Chapter 814 Lend a Helping Hand

Emmeline frowned impatiently and asked, "Who's outside?"
Yunne came in and whispered, "It's Miss Burke."
When Emmeline heard Kayla's name, her frown deepened.
Oh, it was that phony again.
What was she doing here?
However, regardless of the reason, Emmeline's sleep was disrupted by the rowdy disturbance outside.
Since Emmeline wasn't able to sleep, she thought she might as well get up.
So, she got up in frustration and asked Yunne to push her out in her wheelchair.
The moment she got out of her room, she saw Kayla reprimanding a servant.
In Tower B, even though Emmeline and Kayla's rooms were on different sides, they were both on the same floor.
Normally, Emmeline wouldn't go out often, so they would rarely run into each other unless one of them deliberately waited for the other.
Thanks to that, throughout those days they lived together, they hardly had any conflicts.
At this moment, Kayla was standing there arrogantly with her hands on her hips while berating a servant from Tower B.
Emmeline recognized the servant. She was Lilly Martin, the cook from Tower B's kitchen.
Usually, she was the one who prepared Emmeline and Kayla's meals.
In all fairness, although Lilly's cooking was not over the top, it was decent. Sometimes, even a picky eater like Emmeline would praise her cooking skills.
What was Kayla doing?
Since they were sharing the same cook, Emmeline decided not to turn a blind eye. With that, she asked Yunne to bring her over.
When Emmeline arrived there, she got the picture of the whole situation after hearing Kayla's scolding. It turned out that Lilly had prepared a martini for Kayla as she was craving for it this morning.
However, after Kayla tasted the martini, she said that it was made using cheap vodka. Moreover, she remembered that Uncle Poick had asked someone to send her a bottle of high-end vodka a few days ago.
As a result, Kayla suspected that Lilly must have secretly switched that bottle of vodka to a cheap one and brought the high-end vodka back home.
Unlike the other servants, Lilly was married and had a child. Her husband was an employee of a major enterprise in the city, and her child was still attending kindergarten. Therefore, she didn't stay here at night.
Instead, she would return home to her family after preparing dinner every day.
From the way Kayla spoke, she was confident that Lilly had no way to prove her innocence.
After all, it had already been a few days since Uncle Poick gave her the vodka.
Even if Lilly did not have it with her, Kayla could insist that Lilly must have brought it out of the castle and hidden it somewhere.
Therefore, facing Kayla's arrogant look, Lilly was so helpless and anxious that she almost cried out. She had no idea how to explain herself.
When Emmeline witnessed that, her eyes turned cold.
At the same time, she could feel Yunne's hands—which were holding the handle of her wheelchair—tighten and was slightly trembling.
With that, she looked up and saw the faint anxiety and rage on Yunne's face.
As doubts flashed across her mind, Emmeline asked in a low voice, "Do you know her?"
When Yunne heard this, she lowered her head and looked at Emmeline's gentle eyes. Biting her lips, she nodded.
"She's a close friend of mine, and we're from the same hometown. She..."
Abruptly, Yunne paused, but in the end, she continued without hesitation, "She is honest and upright, so I believe that she is innocent."
Hearing that, Emmeline nodded.
Then, she turned to look at Kayla, and her cold eyes were filled with extra coldness.
Coincidentally, Kayla grew infuriated by Lilly—who refused to admit the offense—and was about to slap her.
However, before her hand could hit Lilly's face, someone intercepted her.
Being interrupted, Kayla looked down and saw Emmeline.
The moment her eyes met Emmeline's cold glare, she was shocked.
Instantaneously, she halted her movements.
Meanwhile, the rest of the people were surprised by Emmeline's arrival as well. At the same time, hope rose in their hearts.
Soon, Kayla recollected herself.
Scanning around, she saw everyone's reaction and became crossed.
"What are you doing?"
She glared at Emmeline and fumed.
With a cold stare, Emmeline rebuked, "Who allowed you to hit her?"
Unlike any other ordinary girl, her voice wasn't sweet and gentle. Even though it was crisp and clear, there were traces of huskiness and aloofness in it, which were both charming and domineering.
After hearing Emmeline's words, Kayla was stunned.
Seconds later, she sneered, "Butt out, Emmeline. Can't you see? I am just punishing a lowly servant."
Before that, Emmeline disliked getting herself into a dispute. Therefore, she normally wouldn't even bother to spare a glance at such an unreasonable person as Kayla.
Even so, this time, she couldn't overlook this matter.
First of all, Lilly worked hard to prepare their daily meals. Although it was her job, Emmeline was still grateful to her.
Secondly, Yunne served Emmeline daily, although it was a part of her job.
Yunne had a good personality and they clicked with each other well.
Since Lilly was Yunne's friend, she couldn't disregard Lilly in this situation.
As a result, Emmeline—who had never liked to poke her nose into other people's business—intervened for the first time, and she seemed like she wasn't going to back off.
She glowered, "You are free to teach anyone a lesson. I don't care, but she is not only your servant. She is in charge of everyone's meal in Tower B. If you hurt her, who is going to prepare my meals?"
Hearing that, Kayla was dumbfounded.
It didn't occur to her that Emmeline, who seemed ignorant, would talk about her meal right now.
However, unfortunately, she was right.
Irked, Kayla gnashed her teeth for a while before she scoffed.
"Well, you're right. If I were to hurt her, there would be no one to serve our honorable Miss Illington."
As she said that, a wicked smirk flashed in her eyes. Suddenly she squatted down and whispered to Emmeline, "Don't you even know when to stay out? You may get yourself into trouble if you meddle in other people's business."
Upon hearing that, Emmeline frowned and looked at Kayla coldly.
Even so, she stayed silent, whereas Yunne, who was next to her, overheard it. At once, Yunne was purple with rage.
"Kayla, what nonsense are you talking about? How dare you threaten Miss Illington..."
"Slap!"
Before Yunne could finish her words, a slap fell on her face.
Instantly, she froze.
Besides her, all the other servants were stunned as well.
After all, it was no longer the ancient times. Even if Yunne was just a lowly maid, she was also protected by human rights.
