Chapter 561 For The Money

After the dance, Evelyn was a little out of breath. Marty took her to the lounge area and said in a low voice, "Sit for a while. I need to deal with something first."
Evelyn nodded obediently.
All of this was witnessed by Melodie, who was not far away.
She also wore a lavender chiffon gown tonight, Marty's favorite color.
In the past, when the two were still together, Marty had said she looked elegant and captivating like a blooming Crape Myrtle flower in that dress.
Although she did not know whether he was telling the truth or not, Melodie would rather believe it was true.
Before Marty and Evelyn had been together, indeed, Marty had a lot of other women before.
However, most of his relationships were short-lived. Among them, Melodie kept the longest relationship with him.
Therefore, everyone thought Melodie was his official girlfriend, no matter how many women he had outside.
Moreover, Melodie's family background was not bad. Although she was not from one of the four great families, she was still somewhat famous among the female socialites in Flaucford.
As a popular female star, she was naturally beautiful. For so many years, she had always been confident in her looks.
But at this moment, crazed with jealousy, Melodie was unable to breathe when she saw Evelyn wallowing Marty's love and care easily.
At some point, Lila Thomes, her manager, stood behind her, staring coldly at Evelyn in the lounge area.
She sneered and said, "She's just a low-born vixen. How dare she be so arrogant?"
Melodie turned her head to look at her. Hee beautiful eyes were a little red. "Lila, is it true that Marty doesn't want me anymore?"
"No, you two have been together for so long before. Who the hell is she? She's just a buffoon. You know... maybe he needed a change of taste. He will get tired of her soon and return to your side."
"But... I'm still worried."
Melodie shook her head while tears streamed down her face. Her body trembled because of sadness, which made her look piteous.
"You have no idea. Since that day, his attitude towards me has always been so cold. I always feel that I have completely lost a place in his heart."
Lila frowned and looked around. After she was sure that no one was paying attention to them, she asked in a low voice, "Didn't you buy off Rita last time to do something on set? Why did it fail in the end? You even made Mr. Blaine a hero to save the damsel in distress. What a bummer."
When it came to this, Melodie could not help but bite her lips.
After a while, she said, "Rita can't do anything right. Marty had already found out the truth. Fortunately, I offered her a lot of hush money, so she didn't expose me."
After a pause, she said, "But I won't let it go so easily."
Seeing her like this, Lila didn't want to say anything more. She just looked at her deeply and said, "What can you do?"
Melodie shook her head. "I don't know yet."
Lila smiled and said, "I have a piece of news that I just got recently. Are you interested?"
Upon hearing her words, Melodie raised her head to look at her in shock. "What news?"
Lila leaned in and whispered a few words in her ears.
An expression of disbelief flashed across Melodie's face, followed by a tremor of excitement.
"Are you telling the truth?"
Lila nodded and said, "Yes, it is true. When I received the news, I had sent someone to verify it. And it's the truth. Her adoptive father is a gambler, and I heard he even does drugs. Most of the money she has made these years has been hollowed out by his adoptive father. She also has a mother who has heart disease staying in the hospital. I think the reason why she is with Mr. Blaine is because of money."
Upon hearing the news, Melodie was so excited that her hands were trembling.
"Because of money... Since it's for money, then it should be easy to deal with it."
Lila also nodded. She looked over in Evelyn's direction again before she turned around to pat Melodie on the shoulder.
"Anyway, I have already told you the news. It depends on yourself on how you will deal with it. If you couldn't stand seeing them now, you'd better go back first. Don't make it hard for yourself."
Melodie nodded. "Well, I know."
Evelyn waited for an entire hour. Halfway through, a man was coming to strike up a conversation with her. She was feeling bored, so she chatted with him.
Everyone on this occasion was slick. When they saw her dancing with Marty, they knew her identity tonight. Seeing that she was amused, he quickly said, "It's my pleasure to meet you today. I hope you can put in a good word for me in front of Mr. Blaine."
While talking, he handed a cheque to her.
Evelyn blinked her beautiful eyes and said with a smile, "Mr. Flynn, you flatter me too much. I'm just an ordinary friend of Mr. Blaine. I'm afraid my hands are tied."
The man surnamed Flynn was a shrewd person. Upon hearing her words, he did not press further. He took back his cheque and raised his glass to her. "It doesn't matter. I am still very happy to know a talented and beautiful person like Miss Hussain."
When Marty came out, he happened to see this scene. Evelyn was talking and laughing, and her beautiful eyes were as bright as the stars under the lights. She was still dazzling as always, albeit sitting in a secluded place, making everyone in the hall pale in comparison.
Marty walked over and wrapped his arms around Evelyn's waist. Evelyn smiled at him and said, "You're back."
His heart swelled at the sight of her glistening eyes. He then made a sound of agreement.
"Mr. Blaine, my surname is Flynn. I've heard a lot about you. It's my honor to see you here."
Mr. Flynn greeted him warmly. Evelyn held Marty's arm and said with a smile, "Mr. Flynn is a humorous person. I got bored waiting for you. Fortunately, he talked to me to relieve boredom."
Marty lowered his head slightly and saw a mischievous glint flashing across Evelyn's eyes.
He chuckled and stroked her head. "Sorry, I won't let you wait so long next time."
His tone of voice was endearing and extremely gentle.
Stunned, Evelyn felt her heart skip a beat.
Did Marty... do it on purpose?
She had to admit that although Marty appeared to be casual and careless normally, once he got serious, he would turn into a completely different person.
He was so charming.
At this time, Marty was already chatting with Mr. Flynn. They clinked their glasses and said with a smile, "Thank you for taking care of Evelyn for me. When you are free, you can visit the Blaine Group more often. Since we're friends, there's no need to be so polite."
Mr. Flynn's eyes lit up. He was both surprised and delighted. "Thank you, Mr. Blaine. I'll definitely come."
With his qualifications, it was impossible for him to touch base with Blaine Group. However, with Marty's words, it would be much easier for him to do so because he was certain that a person of Marty's status would definitely keep his word.
