Chapter 598 Unfair to Ourselves

Evelyn was extremely surprised.
After all, she knew Anthony's assistant. His name was Gick Berret and he was a boy from the north.
But she didn't expect a man could broil soup.
Feeling a little embarrassed at the offer, Evelyn wanted to reject but Anthony didn't even give her the chance.
At the same time, the director shouted for him and after he responded, he instantly stood up and told Evelyn, "I'm going ahead to film now. Let's talk more during lunch later."
After that, he left in a hurry.
With her mouth opened, she had prepared her rejection speech but it never got said. In the end, she had no choice but to forget about it.
At noon, Gick actually brought her a bowl of tonic soup in a warmer.
Gick was young and looked to be no more than twenty years old. He was very handsome and had a sweet mouth. Usually, he liked to address his elders politely whenever he talked to them.
So, everyone in the crew liked him.
But for some reason, she had this feeling that Gick seemed to be different from before when he looked at her today.
She had this feeling that… there was this inexplicable attentiveness and enthusiasm behind his actions today.
He was as passionate as an orphan meeting his mother.
Despite being a little bit confused, Evelyn didn't feel comfortable asking more about it so she just accepted the soup.
It didn't take long before Anthony ran over to her with a small stool.
"Evelyn."
Seeing how happy he looked, she had a weird feeling in her heart.
With a casual look on her face, she just asked, "Are you done?"
"Yeah, I'm starving. By the way, did you get the soup?"
Evelyn nodded and pointed to the blue thermos next to her. "I haven't had time to drink it, but it smells good."
When Anthony heard this, there was a weird smile on his face as he said, "Then you'd better hurry and have a taste. Let me tell you, the reason why I chose Gick as my assistant was because I heard that he cooked very well and broiled very delicious soups. After all, you know, as actors, we have to pay attention to our diet. But if we couldn't have something nice with the small amount that we could eat, wouldn't we be too unfair to ourselves?"
Evelyn didn't know what to say. All she could do was to smile dryly and nod frequently.
"You're right."
"So, taste it. Come on, I'll help you."
"No, it's alright. I'll do it by myself."
"Don't mention it."
Without caring for what she had to say, Anthony grabbed the thermos and poured her a bowl.
Then, he delivered it politely to her with both hands and looked at her with anticipation. "Here, have a try."
With an awkward smile on her face, Evelyn really didn't feel comfortable being treated with so much affection yet she was too shy to reject his kind offer.
So, she could only accept it and tried it.
To be honest, the soup tasted really good.
It was refreshing but not oily and it had a sweet aftertaste to it. It definitely tasted like something a top chef would cook up.
From the moment she began to drink the soup, Anthony had been staring at her with eager eyes.
After she finished, he quickly asked, "How does it taste?"
Evelyn nodded. "Good, it's delicious."
"Right?" Anthony smiled happily. "I told you that Gick's cooking was good."
This compliment from Evelyn was not a lie. She was just stating facts as it was.
Unexpectedly, after that, she heard Anthony say, "Since you like it, I'll get him to make it for you every day."
Upon hearing that, Evelyn didn't know what to say.
At that moment, a smile froze on her face as she looked at Anthony awkwardly and smiled. "That… that won't be necessary!"
"What's wrong with that? Don't worry, I don't let him do much everyday anyway. I just ask him to cook so he has it easy compared to other assistants. Besides, you're so skinny. I'm sure you are lacking a lot of nutrients. It's important to keep healthy, you know?"
If Evelyn still hadn't noticed anything by now, there must be something wrong with her.
Suddenly, she massaged her temples and sighed, "Anthony."
"Yes?"
At this moment, Anthony was looking at her with widened eyes.
The moment she looked up, she saw these anticipating eyes and all those cruel words that she initially wanted to say just went back down were it came from and she couldn't say a word of it.
After a while, she just waved her hand feebly. "It's nothing. Let's eat."
Just then, Anthony's lips parted into a smile. "Okay."
They didn't manage to have a very happy meal. Instead, it was just a very awkward meal.
The whole time they were eating, Anthony was very affectionate to her, as if he was so afraid that she wouldn't be able to feel it.
As for Evelyn, she did feel it, but it was just too much.
It felt to her like he thought of her as incompetent and he was babying her.
He would help her with the soup and help her with her rice from time to time. This not only made Evelyn uncomfortable, even Carrie felt uncomfortable just from seeing it happen before her eyes.
After lunch, Anthony had even wanted to ask someone to buy her a drink but he was stopped by Evelyn just in time.
"It's okay, Anthony. I… I have something to tell you."
After looking back at her, Anthony still didn't sense what was coming and just blankly asked, "What's wrong, Evelyn?"
When Evelyn heard him calling her that, her head started aching.
She forced a smile and said, "Let's talk somewhere else."
That was when Anthony realized that there was something going on with her.
So, he nodded and followed her. Then, he was led by Evelyn to an unoccupied lounge.
After they went in, the door of the lounge closed behind them.
Meanwhile, Gick and Carrie were left outside.
They were in the lounge for quite a while and nobody knew what Evelyn said to Anthony or what Anthony said to Evelyn.
Finally, when they emerged from the lounge again, half an hour had passed.
Anthony didn't look like he was feeling too well so an easy guess would tell you he got rejected after mustering up the courage to confess his feelings to a girl.
It could even be said that she probably told him it was impossible for the both of them or something like that. Any one of these scenarios would probably not make it easy for a man to not feel this way.
Meanwhile, Evelyn came out looking like she just breathed a sigh of relief.
After Carrie approached them, she couldn't help but to catch a glance at Anthony and asked Evelyn softly, "Is Anthony alright, Evelyn?"
With a mildly pale look on her face, Evelyn said, "He's fine."
After all, it was better to know that something was impossible as soon as possible.
Because then, it wouldn't waste another person's time and burden yourself in the process.
She knew that Anthony was a good person, a friend of Clarissa's, and Anderson's cousin.
She didn't want anything unhappy to happen between them and affect his relationship with Clarissa.
That was why she decided that it was the best option to make it clear right now.
