Chapter 940 Deliberately Making Things Difficult

With a walking stick, an elderly man with white hair appeared in front of them.
He was nearly 90 years old at the time. He was already very old, even if he was in superb health. He had a hunchback and deep wrinkles all over his face. However, when he looked at them, his eyes were sharp.
"What's up? What's the matter?"
The local explained immediately, "Mr. Gill, these are the nobles from the city. They've come to see you for something. I'll leave now."
After that, he bolted away like thunder.
Mr. Gill was unconcerned. He only squinted his eyes and glanced at them.
"Who are you? What can I do for you?"
Anderson took a step forward and said gently, "Mr. Gill, I'm Matteo's grandson. I believe she has informed you that we'll visit you today."
Mr. Gill frowned at once.
After a long while, he sneered, "Got it. You're here for the thing, correct? Alright, come in."
Although he let them in, they could tell he wasn't happy, and his tone was not pleasant.
They walked into the villa, surreptitiously exchanging glances.
Clarissa walked behind them and closed the door. Then she followed Mr. Gill into the living room.
"I learned about the situation from your grandmother. I know you came for the jade, but it is not authentic jade. Well, I'm well aware of all the rumors circulating outside. It is said that it can bring the dead back to life and live forever."
Speaking of this, he snorted mockingly.
"Really? Immortal? It really can deceive young people like you all. But when you get to my age, you will realize that all is fake. I've seen all kinds of rare treasures in this world, but none of them actually works. It's all thought up by humans because of their greed."
Clarissa echoed in a hurry.
"Mr. Gill, you are so wise. I can tell you're not from the secular world and that you're a unique individual just by listening to you speak."
With a sneer, Mr. Gill turned to look at her.
"Don't even think of flattering me, little girl. Do you think I'll reward you just by saying something nice?"
Clarissa's face instantly went stiff.
On the other hand, Jara remained calm. He then said solemnly, "Since you know why we're here, I won't beat around the bush. Why don't you tell us how we can get it from you?"
However, Mr. Gill shook his head and waved his hand.
"No way."
"Why?"
Clarissa's expression shifted, so did Emmeline.
All of them frowned at the same time.
Anderson explained, "Mr. Gill, it is useless to you anyway. Well, we need it to save lives. I hope you'll reconsider it because of your friendship with grandma."
Looking at him with a smirk, Mr. Gill sat down on an old wooden chair.
"What do you mean by that? I know your grandma, but that was when we were young. We haven't seen each other for many years. She is now the matriarch of the Jordan Family. She is noble, whilst I am nothing. How dare I claim to be on the same level as her?
As for you guys, what does your life have to do with me? Why should I bother to save you? A large number of people pass away every day. Won't I die of exhaustion if everyone relies on me to rescue them?"
He spoke in a tone of schadenfreude.
It seemed that this matter made him excited since it was related to Emmeline's life.
Jara's face darkened as soon as he heard this.
If it hadn't been for Emmeline who pulled him from the side, he would have lifted the table and snatched things away immediately.
He took a deep breath and only managed to suppress the anger in his chest after a long while. In a deep voice, he added, "Mr. Gill, you don't have to say such sarcastic words. You can state your requests if you have any. I will never reject if it's doable."
Anderson also echoed, "I'm also willing to agree to one condition of yours, Mr. Gill. As long as it's within my ability, I will not reject it."
Mr. Gill peered at them before turning his attention to Clarissa and Emmeline.
"What about you guys?"
Clarissa was stunned.
For a moment, Emmeline was also startled, and they exchanged glances. Then, Clarissa said with a friendly smile, "Of course, we will do as you say. Tell us if you have any requests. We shall give it our all."
Touching the beard on his chin, Mr. Gill seemed to be satisfied with her attitude.
He pondered it for a bit before responding, "So, I still have a lot of laundries to do. You ladies seemed to be diligent. Why don't you first wash them for me?"
All four of them were taken aback. They never expected him to make such a request.
Upon hearing this, Anderson and Jara didn't appear to be in the best mood. After all, they were their wives. They wouldn't even let their wives wash their clothes. So how could they wash other people's clothes now?
However, they had no time to object before Clarissa and Emmeline interrupted them.
"Sure, no problem. We'll do it now."
With these words, they headed hand in hand to Mr. Gill's backyard under his guidance.
Clarissa had assumed that an old man like him would not have many clothes. Besides, washing the clothes wasn't difficult. She only had to churn them in the washing machine and dry them after they were done.
This was nothing at all for Emmeline's condition.
However, when they arrived in the backyard, they found that they were mistaken!
There were a lot of them!
The garments piled up in the backyard probably weighed about 20 pounds. The clothes were filthy as if he had worn them for months. In addition, they could smell the sour odor of the garments from a distance.
The few of them couldn't help but frown. Mr. Gill pointed at the pile of clothes and said, "Here you go. Finish them before sunset today."
Anderson and Jara's expressions sank even more. Clarissa blurted out, "It's no problem. Where's the washing machine?"
Mr. Gill's eyes widened as if he heard a joke. All of a sudden, he let out a mocking laugh.
"A washing machine? Are you kidding me, girl? There's no such thing in the countryside. Besides, my clothes are made of the most precious cloth. Can you afford them if the washing machine broke them?"
Clarissa's expression soon changed.
"Are you saying that we will wash it with our bare hands?"
"Of course! If not, are you going to wash them with your feet?"
Seeing this, Anderson couldn't stop himself from opening his mouth, but Clarissa stopped him.
She took a deep breath and put on a stiff smile. "No problem. Don't worry. We'll wash it before the sun sets."
When Mr. Gill saw her good attitude, he nodded his head in approval. He then turned to face Jara and Anderson.
