Chapter 771 Lay Down the Law

Since the food and accommodation were covered, and she didn't need to spend at all, so it was only reasonable to hand her the money to act as an investment.
It was only then that Keira was relieved from her doubts and worries as she took the money with peace of mind.
After that, Emmeline didn't stay at her place for long before she left.
When she came back, she found a strange car parked outside.
Raising her eyebrows, she got out of the car, and right away, she heard a woman roaring before even entering the house.
"Who allowed you to let her in? She was banned from stepping into the Holland Residence a long time ago. Don't you know that?"
Hearing that the woman was roaring in undisguised anger, Emmeline turned to look at Uncle Poick, who was standing next to her respectfully and quietly. However, she noticed he had his head down as if he had not heard anything.
A sudden look of understanding flashed across her eyes as Emmeline squinted and thought for a moment before finally remembering who the familiar voice belonged to.
She had heard this voice before.
Wasn't she Jara's stepmother whom he was not that close with?
Four years ago, when she and Jara were still not at odds with each other, this stepmother had found out about their relationship.
At that time, she and Jara wanted to get engaged, but his stepmother was strongly against it.
Not only that, she even said something that was way too far over the line.
At the thought of this, a hint of coldness flashed across her eyes.
Huh. She was actually here?
Clearly, his stepmother must have seen her arriving just now.
The fact that she was yelling angrily when she saw Emmeline coming back, was she trying to lay down the law?
It seemed that her prejudice against her had not changed at all after four years.
Even though that was the case, Emmeline still found herself walking forward.
With her nicely arched eyebrows, sharp eyes, smiley red lips, straightened posture, and elegant footsteps, every characteristic demonstrated her confidence and pride. She was like a queen, overlooking the world as she walked toward the majestic front door.
Standing behind her, Uncle Poick couldn't help but stare at her in bewilderment.
He had gotten quite familiar with her. Although he had always liked her, he only felt that this girl looked clean and gentle, and she was a good candidate to become Mrs. Holland.
But he never noticed that she could be so dazzling. It was as if...
As if she had become another person!
In the past, Emmeline was already beautiful and generous. Even though she looked the same as before, she did not use to carry such a powerful temperament as she did now.
As he blinked a few times, suddenly Poick thought of something and frowned slightly.
However, at this moment, another furious roar was heard from inside of the house. After hesitating for a while, he finally suppressed his doubts and quickly followed into the house.
"Humph! The engagement between the two of you was canceled a long time ago. What are you doing here?"
In the majestic living room, a middle-aged woman was sitting on a broad sofa with her arms crossed. In front of her stood a row of ordinary-dressed men and women. At this time, all of them had their heads bowed, looking as if they had been wronged.
Meanwhile, Emmeline walked into the living room indifferently and glanced at her coldly without speaking.
Then, she gazed upon the people in the living room one after another.
However, to her surprise, she didn't see Jara.
When she realized that, she frowned.
His stepmother was here, but Jara was not?
It was really... Ergh!
On the other hand, in Mrs. Holland's eyes, Emmeline seemed to be expressing her dissatisfaction with her current expression.
With a cold snort, Mrs. Holland shouted at Raya who was standing next to her. "Why are you all still standing here? Send this prisoner out of the house!"
Prisoner?
Hearing that, Emmeline looked down at her own outfit. When she was released from prison, she only wore a loose T-shirt and a pair of jeans.
Later on, when she came out, Keira had brought her some clothes that she would usually wear.
And so, she had been wearing it until she came to the castle where Uncle Poick had prepared many expensive branded clothes for her.
However, she was still wearing the ones Keira bought for her because she was not used to the branded ones.
Although they were cheap, they were really comfortable to wear. They just looked a little cheap.
But, a prisoner?
As Emmeline's eyes turned cold, she raised her head and looked at Mrs. Holland calmly.
Through her deep dark eyes, there was not a trace of friendliness. Her gaze was cold and stern as if a pool of stagnant water had been frozen over. Those pair of eyes didn't seem like they belonged to a girl around twenty-six-year-old regardless of how they were looked at.
"What's with this look?"
In an instant, Mrs. Holland became even angrier. She was very well-maintained, so for someone who was in her forties, she looked like she was only around thirty years old.
While her smooth cheeks were flushed red due to anger, she glared at Emmeline angrily and said, "I am warning you. Women like you who have been prisoned better stay away from the Holland family! Otherwise, I will not be polite to you!"
Hearing that, Emmeline felt a little impatient all of a sudden. She was the kind of person who would rather fight wholeheartedly with someone than waste her breath screaming like a crazy woman.
Then, she replied unceremoniously, "Since you've talked so much, why don't you come at me?"
When her words came out, everyone present was stunned in an instant.
Mrs. Holland never thought that that would be the first sentence Emmeline spoke to her again after four years of separation.
To put it bluntly, the Salvation Club had been completely destroyed, so, not only Emmeline had nothing left but also had a record of being imprisoned.
Even though she had served her sentence, it would still be the biggest stain in her life.
The Holland family worried that others would gossip about them if they took her in. But, in the end, they still made sure she had someone to rely on when she was at her lowest point. For that, she should've felt grateful, but instead, she dared to speak to her in that rude manner?
Initially, Mrs. Holland was only planning to lay down the law, but now she was truly furious!
As Mrs. Holland stood up abruptly, her movement was so great that the pile of magazines on the sofa fell to the ground. Glaring in anger with her round and widened eyes, the current Mrs. Holland was not as gentle and elegant as she was described publicly.
However, she was so angry that she laughed suddenly. "Well! It seems that you're different now that you've gone to prison. Your tone sounded as if I should be afraid of you? Humph! Well, no matter what, our family are all honest businessmen. Of course, we won't argue with someone like you! But today, over here at this place, I think I'm still in charge to make the decision!"
Suddenly, her gaze turned sharp as she shouted at Raya. "Raya, take her out!"
Hearing that, Raya had no choice but to obey as she rushed forward to grab Emmeline's arm. Meanwhile, the servants were all standing on the sidelines and did not step forward to stop her. Instead, they secretly took a step back.
Although their movement was subtle, it still failed to escape Emmeline's eyes.
Curling her lips, she sneered as she squinted her eyes. Suddenly, her gaze turned cold, clenching her fists to the point where her knuckles were turning white.
But at this moment, her ears wiggled suddenly, then a touch of playfulness flashed across her eyes as she slowly released her fists.
Raya had already rushed up to her and was about to grab her arm.
Surprisingly, Emmeline did not flinch as if she was shocked to the core, and she did not respond to the attack at all.
