Chapter 956 To Borrow Money From Her
In truth, Clarissa was only worried that Matteo and Carlos would be too tired to take care of the kids as they were already quite old.
Anne was now nine years old, so obviously, she had better temper now compared to when she was younger. It would not take much effort for the two old couple to take care of her as they just had to oversee her school work and accompanied her.
Furthermore, Anne was a caring person. Matteo and Carlos were getting old. Although they enjoyed peace at home, sometimes they liked having their children and grandchildren around. Therefore, it was good for Anne to accompany her grandparents for a few months.
However, when it came to the Marf, it was a different case.
At the age of three, which was precisely the phase where he was most active, and he would make a mess at home all the time. It would be very hard for the grandparents to take care of him.
Of course, Matteo knew what she was thinking. Her heart ached for Clarissa when she thought of it, as she patted Clarissa's hand and sighed. "Clarissa, you've indeed worked very hard for the past few years."
Upon hearing that, Clarissa smiled lightly. "It's not hard at all. It's my responsibility."
While seeing them chatting happily, Chantel was eager to interrupt.
"That's true. I've witnessed Clarissa's hard work in the past few years. Fortunately, we have her in our family. Otherwise, it will be a mess."
She did not understand the art of talking. As soon as she finished her words, the warm and harmonious atmosphere suddenly became extremely awkward.
Immediately, Matteo glared at her with dissatisfaction. "So you're saying that I've been very poor at managing the family in the past?"
As Chantel heard the response, she was slightly stunned and her heart skipped a beat.
Right away, she smiled apologetically and explained. "No, I didn't mean that, Mom. I was just saying Clarissa is very good at managing the family."
Upon hearing that, Clarissa smiled.
Matteo was not in charge of the household anymore. The Jordan family's household affairs were all managed by Clarissa and Anderson thought she was very reliable. On the other hand, Chantel probably knew that there was no hope for her to be in charge of the household, so she tried to curry favor with her.
Clarissa had always held the same principle. If others were good to her, she would be nice to them.
Therefore, she did not put up an attitude, as she smiled and said, "Obviously, Grandma, you are the best, and Aunt Chantel, you are very good at it too. I heard that you made a lot of money by investing in some kind of business, right?"
At the mention of this, Chantel's face froze.
But she soon recovered and responded with a dry smile. "Yes, I did make some money, but it's not a big sum of money. I am just a nobody. What's more, I don't have a business mind, right Mom?"
Upon finishing her sentence, she even prompted Matteo to agree with her.
With a snorted, Matteo replied, "Finally, you know where you stand."
Meanwhile, Chantel looked embarrassed, so Clarissa didn't comment further. Seeing that it was almost time for lunch, she asked Pattie to serve the food.
"Grandpa, Grandma, shall we all head to the dining room for lunch?"
Hearing that, Carlos and Matteo nodded their heads. Only then did the group of people walked into the dining room together.
After the meal, Carlos and Matteo went home, but Chantel was not in a hurry to leave.
She sat in the living room with her hands clasped together. When she saw Clarissa coming down stairs, she quickly got up and asked, "Clarissa, why did you come down? Aren't you going to take a nap?"
In her mind, Clarissa laughed it was funny as she thought how could she take a nap while Chantel was here?
However, she didn't say it out loud. With a smile, she asked, "Aunt Chantel, is there anything I can do for you?"
When the words were spoken, Chantel's face froze, and she smiled awkwardly. "I-I wanted to talk to you about something."
Clarissa nodded.
In fact, she had long expected that there was something off with Chantel as soon as she entered the house today.
Although Chantel used to be friendly to her, she would never flatter her. At most, she would only be amiable on the surface.
But today, she had given her so many compliments. It seemed that she had something to ask of her.
While thinking of it, Clarissa understood what she meant. Then, she sat down in front of Chantel. "Aunt Chantel, what's the matter? You can tell me directly."
Chantel too sat down. After hesitating for a while, she uttered nervously. "If I told you about this. You are not allowed to tell Mom and Dad, and you are not allowed to tell Anderson too, is that okay?"
After some thought, Clarissa nodded in agreement.
"I can keep it a secret, but if they find out from other channels, you can't blame me."
Upon hearing that, Chantel nodded quickly. "I understand, I understand."
As she spoke, she hesitated again before she made up her mind and began explaining.
"Clarissa, it's like this. I invested in a business right? In fact, the business has always been very profitable. It's true that I made some money, but I have to keep reinvesting in it continuously. If I don't, I won't be able to get my money back. Do you understand what I mean?"
Frowning slightly, Clarissa touched her knee with her fingertips unconsciously. After a moment, she nodded and relpied, "I understand."
Immediately, Chantel felt relaxed and said with a smile, "It's good that you understand. I have invested a part of it now, but it's not enough. So I want to ask if it's convenient to lend me some money. Don't worry, I am borrowing it. When I get the return of my investment, I will definitely return it to you!"
While Clarissa looked at her, Chantel's fingers were nervously clasped together as she looked back at Clarissa with an expectant look on her face.
Then, Clarissa asked softly, "May I know what kind of business you have invested in?"
"Well, it's jade stones. You know I enjoy doing this."
Upon hearing that, Clarissa nodded with understanding.
In was true that Chantel was known for having an obsession in jade stones. In the past, she loved collecting and buying them. Later, she used them for gambling. Now... hearing her words, she probably had a bigger ambition?
Raising her eyebrows, Clarissa asked tentatively, "Aunt Chantel, have you bought a mine?"
Upon hearing that, Chantel widened her eyes in surprise.
She looked at Clarissa as if she was looking at a God.
"Wow, I knew you are smart. You already guessed it even before I tell you."
Clarissa smiled, but in truth, it was not a difficult guess.
Ever since Chantel lost all her asset in gambling, Matteo had been strict with her allowance. Therefore, in the past few years, she had been well-behaved.
Thus, she had saved up a lot of money. Although Clarissa didn't know the exact amount, she definitely had billions.
With so much money, Chantel was still coming to her for more and said that she invested in a big business related to jade stones. Then there was nothing else except for buying mines.
While she did not oppose Chantel in doing these things, Clarissa also knew that she only looked shrewd on the surface, but in truth, she was very simple minded. She would be cheated if she was not careful. Even for the Jordan family's wealth, they might be affected as well. .
As she thought about this, she pondered for a moment, then asked, "How much do you want to borrow?"
Chantel smiled and gestured with her finger. "Not much. One billion is enough."
Upon hearing that, Clarissa frowned.
Even for the Jordan family, a billion was not a small number too.
Therefore, she did not agree to her request immediately, but replied in a deep voice, "I need to discuss it with Anderson. I can't give you the money rashly. If he agrees, I will transfer the money to you."
When Chantel heard her reply, her eyes widened right away.
"No, I have already said that you can't let them know. Do you understand human language?"
