Chapter 550 Found The Truth
Evelyn's facial expression changed when she saw that. She quickly reached out to pat her back to help with her breathing.
"Mom, don't be angry. He didn't come to find me. I'm serious."
After saying that, she looked at Iris earnestly. Seeing this, Iris finally believed that Evelyn was not lying.
Evelyn chatted with Iris until she felt tired before helping her to lie down and rest.
It was not until Iris fell asleep that Evelyn left the ward.
After coming out of the ward, Evelyn went straight to Iris's attending doctor's office.
The attending doctor's surname was Lee. He was the best cardiologist in the entire hospital.
Because Doctor Lee knew who Evelyn was, he had been paying extra attention to Iris's condition.
Seeing her coming in, Dr. Huang smiled gently and said, "You are here. Have a seat."
Evelyn nodded and frowned.
"Doctor Lee, you called me before and told me that Iris's condition worsened. What happened?"
Doctor Lee waved his hand, gesturing at her not to worry. He then took out an electrocardiogram from the folder next to her and placed it in front of her.
Only then did he earnestly say, "Iris's condition is nothing new. After all these years, I believe you understand very well that her heart is close to failing. Therefore, if she is unable to find a suitable heat donor within half a year, she probably won't be able to make it."
These words caused Evelyn's heart to shudder.
She hurriedly said, "Doctor Lee, I've been looking for a heart donor all this while. Can you give me more time?"
Because Iris's blood type was Rh-negative, a rare blood type, it was even more difficult to find a matching donor.
Because of this, even if Evelyn was now an A-list actress and had enough to cover all the expenses of Iris's treatment, there was still no way to cure Iris.
After all, there were so many other people on the waiting list for heart transplants. It would be difficult to find a donor within half a year due to its scarcity.
Doctor Lee also understood this. He sighed and shook his head.
"I can only say that we will try our best, but I can't guarantee anything. The most important thing is that you should work hard on looking for it."
Hearing this, Evelyn knew that the doctor had done his best and there was no other way. She sat down disappointedly and nodded.
"I know. Don't worry. I will try my best to find it. I hope you will take care of Iris for the time being."
After a pause, she said, "And can you not tell her about it?"
Doctor Lee nodded and said, "Don't worry. I know what I'm doing."
At this point, she basically knew everything she wanted to know.
It was only then that Evelyn stood up, bid farewell to the doctor, and left.
After coming out of the hospital, Evelyn went home directly.
When she sat at home, she only felt that the whole house was empty, and her heart too.
For so many years, she had been seeking medical help everywhere for her sick mother, but in the end, would all her effort go down the drain?
Thinking of this, she took out her mobile phone and called the organ transplant team. As expected, there were too many people on the waiting list. Although Iris had been on the waiting list a few years ago, it was difficult to a suitable donor of the same blood type.
Evelyn had no choice but to hang up the phone.
At this moment, her phone rang.
She looked at the caller ID and felt her heart tighten.
After a while, she finally picked it up.
Pretending to sound she was alright, Evelyn said with a smile, "Mom, you are awake."
Iris fell asleep in a daze, but she didn't sleep well.
When she woke up, she found that Evelyn was not around, so she made a phone call to ask.
Evelyn clenched her fingers and said with a gentle smile, "I saw you were asleep, and I had to an urgent to attend to, so I left."
On the other side of the line, Iris had guessed that Evelyn had something to do. Nevertheless, she called to make sure that Evelyn was alright.
Upon hearing that, she quickly said, "Oh, it's okay. Go ahead and get busy."
Evelyn hummed and said, "Mom, take good care of yourself. I'll come to see you next time."
Iris smiled and said, "I'm all right. You should take care of yourself too. You can come over at any time when you're free."
Evelyn nodded and exchanged a few more words before hanging up.
That very night.
Marty was still working overtime in the company. Aria came in with a document and put it on his desk with a poker face.
"Mr. Blaine, I've done with the investigation you asked me to do. This is the information you want."
Marty glanced at the thick stack of documents and waved at him in dismissal. "I got it. You may leave."
Aria turned around and left.
There was dead silence in the office. Marty didn't straighten his back until he finished his work. He leaned back in the chair and pinched the gap between his eyebrows before his gaze fell on the stack of documents.
He reached and picked up the materials.
It was all about the things that had happened to Evelyn over the past ten years when they had driven apart.
Including how Iris had fallen ill and how Forbos had hurt the mother-daughter pair.
The more Marty looked at it, the glummer his expression was.
If it wasn't for this document, he almost couldn't believe that Evelyn had lived such a life in the past few years.
Just looking at the words on it, he was already unable to take it. He only felt rage well up in his chest, like a volcano threatening to erupt despite not being the one who had personally experienced it.
He couldn't imagine how Evelyn managed to survive through all these years.
And what right did Forbos, who was willing to do anything for money, have to bully and abuse her like this?
Marty's face was glum, and he remained silent for a long time. Then he made a phone call to Aria and instructed, "Help me with something tomorrow..."
The next day.
Evelyn's manager, Marissa, suddenly informed Evelyn that she had taken up a new role for Evelyn.
This series was a period thriller drama based on a popular novel.
The male protagonist was the prince of the present dynasty who was played by Anthony Perry, a new rising star in the entertainment circle, while the female protagonist was an orphan who survived the massacre of her family.
