Chapter 528 Talking Behind Her Back
But Sophia didn't expect to hear the heated discussion from the living room as soon as she entered the house.
"Dad, look at what time it is now. I don't think she's coming back today."
"That's right. Collins, you're spoiling her too much. You're not doing her any good. Tell me, how is she going to get married in the future if she behaves like this?"
"Exactly! A person with no self-respect like her would only bring shame to all of us in the future. It's so embarrassing!"
"Alas! Why don't you send someone to look for her?"
Sophia was completely speechless.
Sophia stood at the door, listening to their demeaning discussions inside, and her lips trembled with anger.
What was wrong with her current behavior? Why would it affect her marriage?
What had she done to put the whole family to shame?
Sophia was so angry that her face turned pale. The maid, Janie, who just came out from the kitchen, spotted her. She asked in surprise, "Miss Sophia?"
The discussion in the living room suddenly stopped.
Sophia pursed her lips tight and walked into the living room. She glanced at the people in the living room one by one, including Amanda, Bell, Joel, Yelena, and Collin, who was sitting on the sofa.
Everyone was stunned for a moment when they saw her. But soon after, they all sneered at her.
"Yo! Sophia, you're back? I thought you wouldn't be coming back tonight!"
Amanda was the first to speak. Her tone of voice was thick with sarcasm.
Sophia clenched his fists and looked at her disgusting face. She wanted to dash forward and tear her apart but she still held it back. She sneered and said, "Does it have anything to do with you if I don't come back?"
Sophia was basically saying that this was her home. It was none of her business whether she came back home or not.
Amanda snorted. "Of course it has nothing to do with me. I'm just worried on behalf of Collin."
Sophia glanced at Collin.
There was also a slight anger on Collin's face, but unlike others, he showed no sign of gloating.
Sophia sighed softly in her heart. She walked over, handed her bag to Janie, and sat down on the sofa. She said in a proud manner, "Apparently, Yelena is non-existent. My father actually needs an outsider to worry for him."
Once they heard that, Amanda and Yelena's faces changed at the same time.
Amanda's husband died early. Over the years, she had raised Joel by herself. It was not easy, as she did not have the ability to support the family. So in addition to the legacy left by her husband, for the sake of living, she had done some dubious stuff, earning a bad name for herself.
But normally, everyone would not mention this in front of her. After all, it would be too offensive to reveal one's dark past.
But Sophia couldn't be bothered to care about that. Amanda had provoked her time and time again. Was there any need for her to give her face?
Collin said angrily, "Sophia, how dare you talk to Amanda like this? She is your elder!"
"I don't have an elder who gossips behind my back!"
"How dare you!"
"Enough!" Joel suddenly stood up. His face was livid, as he stared at Sophia coldly.
"Sophia, who are you referring to? Or are you saying that what we said is not the truth? Since you have the guts to do it, why are you afraid that others will talk about it?"
"Ha!"
Sophia laughed out of extreme anger and was about to speak. At this moment, Bell's gaze swept over her heck. Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she rushed forward, pulling her collar open.
Immediately, they could see that there were a few hickeys on her neck.
"What are you doing?"
Sophia was both anxious and angry at the same time. She wanted to yank Bell's hand away, but it was too late. Everyone could see the hickeys on her neck.
Amanda and Joel looked at Sophia with disdain. Even Yelena didn't show it on her face, but inwardly, she snorted coldly.
Collin's face turned livid with rage!
As soon as Sophia saw everyone's face, she had a bad feeling about it. Just as she was about to explain when Collin suddenly slapped her in the face.
Sophia was stunned!
She looked at Collin in a daze. Although her father had always had some misunderstanding about her these years, he had never lay a finger on her.
She opened her mouth and said, "Dad."
"Don't call me Dad! I don't have such a shameless daughter like you!"
Collin was so angry that his body was shaking. Yelena hurriedly came up to comfort him. "Okay. If Sophia is not being sensible, just talk to her about it. There's no need to hit her."
There was a flash of schadenfreude in her eyes.
Sophia caught a glimpse of that too as she felt a stabbing pain in her heart. She wanted to tell Collins that things were not what they thought. She didn't do that kind of thing at all.
Nevertheless, words just stuck in her throat.
Because she knew that even if she said so, no one would believe her!
Sophia's eyes were red, and her eyes were brimming with tears, but she still tried to hold them back.
She sobbed hard and said in a low voice, "I heard everything you said just now. So Dad, do you also think that I have become someone else's mistress?"
Collin snorted, and he didn't even bother to say anything to her.
A hint of sadness flashed across Sophia's eyes. She reached out and took out the marriage certificate from her bag and threw it to him. "Take a look for yourself!"
After that, she turned around and strode outside.
......
Sophia walked quickly. After a long time, she began to run. The night breeze blew away the tears on her face, hurting her skin.
Still, she did not stop. Sophia ran as hard as she could, as if she could vent all the grievances she had suffered.
She didn't stop until she reached the beach. She bent over and put her hands on her knees, panting heavily. Her little face was a little red because of running and the tip of her nose was red because of the cold.
She suddenly opened her mouth and screamed at the top of her lungs at the sea.
"Ah— !"
"Ah— !"
"Ah— !"
......
There were only a few people on the beach on autumn night. After screaming a few times, there were two or three passers-by who noticed her and threw her strange looks, but Sophia pretended as though she did not see them.
She needed to vent her anger. She was on the verge of breaking down.
Why was that so?
Why did those people treat her like this?
They were her closest relatives, weren't they?
Even though they knew that it was not true, why did they still talk behind her back?
Sophia felt the urge to cry. At this time, her tears finally streamed down her cheeks. She covered her face and lied on the soft sand feebly. She cried so hard that the corners of her eyes twitched and her whole body trembled.
She still remembered that two years ago, just like now, how they had pointed at her nose and scolded her.
"B*tch! Shameless!"
She endured it! Because she couldn't come up with an excuse.
When she bumped into Bell and Joel sleeping together and Bell held Joel's arm to provoke her, she endured it!
Because such a sc*mbag was not worthy of her love!
However, Collin, her father was the one who caused her the most pain!
She was his own daughter! Why was he never willing to believe her?
He was always like this—whether it was two years ago, at the wedding or now!
