Chapter 345 Except For Her
Gillee looked at her coldly while having the same glum expression.
"Do you think I will believe you just because you say so? Do you think you can make things right by just an apology?
I've told you so many times to behave yourself. Don't make trouble for me. Did my words go in one ear and out the other?"
No matter how good-tempered Lara was, she could not help but be boiling with anger after being chided by Gillee.
Lara bit her lip and said with dissatisfaction, "Even if I've offended Clarissa, what could she do to me? I am pretty sure that she would not dare to risk letting grandpa fall ill again by telling the truth! If so, if anything happens to the old master, she will be blamed for it. At that time, even Old Master Jordan would have a problem with her, let alone the Levine family."
Gillee didn't expect that she would say that, and he was at a loss for words for a moment.
When he turned to look at her again, he could not help but be more vigilant.
"I'm warning you, don't think that you can do whatever you want just because grandpa has your back. Our target is not Clarissa. If you act impulsively and ruin things for us, I will never let you off."
Upon hearing his words, Lara was a little petrified.
She calmed down and said softly, "Gillee, don't you worry. I won't mess things up. But I'm worried that someone will be jealous of me and say something to grandpa. I'm not worried if a single person tells it to him. But what if a lot of people say something to him? It will certainly raise the suspicion of grandpa. What should I do then?"
Gillee looked at her and sneered.
"What are you afraid of? At the worst, you could do a paternity test. Why do you need to be afraid if you are the child of the Levine family? Am I right?"
As Gillee spoke, his tone suddenly turned cold. His gaze was filled with derision and was ice-cold. Lara could not help but shiver.
She quickly bowed her head and said respectfully, "Yes, I got it."
Gillee turned and left.
Lara let out a sigh of relief while touching her hair. She was about to turn around and walk towards the garden.
However, at this moment, a "click" sound could be heard.
Lara was slightly stunned at first and her expression
"Who is it?"
It was pitch dark ahead. The moonlight and the streetlight intertwined and reflected on the tall bushes outside, causing shadows.
A shadow was reflected in the corridor behind the marble pillars. There was dead silence.
Lara's heart was pounding.
Her face was turning pale. Lara looked around to make sure that no one was around, and then carefully walked to the place where the voice just came from.
When she walked over, she made sure that there was indeed no one under the tree.
Although it was a tree as tall as a man, the crown of the tree was enormous, and the branches below were waist-high. If a person were to hide here, he would have to to bend his back. It was impossible for him to escape so quickly.
Could it be that she had made a mistake?
Lara secretly let out a sigh of relief, thinking that it might be a cat wandering around, or the sound of pebbles falling off the flowerpot after being blown by the wind!
Lara was relieved. When she was about to leave, she felt like she was tripped by an object under her feet.
Lara was slightly stunned. She took a step back and saw a pink hairpin lying on the grass.
She frowned slightly before bending down to pick up the hairpin.
There was no dew on the hairpin, and there was residual warmth of the human body lingering on it. It was obvious that someone had dropped him here not long ago.
The hairpin probably belonged to a girl of a tender age, so she couldn't have come from the Levine family. Besides, there were only a few guests who brought their children here today.
Except for her...
Lara's gaze suddenly turned cold.
......
Clarissa and Anderson chatted with Marty and the others for a while before leaving the back garden. They then went to the front to look for Old Master Jordan and Old Madam Jordan.
Both Old Master Jordan and Old Madam Jordan were old and preferred to be in a quiet place away from the youngsters, so they had been chatting with Old Master Levine in the lounge.
Along with them were Claus and Old Madam Blaine.
When Clarissa went over, a servant was leading Anne towards the lounge holding her hands.
Clarissa shouted. Hearing that, Anne turned around and her eyes suddenly lit up.
"Mommy, daddy!"
Anne let go of the servant's hand right away and rushed forward in the direction of Clarissa and Anderson.
Anne had slowly grown taller and healthier, so her strength was much greater than before.
Anderson was worried that Clarissa would be hauled down to the ground as she was wearing high heels today, so he took a step forward and picked Anne up.
Anne didn't bother. She put her arms around Anderson's neck and shouted happily, "Mommy, where did you go? I haven't seen you for the whole night."
Clarissa smiled. "Mommy and daddy went to keep Lauren company. Why are you out alone? Why aren't you with great-grandma and great-grandpa?"
Anne wrinkled her little nose and said discontentedly, "Great-grandma and great-grandpa have been chatting all the time. It's not fun at all. I don't want to play with them."
Clarissa couldn't help but laugh.
The servant next to her explained, "Miss Anne wanted to go to the bathroom, so Old Madam Jordan asked me to take her there. After that, we were about to go back when we saw you coming."
Clarissa nodded and said to Anderson, "Let's go in too."
Anderson nodded. The two of them walked to the lounge holding Anne in Anderson's arms.
Anderson and Clarissa could tell that they were having a good time in the lounge. Old Master Levine greeted them with a smile when he saw them come in.
"Anderson, Clarissa, you are here too. Come in and have a seat."
Clarissa and Anderson sat down and saw Jaden sitting across from them. He was sitting next to Claus and close to Old Master Levine. Clarissa and Anderson knew what was going on right away.
"Everyone is here today. I am very happy. It has been a long time since the four great families had a lively gathering like today."
Old Master Levine sighed.
"I've always been in poor health. Thanks to you, the Levine family has been taken good care of by all of you the past few years. In fact, I know very well that the unfilial descendants of mine are all good-for-nothing. All they know is to muck around and scheme against each other."
"But I suppose I have no control over their future. I am too old to be bothered in their business too. How they develop in the future depends on their fates! If any of you here don't see eye to eye with what they are doing, do help them as much as you can. That way, I could rest in peace when I died."
The group of people present in the room couldn't help frowning when they heard that.
However, it was not because Old Master Levine's words were too blunt, but because in such a festive occasion today, these words sounded like a killjoy.
Old Master Levine didn't look like he was holding a birthday banquet, but rather, he looked like he was leaving his will.
Among them, Gillee, who was standing behind Old Master Levine, had the most gloomy expression on his face.
Clarissa slightly lowered her eyes and said with a smile, "Old Master Levine, you're wrong. I don't know much about the others of the Levine family. But I know Uncle Gimmy. He definitely stand out from the rest of his generation, even the younger generation may not be able to compete with him. Therefore, you don't have to be too self-deprecating."
