Chapter 1028 A Pretty Woman
Upon hearing that, Clarissa felt that it seemed inappropriate to ask more questions, so she kept quiet.
After climbing the stairs, they entered the main hall. In front of them was a tall statue of the Goddess.
The statue was cast with gold, and it was several meters high. When the sunlight shone from the window to the statue, the body was so dazzling that it could make someone go blind.
While Anne stood below the statue, she looked up and exclaimed, "Wow! It's so tall!"
Clarissa smiled and said, "Since you've seen the Goddess, you may go ahead and pray."
To that, Anne nodded. Immediately, she put her hands together, closed her eyes, and began to pray.
Sierra did the same by her side. As for Clarissa and Anderson, they didn't believe in these. So, instead of making a wish, they looked around curiously.
Suddenly, Marf spoke.
"Mommy, look! There's a pretty woman."
Upon hearing that, Clarissa looked in the direction he pointed.
It was a large mural. It was far away, so she could see it clearly despite its size. As for the statue, she was standing near to it. Hence, she couldn't even see the upper part of it.
With different combinations of color, this mural looked artistic. After Clarissa held Marf's hand and walked closer, she found that it was a painting of a woman.
In the painting, the woman was wearing a golden dress while standing barefoot on the clouds. Overall, she looked gorgeous.
"Indeed, she is a pretty woman. Well, I guess you have better eyesight than mine," Clarissa joked.
Hearing that, Marf giggled.
Just then, Anderson also came over and looked at the mural before jested, "I didn't expect a Goddess in Oyraka to look like a Doscean. That's rare."
Clarissa replied, "I feel the same way too, but didn't history state that some of the Oyrakans immigrated to Doscea last time? Maybe their features were similar at that time."
Listening to her words, Anderson didn't say anything, and the two of them looked at the mural silently. After Anne was done praying, they left together.
On their way out, a staff came from the front and asked them for offerings.
Clarissa didn't expect that this place would collect offerings too.
She thought that they only needed to pay for the ticket.
However, since she was here for a trip, she decided not to haggle about it and gave them some money.
After a while, Sierra came out.
Feeling excited, she went to Clarissa and said, "Clarissa, I discovered something. Guess what it is?"
Clarissa turned to look at her and smiled. "What is that?"
"Weren't you curious about who built this place? I've inquired about it, but the staff didn't know much. He only told me that it was a kind person from the east."
Hearing that, Clarissa was dumbfounded.
"The east?"
"Yes. I did ask them a few more questions, but they didn't know anything. As for the accounts here, it was specially assigned to someone."
Clarissa frowned.
For some reason, after hearing Sierra's words, she felt that this place was strange.
Even so, it was none of her business, so she didn't put much thought into it.
As they had donated just now, the staff told them that they could go to the back and get some blessed fruits.
Although Clarissa and Anderson couldn't bother about it, they decided to take a look at it.
So, they went to the back hall.
Compared to the front hall, the back hall was flooded with people. All of them were here to receive blessings.
Looking at this scene, Clarissa felt ridiculous. Most probably, those people believed their wishes would be easily fulfilled by having those blessings. Or maybe, they were following the trend.
After that, a staff came over and handed her a fruit.
She took it and looked at it. It was an ordinary apple, and its skin was shriveled. Clearly, it was not fresh.
Now, she didn't even want the fruit anymore. After exchanging glances with Anderson, she put the apple on the table, and they left.
Right after someone noticed that she didn't want it, he rushed over, grabbed the apple, and chomped on it.
His movements were so rapid as if he was here for robbery.
This time, Clarissa felt nothing but disdain.
Feeling disgusted, she turned around and left.
On her way out, she complained to Sierra, "There was nothing special about this place. I would rather spend my time in the church than praying to a goddess. In the future, you'd better not go to places like this."
"Don't worry. Usually, I will spend most of my time in the castle. If it isn't because I wanted to show you and the others around, I won't even come here," Sierra laughed.
After hearing that, Clarissa was at ease.
It was not because she was too narrow-minded, but because this place was supposed to be quiet and holy.
However, from the moment she entered, this place gave her a feeling of tackiness, horridness, and absurdness.
As for the worshipers, she was in no position to criticize them. Regardless of anything, this was their belief.
Nevertheless, she was worried that if Sierra—who was pure and innocent—came to such a place, she would be easily deceived by others, resulting in some serious consequences.
Thankfully, Sierra didn't believe in these things.
After all, she had died once. Hence, she could see through many things in life, such as fame and wealth.
Now, she just wanted to stay with Robert and live a quiet and ordinary life. Besides, after reunited with Clarissa, she felt more satisfied.
Therefore, she did not have any desires, and naturally, she had no reason to pray anymore.
Although Clarissa didn't know what Sierra was thinking, she prayed that Sierra wouldn't set her foot in this place next time.
Moreover, she also thought that as soon as she got home, she must tell Mr. Lane that this place was unpleasant, and they shouldn't come here again.
After making up her mind, Clarissa stopped paying attention to the surroundings.
However, Anderson suddenly halted.
As he had been holding Clarissa's hand, she subconsciously stopped as well.
Feeling curious, she turned to look at Anderson and asked, "What's wrong?"
Anderson did not reply while his gaze was fixed at a place near him.
Following his gaze, Clarissa saw nothing but a winding corridor with pedestrians and some travelers on it.
At once, she furrowed her brows.
"What did you see?"
Upon hearing her voice, Anderson retracted his gaze.
"Nothing." He shook his head.
After that, he asked Sierra, "Should we go back and rest? It's getting late."
When Sierra looked at the time, it was already four o'clock in the afternoon.
In fact, they left the house after having breakfast, and they had been traveling around for approximately seven hours. Hence, it was impossible not to be tired.
