Chapter 653 Filial Piety

"If it weren't for him risking his life to protect my father, he would not be able to enjoy his happy life in the south right now, so the Hussain family's background is not bad. Do you understand?"
It was not until then that Evelyn finally realized Buckley was trying to raise her status.
Forcing a smile, she lowered her head. "I see."
But, as Buckley looked at her, he sighed softly.
After all, she was still a child who had lost her father. No matter how proud she was, sometimes she had to hide it.
Without the backbone of the family, she couldn't act recklessly, because if she was not careful, she would lose everything.
Hence, he didn't continue to speak as he turned around and led them to the dining room.
At the moment, the servants had already prepared a lavish dinner in the dining room.
Although Charlotte didn't like Evelyn, she didn't want to ruin the rare reunion atmosphere today.
Therefore, she was too ordering the servants to arrange the cutlery and so on.
It was not until they came in that her gaze swept over Evelyn, then she smiled lightly.
"Miss Hussain, if you don't mind, can you sit on my side?"
As soon as she finished her words, everyone was stunned.
The dining table at the Blaine family was in a rectangular shape with a marble top.
Since Mr. Nile wasn't around, naturally, Charlotte and Buckley would be sitting at the top left and right corner.
And as Roland wasn't around, Marty would be sitting right next to Buckley.
Logically speaking, as Marty's wife, she should have sat with him.
Which was to Marty's right-hand side.
However, Charlotte asked Evelyn to sit on her side. But her niece, Winry, was already sat next to her.
In that case, Evelyn would be sitting to Winry's left-hand side, which was also the most inferior position in the family.
Everyone's expression couldn't help but changed.
Subconsciously, Winry wanted to stand up and said, "Evelyn, then you should sit here..."
However, before she could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by Charlotte.
Looking up at Winry, she said, "What are you doing? You finally have a chance to eat with me, and you will be returning to the South Udrein in two days. Can't you sit next to me for a while?"
Then, she looked up at Evelyn with a smile and said, "I heard that Miss Hussain has always been considerate. When your mother was still in Flaucford, she was an expert at serving others."
"Speaking of which, she was the one who took care of me when I gave birth to Marty. Winry would only visit Flaucford once in every few years, With a childish temper, she always wouldn't eat properly. Can you please sit here to take care of her? You don't mind, do you?"
After Evelyn heard her words, her face darkened.
Under the table, she clenched her fingers tightly together.
Everyone would have understood the meaning behind her words. Obviously, Charlotte was trying to order her around like a nanny.
It didn't matter if she sat over there, but she was afraid that Charlotte would still make things difficult for her even if she did as she wished.
Moreover, in front of everyone, she deliberately mentioned that Evelyn's mother had taken care of her when she was having her confinement.
In other words, she was belittling the value of her family, accusing her family of nothing more but servants, and that she not worthy of being with Marty.
Hearing that, Evelyn was so angry that she was trembling slightly.
Bam! Suddenly, a sound was heard.
It was Marty who smacked his fork on the table.
Immediately, Buckley knitted his brows as he noticed Marty's change of expression, and he warned. "Marty, we'll talk after dinner!"
Hearing that, Marty sneered.
Without looking at Charlotte, he directly looked at Winry and asked with a gloomy face, "Do you need someone to serve you when you eat?"
Shocked by this sudden change, Winry shook her head quickly.
"No, there's no need."
Turning his head, Marty looked at Charlotte. "Mom, do you need someone to serve you when you're eating?"
Hearing that, Charlotte was stunned.
Seeing Marty's love for Evelyn, she smiled coldly.
"What's wrong? I am at home, and I'm looking for someone to serve me. Is there a problem?"
Suddenly, Marty's expression changed, and he smiled.
However, that was not a genuine smile.
Standing up, he said, "Of course, There's no problem in finding someone to serve you. In that case, as your son, I should be serving you, and not someone else. After all, you have raised me for so many years. Shouldn't I fulfill my filial duty?"
As he said that, he walked over.
Then, he said to Winry, who was still confused at the moment, "Winry, go and sit with Evelyn. I'll sit here."
Stunned, Winry stood up, taking a glance at Evelyn, and then at Buckley.
In the end, she picked up her plate and cutlery and switched over to Marty's seat.
That way, Evelyn and Winry were sat together, while Charlotte and Marty sat together.
Seeing that, Charlotte was so angry that her expression changed.
But Marty seemed to be unaware of it. He took some vegetables and placed them on her plate with a smile, then said softly, "Mom, eat more vegetables. I heard that these are good for your health and anti-aging. You will become more beautiful if you eat it."
Initially, Charlotte thought that even if she didn't target Evelyn, she had to teach her a lesson and let her know that it was not easy to become one of Blaine's family.
It was not a place where she could just come here as she wished.
However, she didn't expect that Marty would make things difficult for her, so now she was embarrassed.
Now, she was so angry that she no longer have the appetite to eat.
Placing down her cutlery, she said angrily, "That's enough! You can eat on your own. I'm full!"
After finishing her words, she stood up and glared at Evelyn before turning around and strode out of the room.
Seeing that, Buckley frowned.
There was no expression on Marty's face as if he affected by his mother leaving in anger.
On the other hand, Winry was a little worried.
Looking at Marty, she whispered with concern. "Marty, Auntie Charlotte..."
"Don't worry about her."
Before she could finish her sentence, Marty interrupted. He ate the vegetables he took for Charlotte, then he filled a bowl of soup for Evelyn and said, "Winry, for every woman in this world, the kinder you are, the lovelier you will be. Don't try to be like your aunt. She's already in her middle-age, but she's still so mean, making everybody..."
Before he could finish his words, he was interrupted by an angry voice.
"How dare you!"
Hearing that, Marty shut his mouth as he placed the bowl of soup bowl before Evelyn and then turned to look at his father.
With a darkened expression, Buckley frowned and stared at Marty before saying disapprovingly, "She is your mother. Is that how you address your mother?"
But Marty smiled.
"It's because she is my mother that I am telling the truth. If it were someone else, I would not be willing to say it."
"You!"
Suddenly, Evelyn interrupted. "Mr. Blaine."
Standing up, she looked at Buckley directly, and respectfully, she explained. "All in all, it's because Mrs. Blaine doesn't like me. Well, I thought that she would get to know me better as time passes by."
