Chapter 449 A Face-to-Face Provocation
When Lauren's skin touched the warm water, her whole body was relaxed. She could not help but close her eyes and sigh. It was so comfortable!
After soaking in the hot tub for more than half an hour, she felt hungry.
So she got up, went back to the room, changed her clothes, and made a call to order a meal.
Lunch was soon served.
Lauren had never paid much attention to her diet. As she sat in the living room and was eating, suddenly, the phone rang.
She looked around and found that it was the landline telephone provided by the hotel. She quickly picked it up.
The lady at the front desk said in a sweet voice, "Hello, is that Mr. Green?"
Lauren froze for a moment. She was still holding the cutlery in her hands. Lauren said, "He's not here right now. What's the matter?"
"Hello, here's the thing. There is one Miss Compton downstairs who claims to be Mr. Green's friend. She's looking for him, can you help me pass on the message?"
Lauren was so shocked that her jaw dropped. The cutlery clattered and fell on the table.
After a while.
"Hello? Hello, are you still there?"
Lauren quickly picked up the cutlery and said in a slightly flustered voice.
"Uh, Jameson has gone out and will only come back in the afternoon. Well, let her come straight up!"
"Well, okay!"
The phone was hung up.
After a long while, Lauren was in a state of shock.
Jameson's friend?
Why hadn't she heard that he had a female friend?
After a while, someone knocked on the door.
She quickly put down her cutlery and went to open the door.
Lauren had to admit that she was astonished when she opened the door.
The woman in front of Lauren wore a white lace dress, she had raven waist-length hair. She was thin and had a fair complexion. Although her facial features were not particularly exquisite, she was that gentle and quiet type of beauty, exuding a strong literary and artistic aura.
It was not arrogant and fierce, but it left a good impression on people at first glance.
"Are you Jameson's wife?"
She smiled softly and reached out to her. "Hello, my name is Gilly Compton, and I'm Jameson's friend."
Jameson?
It was the first time that Lauren heard someone address Jameson this way. She was slightly stunned, and then quickly reached out her hand and shook hands with her. She smiled a little awkwardly. "Hello."
Gilly looked into the room with her head tilted to one side and asked, "Where is Jameson?"
"He went out for a business luncheon and won't be back until afternoon."
Lauren suddenly remembered that the two of them were still standing at the door. She quickly moved a side and let her enter the room. Lauren smiled and said, "Come in and sit for a while."
Gilly nodded and went into the room.
It was a little messy in the room. The towel she used after she finished bathing in the hot tub, and Jameson's slippers that she had accidentally kicked were scattered across the room. On the table, there was also the takeout that Lauren had half-eaten.
Lauren felt a little embarrassed when she saw Gilly scanned the room.
Lauren quickly asked, "Have you taken your lunch? If not, do you need me to order a meal for you?"
Gilly shook her head and smiled gently. "No need. Thank you!"
After a pause, Gilly added, "I'm not in good health, and I'm not allowed to eat anything outside."
Lauren's face suddenly froze.
Looking at the simple dishes on the table, she felt a little uncomfortable for no reason.
However, Gilly seemed to be unaware of it. She paced back and forth in the room, touching the clothes on the shelf and flipping over the books on the desk, making herself at home.
Lauren frowned and leaned against the door. Her eyes were getting colder.
She didn't understand what was Gilly up to. Gilly clearly knew the relationship between her and Jameson, yet she still put on a show like this.
What did she mean? Was she trying to force Lauren out?
After a while, Lauren could not hold it in anymore. She cleared her throat by coughing.
"Um... Do you want to call him first?"
Lauren supposed that Jameson would not like the idea of people barging into his room for sight-seeing.
Gilly raised her head and smiled gently at her.
"No, Jameson didn't like to be disturbed when he was working."
Lauren was stunned.
For a second, she thought Gilly and Jameson were the married couple.
But after all, she didn't say anything overtly. If Lauren pointed this out to her, she would seem to be too narrow-minded.
Lauren looked at her angrily and felt a burst of annoyance in his heart. Just when she was about to turn around and leave, she was suddenly stopped by Gilly.
"I heard that you came from Visstead?"
Lauren turned around and looked at her.
Gilly smiled. Her smile had always been gentle and harmless. Maybe she was really not in good health, her skin was abnormally pale.
She said softly, "I just happened to come back from Visstead last week, and I have bought some specialty from Visstead. Do you want it?"
Lauren pursed her lips.
"It's alright. We have been eating those since we were kids. You can keep them for yourself since you hardly ever go there."
Her tone was a little cold and distant.
However, Gilly didn't seem to care. She said, "Don't stand on ceremony. You're Jameson's wife, and he's my friend, so you're also my friend. There's no need to regard yourself as an outsider. I'll ask someone to send some to you tomorrow."
Lauren silently twitched the corner of her mouth and didn't say no more.
The room fell into silence.
After Gilly wandered around in the bedroom, she looked at the time with some regret on her face.
After thinking for a bit, she suddenly asked, "Jameson hasn't returned yet. Are you going to stay in the room and wait for him?"
Lauren nodded.
But she never had planned to wait for Jameson in the room, but somehow, she didn't want to reveal to Gilly her real thoughts.
Gilly suddenly smiled. "How about this? I heard that there is an art exhibition in the resort. It's noon now, so there should be very few people there. Would you like to go with me to have a look?"
An art exhibition?
Lauren was not interested, so she turned her down directly.
"No, I'm not interested in this."
Gilly was not disappointed. She said, "All right! In fact, I came here today because I heard that Jameson is here. I just want to see him, but since he's not here..."
She smiled helplessly. "Then I'll have to go first."
A smile finally appeared on Lauren's face. She narrowed her eyes and said, "Alright, take care."
Gilly walked to the door and suddenly stopped in her tracks. Finally, she took out an invitation card and handed it to Lauren.
"This is an invitation card to a party for the artists. Could you please pass this invitation card to Jameson for me?"
Lauren took it over and saw a few cursive handwriting written on it. They seemed to be scrawled and barely legible, but she had to admit that it looked very artistic.
She nodded and said, "Okay, no problem."
"Thank you then."
Watching Gilly leave, Lauren closed the door and finally let out a sigh of relief.
She threw the invitation card on the table and found that the food was cold. She lost the appetite to eat and cleaned it up before going back to the room to rest.
She slept until afternoon.
Until Jameson came back.
Lauren had always been a light sleeper. As soon as the door of the outer room clicked slightly, she was startled and jolted awake.
