Chapter 789 Scared Her Away
As she spoke, the blade moved from Kayla's ears to her neck.
The cold blade made her tremble vigorously and she was about to cry.
"Emmeline, y—you. If you have something to say, let's talk nicely..."
No matter how bold and reckless Kayla was, after all, she was just a pampered young lady who had been raised in a wealthy family since young. She had never been threatened by someone with a knife like this before.
Therefore, as soon as she felt the cold blade moving across her skin, she completely gave in.
However, Emmeline did not intend to let her go that easily.
Her eyes darkened as she continued, "By the way, you don't know what I used to do, do you?"
In response, Kayla shook her head, "No, I don't."
"Why don't... you make a guess? If you can guess it right, I'll let you go."
When Kayla heard this, she was secretly cursing her for being a crazy woman. Nevertheless, she was afraid to say anything and could only muster the courage to glance at her.
She noticed Emmeline had delicate and beautiful facial features, which could be classified somewhere between innocent and naughty. Her short hair was neat, and the few strands of hair that hung over her forehead made her eyes look particularly cold and clean.
After some thought, she shook her head. "I don't know."
She really had no idea about it.
Although with Emmeline's appearance and temperament, Kayla knew that she must have lived a good life in the past, otherwise, she would not be able to have such a bearing.
But as for what she used to do, Kayla really couldn't figure it out.
Nonetheless, she could sense the callous temperament emanating from her. Although she had a vague assumption, she didn't dare to say it out loud.
Seeing that, Emmeline didn't get angry but smiled slightly instead.
However, it was fine that she did not smile, but the moment she did, Kayla felt a chill running down her spine, hoping that she would just say whatever she wanted and let her go as soon as possible.
Slowly, Emmeline came close to her ear and said in a low voice, "I used to be... a professional killer."
What?
Hearing that, Kayla froze for a moment.
Professional killer? What the hell?
Then, Emmeline continued. "I'm afraid that the number of people I have killed is more than you can imagine. You haven't seen a killer killing someone, have you? To be honest, as long as I want to, I can think of ten thousand ways to kill you, and I can guarantee that no one will know. Do you want to give it a try?"
The words were said in an extremely cold tone.
Finally, Kayla realized that Emmeline was not joking with her today.
At any rate, her face remained calm, without a hint of anger, and she didn't even lash out at Kayla.
However, Kayla knew that she was unhappy. In fact, she really unhappy!
The more disturbed she was, the calmer her face would look!
It was like a calm sea, seemingly calm on the surface, but there were turbulent currents underneath.
In that moment, Kayla was really scared!
Somehow, she suddenly felt that Emmeline really had the courage and the ability to kill her and hide her body without a trace. No one would be able to find it, and no one would know about it.
In that very instant, she was regretting her actions, regretting the fact that she had offended her.
Fortunately, Emmeline didn't really plan to kill her.
After seeing that she was as pale as ashes, she gradually released her hand, and put the dagger away, then stood up straight.
However, she still looked calm and composed. Her gaze was so relaxed as if nothing had happened just now.
Then, she asked coldly, "Now, do you still think that I took your necklace?"
Hearing that, Kayla shook her head like a robot.
Emmeline raised her eyebrows.
"So?"
"I will leave right now!"
When she shouted, it was as if she had realized something, then, she straightened up and added. "I'll leave right away, and I won't bother you anymore. I'm sorry that I have failed to acknowledge you before. Will you please forgive me?"
Raising the corner of her mouth, Emmeline nodded in return.
"Remember what you have said. My patience is limited. Next time..."
"There won't be a next time, I promise!"
At this moment, Kayla had a strong desire to live, so after she finished speaking, she quickly raised her hand, swearing an oath as if she was afraid that Emmeline would not believe her.
Only then did Emmeline lift the corners of her lips and made a gesture with her eyes. Upon receiving the hint from her gaze, Kayla immediately scurried away.
Emmeline watched as she left, then her smile faded gradually.
On the other hand, Yunne had witnessed the entire process, and she equally as frightful and respectful toward Emmeline.
The thing that she was afraid of was what Emmeline had just said. Yunne had only arrived at the castle not long ago, so she didn't know anything about the past. Hence, when she heard that she had killed someone, she felt scared.
On the contrary, the thing she respected was the way Emmeline dealt with Kayla and the aura she was giving off from inside out.
For that, she was definitely not an ordinary person.
With the thought in mind, she could not help but look up again and glanced at Emmeline.
At that moment, Emmeline had retracted her gaze, looking impassive as she turned around and adjusted the mirror that Kayla and her maid had flipped over on the table.
Without looking at Yunne, Emmeline lowered her head slightly and said in a low voice, "There is nothing else here. You may leave."
Pursing her lips, she wanted to remind her that if Mr. Holland found out that Kayla had caused a scene, he would definitely not let her go easily.
Kayla had been wanting to drive Emmeline out of the castle. However, Emmeline could complain about what had happened to Jara, and by that time, Kayla might be the one who would be kicked out.
That being said, Yunne hadn't serve Emmeline for long, and she did not know her that well.
If she blurted it out rashly, Emmeline might not like it, or she might dislike someone like this.
Moreover, somehow, Yunne had a feeling that Emmeline would not want to go to Jara and seek for his help to solve the issue.
Thus, in the end, she did not say anything. With a soft voice, she replied, "Okay." Then, she turned around and left obediently.
After she left, the room became completely quiet.
As Emmeline stood there, her mind was a little blank. It was as if the noisy world had suddenly quieted down, and she felt slightly empty.
However, it only took two seconds for her to come to her senses. Recalling Kayla's reaction just now, she couldn't help but laugh.
In truth, she really culdn't care less about Kayla.
To her, Kayla was insignificant, and she was not worth her time to deal with. So during this period of time, although Emmeline knew that she had ill intentions, she just ignored them as it was better to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Besides, the people who are troubling her were basically Jara's subordinates. He was a genius person and someone extremely versatile, hence, regardless of the kind of person he dealt with, he would be able to gain control.
Furthermore, even Emmeline could see that Jara might not be sincere to that woman.
She was just a pawn that allowed others to take advantage of her. To spend so much effort on her, he was literally digging a hole for himself.
Therefore, Emmeline had never acknowledged her directly, and she had never thought of targeting her either.
But, she couldn't stop Kayla from targetting her.
