Chapter 700 Strike A Deal With Him
Thinking of this, Nora felt even more distressed.
Seeing Clarissa coming out of the car, Nora dashed to meet her.
Nora had a towel and water ready in her hand. She then asked, somewhat concerned, "Clarissa, how are you doing? Are you tired?"
Clarissa glanced at Nora and shook her head with a smile. "I'm fine."
Even though she was exhausted, psychological comfort might sometimes help to reduce the physical discomfort.
She did feel a little uneasy at the beginning of her practice.
However, after four hours of practice, she felt much better. Although she had not returned to her prior peak position, she had made significant improvements.
She believed that as long as she worked hard for the following two days, she would be able to return to her finest form.
Thinking about this, Clarissa asked, "What time is it now?"
Nora glanced at her watch. "It's exactly twelve o'clock."
Clarissa nodded. "It's late. Let's go back."
"Alright."
They were ready to leave after packing their belongings and returning the car to the person in charge.
The person in charge watched Clarissa's practice. He was really taken aback at this point.
He gaped at Clarissa in front of him, his mouth so wide that an egg might fit within.
"What's your... what's your name? Have I seen you race before?"
Clarissa gently smiled and hesitated for a moment, but didn't say her previous code name.
Then, she responded, "My name is Clarissa Chapman."
Seven was her code name when she was a part of Lost Vanguard. In the event of a non-match, she now preferred to use her real name.
She was generous and easygoing, which made people feel at ease around her.
Upon hearing this, the staff frowned and thought about it for a moment.
"I don't recall seeing this name in any of the major competitions."
He assumed she was a newbie with great talent, so he didn't think much of it.
Then, he gave Clarissa a thumbs up and praised her, "You are fantastic! If you enter the competition, you will surely win the championship."
"Thank you for your kind words," Clarissa remarked with a smile.
Only then did they leave.
It was almost one o'clock when they returned to the hotel.
Clarissa's physical strength had been depleted after training for so long that night, and she was hungry.
Nora ordered a light delivery for them to enjoy as a midnight snack.
Later, Clarissa went to take a shower once she finished her meal. It was exactly two o'clock when she fell asleep.
The jet lag, along with the high-intensity, intensive practice, nearly depleted all of her strength.
But, for the time being, she was laying on the bed, unable to sleep.
She took out her phone and looked at it. Anderson had texted her at eight o'clock in the evening, asking if she had eaten and what she was doing.
It was not a good idea to respond much because she was about to drive. She just replied that she had eaten and was outdoors with Nora.
Perhaps Anderson was afraid of disturbing her, so he only replied with one remark, "Stay safe," and then sent no more messages.
She then looked through the photo gallery.
In the past few years, she and Anderson had two kids and had taken a lot of photos together.
The photo album was almost full.
The family was huddled together, looking warm and content.
She couldn't help raising the corner of her mouth.
At this moment, a text message suddenly popped up, interrupting her train of thought.
She took a look and saw it was a message from Jara.
Her countenance changed in an instant, and she clicked on the text message, only to discover that it had information about the candidates of the competition.
Understanding the opponent was sometimes particularly important in a competition.
Knowing their styles and competition habits would sometimes become the key to victory.
As the saying goes, "Know your enemy and yourself, and you will never be defeated."
Clarissa took a glance at them and noticed two contestants she recognized.
When she was still in the racing field, they had always lost to her and had no hope of turning over.
They did not win the championships multiple times in a row until she resigned from auto racing after returning to Ascijan.
The other players were all new. She had seen them in the game but never in real life.
But she was nonetheless familiar with these people's overall styles.
Thinking about it in her mind, Clarissa felt that there was not much of a problem this time. After some deliberation, she dialed Jara's number.
At this time, it was already morning in Ascijan.
Jara was having breakfast at home.
He didn't have the habit of sleeping early. However, he would always wake up before ten in the morning. As a result, he was sitting at the dining table, eating breakfast bought from outside by his assistant.
Seeing the call from Clarissa, he raised his eyebrows and seemed to be a little surprised.
A smile appeared on his lips, and he answered the call.
"Maxi, are you missing me so much that you can't sleep?"
Clarissa couldn't help but roll her eyes as she heard his frivolous words just as the call went through.
She didn't want to beat around the bush, so she went straight to the point and asked, "Can I ask you a question?"
Jara gulped a mouthful of milk slowly and inquired, "What's the matter?"
"When you saved me from the sea nine years ago, you mentioned there was a flame tattoo on the necks of those who had harmed me. Is that true?"
Jara's finger, which was gripping the cup, paused slightly.
He chuckled as a flash of dark light flashed through his eyes. "What made you think of this?"
"Jara, I want to find those people. I want to know who wanted to kill me at that time, and what happened during the few months that I lost my memory. Can you tell me everything you know since I helped you this time?"
For a moment, Jara was silent.
His delicate fingers gently rubbed the edge of the cup as his gaze was drawn in that direction.
"Maxi, it's all in the past. Why do you want to seek the truth when you're already happy? Are those things really so important?"
Clarissa pursed her lips.
She knew that Jara was not someone who would easily spill the tea.
On the surface, he appeared to be a wanderer without any dignity; but in fact, he was profound and unfathomable.
Without a certain amount of bargaining chips, it would be almost impossible to pry open his mouth.
Thinking of this, she lowered her eyes slightly and suddenly said, "Why do you want to be the champion of this competition?"
"Are you trying to strike a deal with me now?" Jara chuckled.
Clarissa paused for a moment.
After all, it was he who had taught her. In front of him, she could be deemed to have nothing to hide.
She sighed, not wanting to quarrel. "Yeah, I want to make a deal with you. I don't have any other bargaining chip, and the competition is all I have. Well, I have no idea how important this competition is to you. I only know that the 20% bonus rate isn't all that crucial to me. After all, you know, I'm not short of money now."
