Chapter 980 The Distance Between Two Hearts

In the past, she didn't know that Sierra was in Flaucford. Now that she knew, how could she let her mother stay in someone else's place?
Thus, she held Sierra's hand and whispered, "Mom, if you don't mind, why don't you come and stay in our house for the next few days?"
Upon hearing her suggestion, Sierra was a little puzzled. "Why would I live at your house?"
With a smile, Clarissa said, "Well, I am your daughter after all. Since you've come to the city I live in, shouldn't you stay at my house?"
Sierra was confused. Although she understood what Clarissa meant, she was a bit indecisive.
On the other hand, Robert frowned.
Then, he uttered, "That's not necessary. I know both of you are doing this out of goodwill, but Sierra hasn't fully recovered, and she's already used to living here. If we keep changing her environment, it'll affect her emotions negatively."
Hearing that, Clarissa was dumbstruck. She didn't quite understand what he meant.
"But isn't this Mr. Jenkins's manor? Why wouldn't her mood get affected here?"
Robert's frown deepened. Even so, he respected her as Sierra's daughter, so he patiently explained, "Although this is Mr. Jenkins's manor, he gave us a small courtyard to live in. Besides, he usually won't disturb us during our stay here. As your family is rich, powerful, and complicated, I'm afraid that Sierra won't get used to it. So, let's forget it."
When Clarissa heard that, a cloud came over her face.
"Mr. Lane, I think there's some misunderstanding here. Although our family is influential, we are not complicated, and..."
With a pause, she looked at Sierra and added, "Mom, actually I have two children, and I am pregnant with a third child. Don't you want to see your grandchildren?"
What Clarissa said surprised Sierra. She realized that this was good news.
At once, she beamed, and her eyes fell on Clarissa's belly.
"You are pregnant? Congratulations! I am happy for you, but I..."
After forcing a smile, she refused, "I don't want to go. Clarissa, why don't we... forget it? As for my grandkids, I will visit them next time. Is that alright?"
Hearing that, Clarissa slightly furrowed her brows.
She knew that Sierra would turn her down, but she didn't understand why.
With her lips pursed, she sighed, "Well, since you insist, I won't force you."
As she spoke, she handed Sierra her handbag.
"I will see you off here then. Tomorrow morning, I'll come again and pick you up."
To that, Sierra nodded and told Clarissa to drive carefully. Then, she turned around and walked into the manor with Robert.
For a while, Clarissa and Anderson stood there and watched as their figures disappeared into the manor. After that, they left.
On their way home, Clarissa was as quiet as a mouse.
After realizing that, Anderson held her hand and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm thinking about my mom's condition. How could she recover?" Clarissa uttered.
Upon hearing what she said, Anderson raised his eyebrows.
"What do you mean? Didn't you say that you wouldn't force her to think of the past?"
Clarissa sighed.
"I never want her to recall the past, and I think she's doing great now, but don't you think that she is only happy on the outside? Actually, her mental state is in a bad state."
As she spoke, she recalled the details from the time she spent with Sierra. "When she was speaking to us, her eyes kept looking away. This showed that she was guilty and afraid. Furthermore, she dislikes interacting with strangers. As long as a stranger approaches her, she will subconsciously retreat and tremble with fear."
"I know that these are all the after-effects of the car accident. Even so, do you think that she can be sincerely happy while living with fear and insecurity?"
Anderson fell silent.
Then, Clarissa shook her head and sighed, "I somehow feel that her current happiness is like an attic in the air. It is so fragile that it may collapse at any time, and when that day comes, she would be ruined."
Suddenly, the back of her hand felt warm.
Looking down at her hand, she saw Anderson's hand was grabbing hers.
In a deep voice, Anderson suggested, "Let's get her out of this fear."
Surprised, Clarissa tilted her head to look at him and chuckled.
"Okay, let's do it."
With that, they looked at each other and smiled. At the same time, the car sped down the road to Jordan Group.
The two of them returned to the company and had a busy afternoon. At dusk, they returned to Starbay Villa.
Due to her reunion with Sierra, Clarissa was in high spirits for the whole day.
Upon reaching home, she played with her children for a while before receiving a phone call from Chantel.
On the other side of the phone, Chantel chirped.
"Clarissa, I heard that you've agreed to collaborate with Mr. Jenkins."
After hearing that, Clarissa smiled. "Didn't I tell you about this? Why are you still so surprised?"
"What you told me last time was only a verbal promise. Who knows if you would change your mind? But since you have accepted his offer, everything is settled then. Otherwise, words might spread that the president of Energence International Crop breaks her promise, and you will be a laughing stock," Chantel jested.
Listening to her elated tone, Clarissa smiled helplessly.
Just then, Chantel changed the subject. "By the way, how are things going between you and Miss Campos?"
Clarissa paused and asked warily, "Why are you asking this?"
To that, Chantel giggled, "I'm just concerned about you. You're my niece-in-law, after all."
After Clarissa pursed her lips, she uttered, "She doesn't repel me anymore, but she still couldn't remember me. Aunt Chantel, can you please keep this a secret?"
For a few seconds, Chantel stayed quiet.
Then, she awkwardly murmured, "Sure. Don't worry. I don't have a big mouth."
Hearing that, Clarissa twitched the corners of her mouth. She thought if Chantel didn't have a big mouth, then no one else would have one.
However, since Chantel already knew about it, she couldn't hide it even if she wanted to.
Hence, the only thing she could do was to urge Chantel not to tell anyone. As for whether Chantel would keep her secret safe, it was beyond her control.
Later, she told Chantel the time to depart to Ashax Country and the things needed to prepare. After that, she hung up the phone.
