Chapter 774 No Idea of the Inside Scoop
Her heavy footsteps were as if a hammer was steadily hitting on one's heart. It was not painful, but one could feel her darkness and sorrow.
As soon as Emmeline disappeared into her bedroom, the door of the study was quietly opened. With a cup in his hand, Jara happened to see her door being closed up, Then, he raised his eyebrows.
Suddenly, a man was heard laughing at Jara through his earpiece.
"Boss, Ma'am has already taken the initiative to come to you in the middle of the night. Why didn't you show some love?"
The man was teasing him over the earpiece.
Meanwhile, Jara's lips were pressed into a thin line, as the scene two minutes ago appeared in this mind, where Emmeline was in her maroon-colored pajamas, lazily leaning against the door of his study.
Then, his eyes darkened, and he said coldly, "It seems like you're pretty free recently. Should I call Sumo here to train with you?"
"Ah! No, no!" Immediately, the man took back his words. "Boss, I haven't seen anything! I swear."
After Jara heard the reply, the corner of his lips curled up slightly, and he did not say anything further. Subsequently, he walked downstairs with his glass in hand.
In fact, many of his subordinates knew about his relationship with Emmeline.
After all, four years ago...
Some of them hated her, but some of them knew the truth, so they didn't blame her.
And for those who knew the truth, they were mostly Jara's most trusted subordinates.
They knew Jara's feelings towards Emmeline, and that was also why the title "Ma'am" hadn't changed.
Only, it was no longer possible for the two to get back together.
When Jara thought of this, his eyes darkened. The pair of eyes that originally looked gentle suddenly turned cold again.
On the other end, after Emmeline closed the door, she took out her mobile phone.
Her slender fingers danced across the keyboard and dial in a string of numbers. Then, she walked to the window to pull up the heavy curtains while waiting for the call to be connected.
Five seconds later, the phone was connected, and a very charming female voice was heard. "Hello!"
After waiting for a while, there was no response, so the receiver asked again uncertainly, "Hello?"
This was the first time Emmeline heard that inimitable voice after she was released from prison. At that moment, she could felt that her fingers were slightly trembling.
Secretly, she took a deep breath and made sure she sounded calm enough before responding. "Caden."
The person on the other end of the phone was stunned for a moment, then her tone suddenly turned cold. "Who are you?"
A smile appeared at the corner of Emmeline's lips as she felt Caden's nervousness. Oddly, Emmeline calmed down all of a sudden and said slowly, "It doesn't matter who I am. I have a job for you. I wonder if you have time these two days?"
"Just say it!"
"Tomorrow morning, ten o'clock, at Eclor. Help me steal a body."
"Puff—" When Emmeline finished her words, Caden seemed to chocked on her water upon hearing the request. After a while, she scoffed and replied, "An ancient corpse? I don't do this kind of job!"
"Four hundred thousand!" Emmeline said firmly.
"Er... Actually, since it's just a corpse, there's nothing to worry about. Okay! Deal!"
"Okay. In that case, I'll send you the address and photos later."
"Ok!"
After hanging up the phone, Emmeline looked at the screen that dimmed down, and a helpless smile appeared on her lips. Then, she went to the bed and picked up the computer to edit the photos, address, and other details before sending it to Caden.
Ding! The phone rang ten minutes later and it was Caden.
"What the hell! So it's not an ancient corpse?! The riches really have nothing to do, huh!"
Hearing that, Emmeline smiled bitterly. She recalled the days when they used to work together a lot, but they had never seen each other before because of their unique identities. Now she actually needed Caden's help to retrieve a body. Without a doubt, there were things in the world that were really wonderful.
Immediately, she typed the message and sent it back, "It's not an ancient corpse. Four hundred thousand is already a bargain for you."
Then, Caden replied to the text with a sticker of sh*t.
When she woke up the next day, it was already nine o'clock in the morning. Looking at the scorching sun outside the window, Emmeline stretched lazily on the bed and didn't want to get up.
In the past, she had spent her life in a state of restlessness. The Salvation Club was very busy, and she was even more so. Not to mention staying in bed, sometimes it was completely normal for her to not sleep for three to four days. To indulge herself in waking up anytime she wanted like her life now? It was literally a dream!
While she opened her sleepy eyes, she smiled slightly, and all of a sudden she that this kind of life was actually quite good. At least it was easy and comfortable enough.
But regardless of what she was thinking, she remembered what she had to do today, so she got up quickly and went to the bathroom to wash up.
As soon as she started brushing her teeth, she suddenly realized that something was wrong.
Who drew the curtains? She had clearly remembered that she did pull them up last night.
Just when she was frowning, the door of the room was suddenly opened with a click, then she saw Yunne coming into the room cautiously with a small bowl in her hand.
Yunne was a maid that Uncle Poick had specially assigned to Emmeline. Although she was young, she was very obedient.
Through the glass door, Emmeline squinted her eyes and watched while Yunne placed the bowl on the bedside cabinet. When she turned around and saw the bed that was in a mess, she was stunned.
"Eh? Where is she?"
Surprised, Yunne pulled the blanket, and suddenly she heard a voice.
"What are you doing?"
Because the servants were not friendly to Emmeline when she arrived that afternoon, she had never liked them. Since Emmeline didn't usually go out, and Yunne usually stayed in the kitchen when Emmeline had dinner, so she literally had a higher chance of bumping into Kayla than Yunne.
What were they up to today? Emmeline glanced at the soup bowl on the bedside cabinet as she walked out of the bathroom.
"I-I..." Turning around and seeing her cold expression, Yunne blushed and lowered her head awkwardly. After a while, she stuttered. "It was Mr. Holland who asked me to bring you soup."
"Jara?" Surprised, Emmeline raised her eyebrows. "He hasn't gone out yet?"
"It's the weekend today. Mr. Holland had made an appointment with Mr. Mills to play golf, so he didn't go to the company."
While Emmeline was pondering, she stared at Yunne for a long time before replying in a soft tone, "Did you pull open the curtain?"
In response, Yunne smiled shyly. "It's Mr. holland's order. Seeing that you haven't got up yet, he told me to come up and open the window. He also said that if you're awake, you should go down as soon as possible. Mr. Mills and the others have all arrived."
Based on what Yunne said, did that mean Jara would like Emmeline to join his and his friends to play golf too? Confused, Emmeline knitted her brows as she waved to Yunne and said, "Okay. Tell him that I'll come down as soon as I change my clothes."
Then, she shooed Yunne, who had planned to say a few more words, out of the room and shutting the door in a 'bang.'
As Emmeline walked to the closet, she looked at the clothes here that Jara had probably ordered someone to prepared in advance, and there were all kinds of styles. After going over the clothes, she finally chose a light gray casual outfit, and immediately put it on. Then, she took out her mobile phone to send Caden a message.
"When will it arrive?"
In 30 seconds, Caden replied swiftly, "Eight in the evening."
Slightly raising her eyebrows, Emmeline fell silent for a while. Then, she put the phone back in her pocket, as she opened the door and went out.
