Chapter 921 Proposing To Her

The picture formed by the drones showed Emmeline and Jara had grown up. Jara left the orphanage while Emmeline remained.
Softly, Jara continued, "Teenage love was filled with twists and turns. When we were growing up, we can be carefree and cast all worries aside. But, when we have grown up, there are responsibilities and things that must be taken care of."
"The time had come for him to leave where they grew up together. On the day he left, he told her to look for him if she misses him."
"He knew that she was stubborn and independent although she appeared to be dependent on him. In his heart, he knew that she may never look for him."
"How could she be willing to be a parasite and depend on him? He knew that she wouldn't. Then, he vowed to give himself two years to do what he wanted to do and return to her side."
When Jara finished saying that, the lights turned again.
A new scene appeared.
It showed the time when they met again.
His voice was warm and pleasant. He continued his narration.
"However, the world was full of surprises. He thought that she would never look for him but she did."
"So, they met and fell in love. He was head over heels in love. Those were the happiest years of his life."
"But, there was always this thing on his mind. He wanted to protect those he loved, so he worked hard to strengthen himself in every way."
"But she had different ideas. She didn't need his protection, and she didn't want to live under his protection. She had the means to live a life of leisure and luxury. Instead, she chose to endangered herself time and again."
"He was angry and concerned. They fought each other over and over again. Finally, she was forced to leave him."
At this time, his voice became muted and faded.
The picture changed again, splashed with red all over with scenes of fighting.
Jara's voice was hoarse, filled with anguish and pain.
"Then, something unthinkable happened. They faced each other on opposite sides. Two persons who should be together in love were now at the opposite poles."
"He had discovered a terrible secret and had her close circle of friends all killed. In return, she wished him dead."
"What she didn't know was that her close circle of friends were all wolves in sheepskins."
"They were never her real friends. The happenings and goings-on were all calculated moves. But, he had no evidence and no way of proving to her."
"They went their own ways for four years. They wanted an amicable separation like a pair of star-crossed lovers destined to be apart forever."
"However, he didn't want to let go. He was like a man possessed and did all he could to make her stay. Every time he tried and everything he did, she responded with ferocity."
"He was afraid and didn't know what to do. He was afraid that he might hurt her unintentionally. At that time, he found out the real identity of her close circle of friends and knew that they were out to kill her."
"With internal and external forces closing in, the only safe place for her was the prison. In the prison, she would be guarded and protected from any attack."
The picture changed to the time Emmeline left prison.
"These four years, she lived within the sight of him and was kept safe. Although her feelings for him were eroded over the four years, he had no regrets."
"Once again, he tried to keep her by his side, hoping to pick up the pieces. He wished to tell her the truth about what had happened."
"Perhaps it was fate that their hearts grew closer after experiencing the calamitous events."
"Only then he realized that nothing could be better than for two people to be together."
Emmeline stood there in a transfixed state.
She stared at the picture above her, and her eyes turned red.
At this time, a low-pitched man came from behind.
"Emmeline, will you marry me?"
As she turned around, Emmeline almost collapsed.
Only then, she realized that Jara had come down and was standing behind her.
He was all dressed up in a black suit and kneeling on one knee. In his hand, he was holding a ring box with a large pink diamond staring at her.
Tears streamed down Emmeline's face as she was overcome with emotions.
Once again, Jara asked, "Emmeline, will you marry me?"
Not only was Emmeline touched. Standing not far away, the onlookers Clarissa and Lauren also felt like they went through the same experience and were emotional and moved.
Emmeline dawdled and did not answer.
After looking at Jara for a long while, she asked in a low voice, "Are you saying that you were protecting me during those four years?"
Jara nodded in reply, "Yes."
"You knew early on that they wanted to kill me?"
"Yes."
"Why do they want to kill me?"
There was no answer. Jara only looked at her mournfully.
With tears gushing freely down her cheeks, Emmeline shook her head violently and said,
"You always knew what's most important in my heart. You too knew, when we are together, there's a thorn in my heart. We shied from talking about this, but it's always there. Others may not know, but I do. Tell me, Jara, what happened back then?"
Moved by her tears, Jara heaved a sad sigh.
After a moment's reflection, he answered, "This had to do with your past. I only knew the tip of the iceberg and not everything. I don't know how to tell you."
This confused Emmeline further.
Emmeline continued to listen to his explanation, "I can only say that I'll never harm you. I beg you to marry me. Will you let me take care of and protect you for the rest of your life?"
It was so touching that Lauren and the others could not bear with it anymore.
They started clapping their hands and heckled Emmeline, "Marry him! Marry him!"
Emmeline gave them a look.
Once again, she looked at Jara kneeling on one knee. A pang of bitterness rose in her heart, and her tears started falling again.
Yet behind the bitterness, there was a hint of secret joy.
In the end, she stretched out her hand.
Her voice was barely audible to Jara, "I'd love to."
Joy spread through Jara's face.
Without a moment's delay, he put the ring on her finger, stood up, and held her in his arms.
He hugged her tightly, and his voice sounded hoarse.
