Chapter 692 Destined To Separate
"I didn't care if Sue didn't trust me because I was too busy with wedding preparations. Besides, my company was still in its early stages, so I was really preoccupied."
"Now that I think about it, it's because I neglected her at the time, thinking she'd figure it out on her own, so that was the cause of the disaster that followed."
Buckley didn't go on to discuss the subsequent incident. He didn't want to mention it in front of Clint now.
But even if he didn't say it, the two of them understood.
Clint's face darkened, while Roland nodded thoughtfully.
"So, isn't it all a misunderstanding?"
Buckley nodded. "Yes, but this misunderstanding is the result of my indecisiveness. It's all my fault."
He raised his head to look at Clint and said, "I'm aware you've been by her side for the past twenty-six years. This is also why I'm willing to let you off the hook today. I owed her for not making things clear back then. Well, I've returned the favor now that I've made amends with you."
Clint's face was flushed. He gritted his teeth and sneered after a while.
"You are really good at getting yourself out of these situations!"
Buckley did not comment.
He was exhausted. He didn't want to be involved with Clint anymore.
Later, he gave Roland a few orders in a low voice before pushing the wheelchair on his own to leave.
"Mr. Vale, it doesn't matter who is right or wrong now. Let bygones be bygones. Sue doesn't have much time left, and she needs you by her side. So... this is the last thing I'll do for her. You should take care of yourselves."
After that, Buckley exited the door.
Of course, he was escorted to the car by bodyguards.
Clint lost all strength to refute as he heard Buckley's explanation in the living room.
Then, Roland walked up to him, squatted down, and grinned as he said, "Mr. Vale, how is it? Are we going to proceed with the estate transfer procedure now?"
Hearing that, Clint glowered at him but didn't say anything else. He then drew himself up and let the two bodyguards bring him out.
The procedure was not troublesome, and it soon finished.
After, Roland had kept his promise and let Clint go. However, Clint's emotions were jumbled after hearing those words of Buckley's.
When he returned to his and Sue's residence, he wasn't in a hurry to enter. Instead, he remained in the yard.
Looking at the tightly closed door, he didn't seem to have the courage to open it.
Even now, he remembered what Sue had said to him.
The grievances she had suffered, the mistakes she had made, as well as her unwillingness and tolerance.
Sue was twenty years old when he first met her, and the incident at Charlotte and Buckley's wedding had not occurred.
Back then, he thought she was really charming and innocent. She was as pure as snow, which was very lovely.
He fell head over heels in love with her at first sight. They didn't interact much at the time, though.
Hence, he lacked the courage to confess to her.
After all, at that time, Sue was still the second daughter of the Dawson family. Although she was adopted, everyone knew that her family had always treated her nicely and had never let anyone bully her.
As for Clint?
He was still extremely young and had not yet achieved success at the time. He was just an ordinary man.
Furthermore, he didn't come from a wealthy family, nor did he have abundant resources. Consequently, he lacked the confidence to offer her a good life.
Therefore, he could only bury his love for her and never tell anyone about it.
Later, he inadvertently heard about the incident at the wedding. Furthermore, he had learned that the Dawsons planned to throw her into the sea in a fit of wrath.
Fortunately, she did not sink with that ship back then.
Somehow, she managed to survive.
However, even if she survived, at that time, she was no different from being dead.
If he hadn't rushed her to the hospital, she would have drowned in the sea and died from the cold winter night.
After that, he learned about what had happened during that period of time from her.
He felt pain and rage, as well as a small sense of joy.
He was infuriated by what the Dawsons and Buckley had done. Thankfully...
Sue was no longer the Dawson family's daughter. She was all alone and had no one to rely on. As a result, he was the only person she could trust and depend on.
That was why he took advantage of the opportunity to get close to Sue. He brought her abroad, took care of her, and assisted her in life.
He became a vital person by her side, and she appeared to sense his feelings for her as well.
It was just that she had never accepted him for so long.
Clint stood there recalling every detail of the past few years. For a little while, he was unsure whether he should be happy or sad.
She lied to him!
At the end of the day, while Buckley was partly to blame for what happened that year, things were not true from what she told.
She claimed Buckley took the initiative to approach her and cheat her feelings when at the same time, he was also dating Charlotte.
According to Sue, Charlotte was jealous of her and thought that she might steal her husband one day, so she threw her into the sea with a ship.
But in reality?
Sue refused to acknowledge that she was a mistress who had interfered with their relationship.
She refused to accept that her foster parents, who had loved her for many years, were the ones who wanted to drown her. Instead, she blamed it on Charlotte.
The Dawsons were straightforward people.
When they loved you, they would cherish you to the fullest. On the other hand, if they despised you, they would completely ruin you.
They had no sympathy at all. On the contrary, the vicious sister Sue spoke of saved her life behind her parents' back.
It seemed that the reason why she had not returned in the past few years was most likely for the sake of the promise she had made to Charlotte.
Sue's foster parents, the Dawsons, had passed away last year.
Now that she was back, no one would look into what had happened back in those days.
What a... good plot! How disappointing was this?
Clint remained outside for a long time, unable to muster the courage to open the door that was once familiar to him.
In the end, he turned around and walked out with determination.
They were destined to separate. His hopes were all just an illusion.
Everything was over now that he had awoken from his dream.
......
Sue had a night's dream.
In her dream, she seemed to have returned to her childhood.
Her body was slender and little as she lay on the orphanage's small bed. "Your fever has just subsided, have a pleasant rest," said a sweet helper who came over to take her temperature.
