Chapter 681 Something Going On
After the previous incident, Marty was already aware of Sue's special relationship with his parents. Hence, he felt that they shouldn't meet right now.
However, Marty was puzzled when he saw Charlotte and Sue sitting together as if they were very close buddies.
Charlotte pursed her lips and did not respond.
Sue didn't know how to answer, so she explained, "I came to talk to Charlotte today. Then, I learned about the chairman's accident and decided to follow her."
At this time, she deliberately referred to Buckley as the chairman rather than his name.
This was because Marty only knew that she had something going on with Charlotte and Buckley.
He was a little hazy on the details.
Sue had no intention of interrupting their lives, and as a result, she never considered telling Marty about their true relationship.
Upon hearing that, Marty nodded his head.
After all, he couldn't do anything at this moment.
He had no choice but to sit and wait alongside them.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed.
Marty took out his phone and glanced at the caller's contact. Immediately, he gave Charlotte a quick look.
Seeing that she didn't respond, Marty stood up, walked to the other side, and picked it up.
Evelyn was the one who called.
She inadvertently heard from the crew that a car accident occurred on the highway today.
In fact, she usually wouldn't pay attention to such news and just dismissed it as a casual chat.
However, a crew member happened to walk by today on their way to get something, and they snapped a photo of the scene.
Evelyn was also intrigued and went over to have a look. Immediately, she was taken aback at first glance.
In the photo, the car had already been badly damaged. However, she could still recognize the car and its license plate number.
The Blaines family owned a lot of cars, so it was difficult to keep track of them. However, Evelyn recognized the car's license plate number since Marty had picked her up in it before they got together.
At that time, she thought it was Marty's car, so she subconsciously remembered it.
Later, she learned that it belonged to his father, and Marty only drove it for fun that day.
When Evelyn saw the photo, she realized how bad the situation was.
Right after, she called the staff to a corner, bought the photo in private, and paid her hush money.
Although the staff had no idea why Evelyn would buy the photo from her, she still agreed because she didn't want to offend Evelyn. Not only that but she was also offered money.
Then, Evelyn called Marty in a hurry.
After hearing everything she said on the phone in one breath, Marty responded calmly.
"Yes, Dad is involved in a car accident."
"Ah?" Evelyn exclaimed in shock. Every hope she had of remaining had been shattered in an instant.
She quickly inquired, "How is he now? Is it serious?"
"I don't know. He's still in the operation." Marty then paused for a moment and sighed. "The driver has passed away on the spot. Mom has sent someone to handle the driver's funeral and his family. As for Dad's situation, I guess it's uncertain until the operation is over."
Hearing this, Evelyn realized that things could be more serious than she expected.
She pressed her lips and said after a while, "Don't worry. Good things are said to happen to good people. Your Dad has done so much good and helped many people over the years. He will be blessed by God."
In fact, everybody knew that saying anything like this at the time was futile. It was merely words of consolation.
But in this situation, what else could one do except console?
In the face of life and death, the power of words had always been very minimal.
Evelyn didn't know much about medicine, and she didn't have the power to resurrect the dead. Therefore, there was nothing she could do.
Marty obviously understood this, so he said, "Well, he will be fine. Don't worry."
"Alright."
Evelyn agreed. She was now filming in another city and wouldn't be able to return promptly.
Moreover, with Charlotte's personality, she might not want to see Evelyn at this time.
In the end, she just said, "Keep me updated on the situation."
"Okay." Marty agreed without hesitation. "I'll call you when Dad comes out."
"Sure."
After that, she hung up the phone.
Then, Marty walked back with his phone in hand.
Charlotte glanced at him and asked with no expression on her face, "Is it that woman?"
Marty subconsciously frowned when he heard her words. However, he didn't want to argue with Charlotte at this time, so he just nodded.
"Well, at least she's concerned." Charlotte snorted softly.
Sue was completely unaware of Evelyn and Charlotte's disputes. When she saw this, she was intrigued and wondered, "Which woman is it? Is it Evelyn?"
However, Charlotte's expression abruptly changed as soon as Sue finished her sentence.
She turned around and stared at Sue in disbelief. "Oh, you both know each other?" Her voice had a touch of anger in it.
Sue was taken aback when she saw this. She was also perplexed as to what was going on. Hence, she asked in confusion, "Yes. What's wrong?"
Charlotte soon locked her enraged gaze on Marty.
Marty was very embarrassed.
Although Sue didn't understand what was going on, Marty did!
It was because Sue and Charlotte were clearly not on good terms, and Evelyn wasn't welcomed by Charlotte from the start.
In fact, Charlotte was still trying to accept Evelyn now. But at this moment, she discovered that Evelyn and Sue had known each other for a long time, but she was kept in the dark.
The feeling of being teased and betrayed was present, though it was a little inexplicable.
Marty had no other choice but to cough and utter, "Um... We ran into Miss Abel the last time we went out. We had a good conversation and became friends. We aren't as close as you think."
How could Charlotte believe him so easily?
After all, Sue seemed to be friendly on the surface, but she was above her head. How would she make friends with just anyone?
As a result, Charlotte was enraged all of a sudden.
She glared at Marty and sneered, "You are really something! Are you guys planning to keep me in the dark? Why don't you tell me when you've all met before?"
When Marty saw that she was furious, he couldn't help but feel helpless. "You didn't ask us either," he said in a low voice.
Charlotte paused for a moment before exclaiming, "You—!"
