Chapter 566 Forced to Stay
Hearing that, Evelyn was a little shocked. Suddenly, she thought of something, as she immediately pushed him away, and ran out quickly.
On the balcony, the wind was roaring, and the raindrops were as big as beans. The moment she went out, she was slammed into the glass door by the wind. She groaned, but suddenly she felt her arms were grabbed tightly, as she fell into a warm embrace.
Looking at the weather outside, Marty said in a low voice, "It's going to rain heavily."
"I know," said Evelyn, as she struggled to open her eyes in the strong wind. "My succulents are still outside."
They were only bought a few days ago, and she really liked them, as she had been taking care of it attentively.
When some people were going through a difficult situation, they tended to resolve into taking care of these plants and animals, so that they could find a sense of hope.
While watching the plants grow healthily, it was as if she was able to foresee her beautiful life in the future.
After she finished her sentence, she was about to dash out. Upon seeing the succulents on the balcony, Marty pulled her behind him, and said, "Hold on to the door and don't move."
Instantly, he rushed out and quickly brought in the few pots of plants, then closed the glass door and locked it tightly.
Using scotch tape, the two of them tape it onto several pieces of glass that were larger in size to prevent the typhoon from shattering it. It was only after they had done everything that they finally let out a sigh of relief.
As the wind howled outside, but it was quiet inside the room.
The two stood in the living room, staring at each other. At that moment, Evelyn felt a little embarrassed, as her words were quite harsh earlier, but because she had him helped close the window, she felt slightly guilty.
Hence, she smiled awkwardly and said, "In such heavy rain, will your driver be able to come?"
Clearing his throat, Marty took out his phone. "I'll call and ask."
When the phone was connected, he glanced at her, and seeing that she was looking at him with her sparkling eyes, he spoke seriously, "Where are you? Why haven't you come yet?"
The driver, who had been waiting downstairs, was a little confused. "Mr. Blaine, I have arrived for a long time."
"What? Mountbatten Road collapsed? Are you stuck there? Well, don't come over anymore. It's such a big typhoon, and accidents might happen. Just go back!"
The driver was speechless.
After hanging up the phone, Marty shook his head helplessly.
"There is no other way. The heavy rain had caused a landslide. It seems that I will need to stay over tonight."
While he was speaking, he sat down on the sofa right away.
Noticing the situation, Evelyn raised her eyebrows and thought to herself that it was not a good idea.
Stuttered, she said, "Well... there is only one room here, and the other room is filled with a lot of clutter. Because it is already late, it's not convenient to tidy up. Anyway, there is a hotel nearby. Why don't you go to the hotel to sleep for a night?"
Although she replied in a tentative tone, in truth, her refusal was very obvious.
After a glance, a faint smile appeared on his face, but his gaze was a little cold.
"You want me to sleep in the hotel?"
At once, Evelyn nodded.
Afraid of offending him, she smiled dryly and added, "Well... I'm just afraid that you won't be used to living here. After all, you are posh, and my place is old and shabby. It won't be nice if you feel uncomfortable."
Upon hearing that, Marty stood up and sneered, "It's alright, I'm not afraid of being uncomfortable. But, if you're really worried that I'll feel uncomfortable, why don't you serve me better tonight? Perhaps I'll buy you a big house if I'm happy. What do you say?"
As he spoke, he even reached out his hand, and gently lift up her chin.
Froze, Evelyn took a step back subconsciously, and avoided his hand.
And Marty's fingers were left hanging in the air.
Looking down, Evelyn forced a smile.
"It's alright. If you really want to stay here, you can stay. I'll tidy up the room for you."
As she finished her sentence, she turned around and ran away hurriedly.
Looking at her running away before his eyes, Marty narrowed his eyes slightly, as he put down his hand and smile in silence.
In a short time, Evelyn had tidied up the room for him.
It was actualy not quite accurate to say that she was tidying up the room for him. After all, she knew his temper.
Because she lived alone in the house, and even though it was a two-bedroom house, she only slept in one room, and the other room had already been used to pile up her things.
The bed was full of boxes, so she moved everything away, and put on a new bedsheet.
Although it looked very neat and tidy now, she absolutely wouldn't dare to suggest Marty to sleep in that room.
Hence, she let him have her bedroom, and she would sleep in the other room.
When Marty realized the situation, he didn't make things difficult for her anymore, and obediently went to the room to rest.
That night, she didn't know whether it was because she was not used to sleeping in that room or because something was on her mind.
Throughout the night, Evelyn did not sleep well. In her sleep, she even dreamed of the scene of her father's death when she was little a long time ago.
It was an incredibly difficult day. Held by her mother, Evelyn was so skinny and small at the time, as they walked forward in the mud.
Knowing that in this life, she might not need to care about anything, nor did she need to do anything, but she must take good care of her mother.
Those days that were dull and lightless had become the past, and everything was better now.
She was fine with anything, as long as her mother's illness can be cured, and she wouldn't mind even if she had to sacrifice everything.
The dream was deep and long.
In the silent night, a drop of hot tears quietly trickled down from the corner of her eyes.
A man's sigh was heard suddenly in the dark.
Reaching out his hand and gently wiping her tears away from the corner of her eyes, Marty helped to tuck her in before leaving.
When Evelyn woke up, it was already the next morning.
The sun came scorching through the window and warmed the whole room.
Squinting her eyes and stretching her body, only then did she suddenly remember that Marty was still in the room next door.
With the realization, she jumped in fright, quickly sitting up, and checked the time. She found that it was already nine o'clock in the morning, and her expression changed instantly.
She said to herself, 'Oh no!' in silence, then got up from the bed hurriedly.
However, by the time she put on her clothes and hurried to the next room, she found out that Marty had already left.
There was no one in the room. When she touched the blanket, she found that it was cold, and could not feel the warmth of the human body.
It meant that he had been gone for a long time.
Immediately, Evelyn heaved a sigh of relief. Not knowing if she was relieved or slightly upset, somehow, she felt a bit strange, with mixed feelings.
Nevertheless, it was a good thing that he had left. At least, he would not find a way to trouble her.
Hence, she didn't think much about it, and assumed Marty had left earlier because he had something urgent to do. In fact, she didn't even make a phone call and proceeded to wash up.
After washing up, she made breakfast for herself.
And after breakfast, it was about 10:30 AM when Carrie came to pick her up.
These two days, Marissa did not arrange any work for Evelyn, and there was only one interview that she had to attend.
