family, don't repeat the same mistake, understand?"
While sobbing, Maggie nodded. "Yes, Ms. Lilly."
