Chapter 354 To Be Impartial

Lara was crying loud.
But among all the guests present, except for Old Master Levine, no one sympathized with her.
They were all looking at her in disdain.
After all, Lara was the one who was persuading the maid that she should correct her mistakes and be brave enough to confess them.
"And she even pretended to plead mercy for Maggie to win a good impression on herself."
It would be horrifying if Lara were to successfully fool everyone and no one had found out the truth.
As a result, everyone started to express their contempt for Lara.
Anderson had long known the truth. When Clarissa spoke up for Maggie, he had roughly guessed who the real culprit was.
However, since there was Lara who stood up for Maggie, he didn't have to chime in anymore.
Old Master Jordan and Old Madam Jordan were very surprised. After listening to the truth, they were both shocked and angry.
They couldn't wait to tear Lara into pieces.
After all, they didn't like her before knowing what happened between Lara and Clarissa. However, they didn't bother with her previously as she was the granddaughter of Old Master Levine.
But they didn't expect that she would be so sick as to lay her finger on a child!
Old Master Jordan said in a deep voice, "Old Master Levine, we know Lara is your granddaughter. But, Anne is the only child in our family. We all love her dearly and want to protect her at all costs. Naturally, we wouldn't bear to see her being hurt like this, right? You should know what to do about it."
Old Master Levine had a glum expression on.
He had never imagined that Lara would be the real culprit.
But in front of so many people, he did not have the heart to blame Lara on the spot.
After all, he had made great efforts to find her. Everyone knew well that Old Master Levine was using his birthday banquet as an opportunity to formally introduce Lara to everyone.
If he embarrassed Lara in public, it would be no different from a real slap in his own face.
So, Old Master Levine said with a gloomy face, "This is indeed Lara's fault. I will let her apologize to you in person."
As he spoke, he tipped Lara the wink.
Lara rushed forward and cried, "Clarissa, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have teased Anne like that. It is my fault that I had run away out of fear after seeing her fall into the water. I'm really sorry."
Then, she turned to Anne and said, "Anne, I didn't mean to hurt you. I was just playing with you. Now that I know I am in the wrong, can you forgive me?"
It did leave a good impression on the others when Lara lowered herself and apologized to Anne.
At least, when she humbly faced both Anne and Clarissa, some people would feel pity and sympathy for her.
Soon, there were some men present who tried to speak up for her, with no surprise.
"Mrs. Jordan, It seems like Miss Lara was unintentional. Since the child is alright and we are all relatives, why don't we leave the past behind?"
"Yeah, she had already apologized. Forgive and forget."
"After all, today is Old Master Levine's birthday. We should all be forgiving and stop dwelling on it."
"Just take it as a show of respect to Old Master Levine."
Old Master Levine also looked at Clarissa with hopes.
Old Master Levine knew that Anne was the daughter of Clarissa now. Hence, even if Old Master Jordan and Old Madam Jordan said they wouldn't mind, it won't be of any help.
Anderson and Clarissa had to agree.
Clarissa sat there with her head slightly bowed. Playing with a ring in her hand, she gave a weak smile.
"Do you really think saying sorry would fix everything, Old Master Levine?"
Levine was at loss of words all of a sudden.
There was a hint of dissatisfaction in her tone when he spoke again.
"Then what do you want?"
"Oh, what do I want? I'm just focusing on the current situation. Since the servant who was identified as the murderer was going to be handed over to the police, the same shall be applied to anyone who takes her place."
The air seemed to be freezing.
Everyone looked at Clarissa as if she had said something weird.
Was she kidding?
Lara and Maggie, were people from two different worlds.
If Lara was really handed over to the police, Old Master Levine's birthday banquet could be a laughing stock.
Leaving the embarrassment that the Levine family would face, everyone knew that Old Master Levine intended to marry Lara to Jaden.
It started off with a family conflict which escalated to a gruesome murder. If Lara were to be prosecuted and be charged with attempted murder, would the Holland family should accept her?
Old Master Levine's face was contorted with rage.
Both Old Master Jordan and the Old Madam Jordan sat by the side without saying anything.
However, they were applauding Clarissa in their hearts.
After all, they were friends who had been through thick and thin with Old Master Levine. It wasn't appropriate for them to make things difficult for him in persons at this moment.
It was inappropriate for the elders like them to take the initiative to call Lara to account. They would appear to be bullying the weak if they had done so.
But Clarissa was different.
Clarissa was Anne's mother as well as the younger generation, which were all the more reasons she could confront Old Master Levine about Lara's wrongdoings.
Old Master Levine glared at her angrily, but he knew he was in the wrong so he couldn't refute her too.
It was only then that Lara started to panic completely.
"Clarissa, I didn't mean to do that. I really didn't mean to drown Anne. I know, you didn't like me. You must hate me to death now for what had happened!
But today grandpa's birthday banquet after all. Can't you forgive me once for his sake?"
Even though Clarissa knew how shameless Lara could be, at this moment, she was still amazed by how shameless she could get.
She sneered and said, "Lara, you said you didn't do it on purpose, but do you have any evidence to prove that you didn't deliberately push Anne into water? Do you have evidence that you really want to save her from falling into the water, instead of pushing her?"
Lara's expression changed!
Old Master Levine slammed his palm on the table with a loud bang.
"That's enough!"
He looked at Clarissa coldly and said in a deep voice, "We're not trying to pass the buck for what we've done to Anne. But that doesn't mean that anyone can frame us at will!
"Even if there is no evidence to prove that she was trying to save Anne from falling, there is also no evidence to prove that she wanted to kill her! You'd better be careful with your words!"
Clarissa's expression also darkened.
However, before she could speak, Anderson spoke first.
"Wouldn't it be better to let the police investigate it thoroughly? I know Old Master Levine is just trying to protect Lara. But what about my daughter? She is precious to all of us too."
