Chapter 764 Tit for Tat
The mountain road was tough.
As there were not many visitors here, the road was not well-maintained. All of the paths were made of bluestone, and there were built many years ago.
Perhaps because of the rain two days before, the steps were damped.
On the edge of the steps, there were green mosses. If they were not careful enough and stepped on the mosses, they would easily slip.
Therefore, Emmeline walked steadily while watching out her steps.
Meanwhile, Jara was walking rapidly as if he was not troubled by the steep steps.
As Emmeline was walking behind him, she could see his huge back the moment she looked up.
Under the golden sunset, his lonely and desolate back blended well with the boundless forests, which gave off a taste of wilderness.
Looking at his back, she pressed her lips together. Then, she quickened her pace to catch up with him.
About half an hour later, when it was almost 5 o'clock, they arrived at the cemetery.
The cemetery was built halfway up the mountain. From a distance, they could see a granite arch standing tall and upright.
It was like a majestic burly man guarding the dead souls buried inside.
At once, Emmeline's eyes darkened.
Later, when Jara arrived at the entrance of the cemetery, he stopped.
Emmeline also stopped three steps behind him. Looking up at the words carved on the arch, she sneered.
"Gee, are you really that infamous cold-hearted Mr. Holland? I can't believe you are so loyal that you would build such a big cemetery for your buddies. Seriously? Are you expecting people to worship them as heroes in hundred years to come?"
As soon as she finished her words, Jara's face darkened.
Without warning, her body was being pinned on the stone pillar, and she could feel a sharp pain from her back.
When she was in prison, even though she was not being bullied, she still had to face some suffering.
For example, she had hurt her waist while doing labor work. As she had bent her waist for an extended period of time, she got lumbar disk disease.
So this time, when her back was pressed against the hard stone, there was a knife-like pain, and her brows bitterly drew together.
Choking her neck, Jara gritted his teeth and glowered, "Do you really think that I won't kill you?"
He strangled Emmeline so hard that she couldn't breathe, and her face turned red.
However, she still forced a smile by using the last bit of her strength.
With an indifferent expression, she looked at him provocatively.
Then, she derided.
"Why don't you kill me now? You not only can avenge your buddies, but they will have a new companion too."
"You wr*nch!"
Jara growled.
Enraged, he tightened his grip as if he was going to break her neck.
With that, Emmeline couldn't say a word. Soon, as she was suffocating, she began to experience dizziness.
Powerlessly, she looked at Jara, then into his red eyes. Due to pain and hatred, he screwed up his handsome face, and he no longer had his usual heroic spirit.
Seeing that, she suddenly felt that her eyes were wet, and tears ran down her cheeks as if a dagger had pierced through her heart.
Nonchalantly, she smiled.
Oh dear, why wouldn't she learn her lesson well?
The moment he was in a slight agony, she would be heartbroken. Nonetheless, wasn't she here for revenge?
Didn't she promise herself that she would make him pay for all the misery she suffered for the past four years?
Did she forget about that?
At that moment, she didn't speak, nor could she speak. On the other hand, Jara continued to strangle her neck before he took a few deep breaths and let go of her.
Once Emmeline was free from his hands, she took a few steps back, bent down, and began to cough violently.
Jara stood there and looked at her coldly.
After coughing for a while, she finally recovered. Then, she straightened up and looked at him with a smirk.
"You seem like you are so determined to kill me. Is that all you've got?"
Hearing that, Jara glared at her icily as if he was going to freeze her to death.
For a split second, countless love and hatred had surged his heart, and he felt like venting it out.
However, in the end, he didn't. Instead, he scoffed.
Step by step, he strode forward and approached her. After that, he pinched her chin hard and lifted her head.
Then, he snickered.
"Don't be naive! Do you really think that your life can compare with theirs? You look too highly upon yourself."
When she heard what he said, her heart throbbed with pain.
However, the more pain she felt in her heart, the deeper the smile on her face seemed to be.
Swiftly, she grabbed his hand, moved her neck, looked at him smilingly. "What are you going to do then?"
Upon hearing Emmeline's words, Jara sneered.
At this moment, he had regained his composure. It was as if his earlier self-detonation and rage had nothing to do with him.
With his fingers, he gently stroked her fair and tender cheeks. Then, he insinuated, "I will let you live and slowly atone for your sins, and of course, after that, you are free to take your own life. For now, your life belongs to me, and I will treat you as I wish. Got it?"
Finally, Emmeline's smile hardened.
Looking at Jara, she retorted with a stiff smile.
"Mr. Holland, please don't think too highly of yourself. Do you really think that you could treat me as you please, like how you did four years ago? I am no longer my old self."
"Oh, really?"
"Of course."
Trying to be the same level as him, she straightened her neck and stood straight. Even so, it seemed to be useless as he was too tall.
Regardless of that, her aura was strong enough to match against him.
With the corner of her lips slightly raised, she sneered, "I thought you were a gentleman, so I followed you with all my heart. But later, I realize that you're just a coward who doesn't dare to face the truth. How dare you think of controlling me? Do you really think that you're a saint that owns the world?"
Instantly, a cloud came over Jara's face.
After a while, he suddenly scoffed and neared her. With his thin lips next to her ears, he whispered, "Whether I am a man or not, I believe you know the best. After all, you are the one who spent those days and nights with me four years ago, remember? Should I help you recall it again?"
