Chapter 506 Being Targeted

If Evelyn remembered correctly, these people were already all those who needed to attend this banquet in the entire filming crew, right?
So she was the last one to arrive?
Evelyn carefully recalled the time Marissa told her and looked at the time on her wristwatch.
Evelyn was sure that according to Marissa's reminder to her, she was not late and even arrived half an hour in advance.
Then what the heck was going on?
She had a bad feeling about it.
Evelyn's heart sank slightly, but the corners of her mouth were wearing the same polite but apologetic smile. She covered her chest and bowed slightly to apologize. "The traffic is quite heavy today, so I'm a little late. Please forgive me."
From the moment Evelyn entered the private room, Wes, who was sitting at the head seat, stopped talking and laughing with others and looked at Evelyn with a sullen face.
However, judging from Evelyn's appearance, the first impression she gave off was that she was a shrewd little girl. There was a hint of righteousness between her brows and she didn't seem like someone who could stir up trouble. No matter how Wes sized her up, he didn't think that Evelyn was as terrible as Melodie had alluded to him.
But how could one judge a book by its cover in show business?
This consensus made Wes furious at how Evelyn had failed to live up his expectations.
How could this little girl be so disrespectful and demeaning to herself? Why did she choose to rely on the sponsors to land the role instead of focusing to be on a good actress? This was not the right path to do things!
At the thought of this, Wes's facial expression grew darker, so much so that everyone at the table could sense his displeasure.
Everyone was nudging each other. In the end, they all stopped talking and looked at Wes in silence.
Evelyn also noticed the strange way Wes was looking at her.
When did she offend Wes?
Confused, Evelyn began to ponder.
In the short span of a few seconds, Evelyn quickly jogged her memory about her own network.
Was it the previous grand industry party? It was impossible. She did not see Wes at that party.
But other than that, she had no chance to get in touch with Wes, a director of his generation.
Thinking of this, Evelyn became even more confused, and she even showed a little confusion on her face.
Wes, of course, noticed the change in Evelyn's expression. To be exact, he had been paying attention to Evelyn's reaction.
When he saw the confusion in Evelyn's eyes, Wes felt anger curled hot in his guts.
"Heh, don't you remember what you've done? Or are there too many transactions of similar nature? Could it be that the girls nowadays have no self-respect to this extent?"
At the thought of this, Wes felt like he had made an extremely stupid decision.
Perhaps he shouldn't have agreed to the request of the sponsors to cast her as the lead actress based on Evelyn's satisfactory past achievements.
Wes was unhappy, and he wanted to make sure Evelyn felt the same.
"Miss Hussain, if you think you are so important that you can let the entire crew wait for your arrival at the banquet, you can leave now."
Evelyn was stunned by Wes who had lashed out, and was at a loss for what to do.
She really didn't know how she had offended Wes.
Helplessly, Evelyn had no choice but to apologize and admit her mistake.
She clutched her chest and made a 90-degree bow. Everyone at the table could vaguely see her guilt-filled expression and closed eyes. "I'm sorry, Wes. I didn't expect that the traffic would be so heavy today, so I've been delayed on the road for so long that I've delayed everyone's time. I hope everyone could forgive me for my mistake."
Wes looked at Evelyn indifferently, and his voice was frighteningly cold. "How dare we give our forgiveness to you, your grace?"
An awkward look flashed across Evelyn's eyes, and she didn't know what to say at the moment.
Everyone was surprised by what Wes had done to Evelyn.
Everyone looked at each other and didn't know what to say at the moment.
But there were also some people who were thinking about how to interact with Evelyn later.
After all, it was a foregone conclusion that Wes despised Evelyn.
It was not strange for people in show business to be snobs.
Evelyn straightened her back awkwardly and looked at Wes with some embarrassment. "Wes, I'm really sorry that I'm late. I really hope that you can forgive me."
Wes looked at Evelyn with a sneer. "You know well what to do in your heart."
Evelyn's body trembled, but she didn't say anything after all.
She couldn't say anything anymore right now. Otherwise, she would just make things worse.
In the face of Evelyn's silence, a trace of contempt flashed in Wes's eyes.
In his opinion, Evelyn was a person with no self-respect. As for others, it didn't matter anymore.
Wes, who had come to a conclusion in his heart, looked at Evelyn with disdain in his eyes, and even his tone sounded really disrespectful.
During the dinner, Wes had made some sarcastic remarks towards Evelyn more than once. At first, Evelyn was still able to retain her composure but later, her face became stiffened as time went by.
But in the end, Evelyn did not have the courage to really go against Wes, the director of the series.
She couldn't afford to take this risk.
After all, Pieces of Mountain and River was such a popular and important screenplay, so much so that if she was kicked out of the crew after being accused of being big-headed, she might not be able to take up a role in a series of a similar quality as this series, or something lesser.
This would undoubtedly be a huge blow to Evelyn.
So, Evelyn forced herself to brace up and kept the conversations going.
Even though she had truly felt wronged, she was also very angry.
But Wes didn't know Evelyn's forbearance.
In his opinion, Evelyn was a woman who was socially dynamic and easygoing. She was even playing hard to get.
If it weren't for the fact that Wes didn't like this kind of woman, he would even suspect that Evelyn would have thrown herself at him.
Evelyn was clueless about Wes's malicious speculation at this moment.
If she knew, she would not have stayed in this crew no matter what.
She would choose to leave without hesitation and then tell Marissa that she would not take up the role.
After the banquet was over, Evelyn went back to her apartment with an ashen face.
She kept repeating this in her heart. If it wasn't for the fact that Wes's fine reputation and she really needed this job, she really wouldn't be able to stand it anymore.
After removing her makeup, Evelyn looked at herself, who was a little bit haggard in the mirror, and felt a little absent-minded.
She didn't know why she ended up being like how she was today.
Was it because of her mother? It was not the complete reason, wasn't it?
Was it because of her adopted father? She always felt that there was something missing.
Then what was the real reason?
Evelyn didn't know.
In the end, Evelyn was so sleepy that she didn't have time to think about it. She then went to her bed groggily and dozed off immediately.
