Chapter 949 Killing Two Birds With One Stone

Narrowing his eyes, Mr. Gill turned to look at her.
"What is it?"
Clarissa said in a low voice, "We won't force you to hand over the item now, but you'll have to follow our instructions and comply with our actions. We'll assist you in saving Lily. But after Lily returns, you must hand us Jade of Heaven, okay?"
Mr. Gill pursed his lips.
Anderson also agreed and said, "I promise to save Lily. Mr. Gill, we're in Ascijan. Who else do you think can save her if we can't? Furthermore, are you certain that when you give him the jade, he will really let go of Lily? If he doesn't, won't we lose both the goods and the people?"
It wasn't that Mr. Gill didn't understand what he was saying.
It was just because he didn't want to believe them previously and hoped they'd leave shortly. Now that he thought about it, this seemed to be the safest option.
"Are you sure you can save Lily?" he questioned, looking Anderson in the eyes.
"I swear on my life." Anderson had a solemn expression on his face.
"Okay, I'll believe you this time."
As he spoke, he suddenly stood up and walked out.
Everyone was taken aback and promptly followed up.
It was dark outdoors at this time. There wasn't even a street lamp, let alone a single person.
But Mr. Gill was walking on the winding mountain road as if it were flat ground. On the other hand, Clarissa and the others were unable to do so.
Anderson held Clarissa's hand while Jara grabbed Emmeline's. They hurried over and eventually caught up with him.
Just as they wondered where he was going, they saw him on a small slope. It was Madam Gill's grave.
Emmeline's expression changed.
"Why is he here again?"
Jara motioned for her not to speak. As they approached the slope, they noticed Mr. Gill seated in front of the grave, digging into something.
Seeing this, Clarissa shuddered violently and realized what was going on right away.
She then gave Anderson a push. "Go help him."
Anderson nodded and rolled up his sleeves. He went over and knelt to assist Mr. Gill in digging.
It wasn't a shallow hole. Furthermore, the soil was drier than usual due to the lack of rain, making it harder to dig with bare hands.
Therefore, Anderson stepped to the side, folded a tree branch the size of a wrist, squatted down, and dug.
About two minutes later, they finally dug it out.
It turned out to be a gray handkerchief.
Mr. Gill took out the handkerchief and opened it. Inside the handkerchief was actually Jade of Heaven!
Everyone was stunned.
In the low moonlight, Mr. Gill gazed at it and nodded. "Fortunately, I didn't lose it," he remarked with a smile.
"Mr. Gill, is this Jade of Heaven?" Clarissa's face lit up.
"Yes, it is," Mr. Gill glanced at her and replied.
He waved his hand and put his things away as he talked. "Let's go back and talk."
As a result, the group of people rushed back to the villa.
He returned inside the villa, shut the door, and invited them to have a seat. After sitting down, he took out Jade of Heaven and put it on the table, trembling.
"Since things have progressed to this stage, I won't keep it a secret from you all. Actually, I'd heard of Jade of Heaven long ago. I happened to see the news in the newspaper when other countries were making a fuss. Suddenly, I recall having something similar.
So I took it out, and what a coincidence it was. At that time, Lily hadn't been kidnapped. In fact, I didn't take the rumor outside seriously because I thought there was nothing special about the jade.
Later, I realized my health was deteriorating. Although I didn't believe the effects of the jade, others did.
Lily was young and innocent without much experience in society. I was worried that she would get into trouble as a result of this. Furthermore, people could give up everything for the jade.
This item, I believed, should be called a scourge rather than a divine object. It should not be allowed to remain in this world since it was a scourge. So I buried it quietly beside my wife's tomb in the middle of the night.
But I didn't expect anything to happen to Lily so soon. I actually knew Sean kidnapped her. However, I didn't want to have a falling out with Sean, Devon's son. Besides, if I actually report it to the police, I may end up in jail if the past events are examined.
Therefore, I thought about it all over. Since he wanted it so badly, why don't I hand it over? But what if he didn't let Lily go afterward?
As a result, I didn't dig it up. He asked me to meet him tonight. Originally, I planned to talk to him about it. I would tell him where the jade was buried as long as he was willing to let Lily go. If he didn't believe me, I'd trade myself for the hostage and personally take him there.
However, he did not bring Lily here today as promised. I'm not at ease, and I always have the feeling that something bad will happen. Now that you've agreed to assist me in saving her, I won't beat around the bush. I believe in you guys, so even though you haven't saved Lily yet, I'm willing to give it to you first. After all, if you lie to me, I'll have a way to get it back. Well, it's better than falling into Sean's hands."
After hearing what he had to say, they recognized that Mr. Gill was not as petty and weird as they had assumed.
All of his earlier hardships had just served to drive them away, leaving him to save his great-granddaughter.
Now, they hadn't saved Lily yet, but he had already shown his sincerity by handing it over.
Anderson then stood up and raised his hand to give him a respectful bow.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Gill. We misunderstood you before."
Mr. Gill laughed awkwardly as he waved his hand.
"Haha. There's no need for you to thank me. So, if Sean really hates me and wants to murder me, I will gladly offer him my life without hesitation. Lily, on the other hand, is completely innocent. She is only 18 years old. What did she do wrong? Does she really deserve to die in the hands of those thieves?"
Anderson gave a nod. "Yes, you're right. Miss Lily is innocent, which is why we will save her at whatever cost."
