Chapter 1058 Make A Deal
He could have told her directly if he truly knew everything, but he didn't.
Instead, he let her investigate with no results despite all of her efforts.
Why was that so?
Clarissa was certain that Anderson would not harm her. The truth, on the other hand, made her scared to find out.
She hesitated in her heart for a while. In the end, she decided that she would believe Anderson no matter what.
Regardless of what Coby said, his goal was to foment discord between her and Anderson.
Since that was the case, she would not allow him to succeed.
Anderson, on the other hand, had no idea what had happened.
The first thing he did when he arrived in Eflium was to search the villa where Coby stayed in.
However, it was clear that the other party had been informed beforehand. The villa was already vacant when they arrived.
Anderson ordered his men to search the entire villa, but they didn't find any clues.
Then, he went up to the second floor with a gloomy face.
As soon as he entered the bedroom, he saw the iron chain scattered on the ground.
Behind it was a bed. Without thinking, one could tell what it was used for.
His expression grew more sullen after seeing this.
Jara accompanied him, and his countenance was not particularly good too at the moment.
However, it was uncertain whether Clarissa and Sierra were still alive as they had only seen the place.
It would be pointless for him to talk too much because it would simply agitate Anderson.
As a result, Jara remained silent and directed his men to conduct a thorough search of the entire room.
"I saw some unfinished breakfast in the kitchen downstairs, and the water in the pot is still hot. It means that they have just left. I've already given orders for people to go after them. I believe there will be a result soon."
Upon hearing this, Anderson nodded.
He was a courageous man. Clarissa had been missing for two days, and there was still no news about her whereabouts.
Coby had caught her. Although he had a chance to leave, he did not. Instead, he spent a night here. Thus, Anderson knew Coby was waiting for them without having to think about it.
Although he didn't know Coby's purpose, it was certain that Clarissa was still alive.
Otherwise, Coby wouldn't have a bargaining chip to threaten Anderson, and the operation would have been in vain.
In fact, Anderson tried his best not to think about it. Clarissa was currently in his hands, and he had no idea if she had suffered any harm even though she was still alive.
In addition, he wasn't sure if the child in her belly was frightened or not.
He was desperately trying to restrain himself with rationality. For the time being, he didn't want to let his mind go wild. He believed that, based on Clarissa's intelligence, she would be able to protect herself in a dangerous situation while waiting for his rescue.
Just then, something caught his attention.
Someone had thrown a handkerchief in the corner. It didn't appear to be Clarissa's but Sierra's, judging from its color.
When he bent down to pick it up, he discovered two words scrawled on the handkerchief: we're safe.
Although the handwriting was sloppy, it was Clarissa's handwriting.
He felt a jolt in his heart, and his restless mood was slightly relieved.
"They're fine for the time being."
Jara nodded as he saw the words on the handkerchief.
"Yes. Coby's goal isn't to kill. If Clarissa and Sierra die, it's not good for him. I get a hunch he's getting ready to do something."
Anderson felt the same way he did.
"Let's not get too worked up about it. Have you found the map of this area?"
"Yes."
Jara waved his hand, and one of his men strode forward, holding a map.
He took it and opened it at the table next to him. Then, he added in a low voice, "Look, the city is facing two seas. The first is a desert, whereas the second is linked to Karc. Coby certainly can't go back to Karc with his men. If he really does return, he'll be caught in no time. As for the desert, it is the largest in the vicinity. He surely won't head there if he isn't insane. As a result, the only option was to head to the sea.
Hearing this, Anderson drew his brows together and studied the map intently.
In the end, he also came to the same conclusion as Jara.
"If that's the case, I'll order my men to get the ships ready to go out to sea right away."
"Alright."
Anderson was now busy putting things in order.
On the other side, Clarissa was brought in front of Coby.
This was a luxurious room. Clarissa secretly studied the route when she was taken here and discovered that it was on the third floor of the cruise ship, which should have been a presidential suite.
Coby sat behind a low table in the living room, dressed in a long white robe.
The sun shone through the window next to him, casting a subtle glow across his body. At that moment, he looked like a gentleman.
Everything Coby did was obviously evil.
However, Clarissa rarely saw the evil temperament in him, and most of the time, his eyes were calm as water, with a gentle grin.
If it weren't for the fact that she had known him before and knew that he wasn't a good person, she might easily be fooled by his appearance.
Thinking of this, Clarissa pursed her lips and walked over.
"You're here, Miss Chapman. Have a seat."
He then motioned Clarissa to take a seat on the futon across from him.
Staring at the futon by her feet, Clarissa frowned slightly.
She couldn't tell if it was her imagination or not. Most of the time, she thought Coby's words and actions were strange.
For example, he was young yet always dressed in old-fashioned clothing.
Moreover, who would still use a futon nowadays?
Wouldn't he feel uncomfortable with his feet folded?
However, she didn't raise the questions she had in her head.
After Clarissa sat down, Coby poured her a cup of tea and placed it in front of her.
With a gentle smile on his face, he chuckled and said, "This is a new local tea that I bought recently. Miss Chapman, please have a sip and see if it's different from the tea in Ascijan."
Clarissa examined the cup resting on the table. The bright yellow tea was enveloped by mist inside the white jade cup, like a deluding poison.
She sneered and looked up, staring straight at Coby.
"I'm not going to drink the tea. Mr. Marsh, I came because you said you'd make a deal with me. Shouldn't you keep your words?"
Although she didn't taste the tea, Coby didn't mind.
He took the cup in front of him, shook his head, and gently blew on it. Then he took a sip while raising his hand to cover his face.
Clarissa sat on the opposite side and thought to herself.
"Anyone who didn't know him would think he time-traveled from the past with this manners!"
