Chapter 943 It's Not Here
He sneered, and a trace of mockery was visible on his face. "I never believed in such a thing. All I want is to live a happy and peaceful life. I don't want to think about anything else. I don't care about dying!"
As soon as he said this, Jara's face suddenly changed.
"Mr. Gill, do you mean you don't want to help us?" Clarissa questioned, frowning.
Mr. Gill took a look at her and said with a smile, "I really don't have what you want. I'll give you my life if you want it. I don't care."
"Do you think I don't dare to kill you?"
Before anyone could respond, Jara rushed up and grabbed his collar.
Everyone was shocked. "Jara, don't act rashly!" Emmeline snatched his arm and murmured.
However, Jara had already tolerated Mr. Gill for far too long. How could he still endure at this time?
Jara pulled a gun from his pocket and put it on his head. "Are you trying to challenge me?" he said, gnashing his teeth.
Seeing this, Mr. Gill only narrowed his eyes and looked at Jara.
Even at this time, his expression still did not change. He still looked like a dead pig who was not afraid of the boiling water, and there was even a mocking smile on his face.
"Do you want to kill me? Come on! If I die, you'll never get Jade of Heaven while your sweetheart waits to die! No one can save her! Haha."
He laughed maniacally. The veins on Jara's forehead throbbed. As he gazed at him, his black eyes were filled with rage. He couldn't wait to pull the trigger.
Clarissa's expression shifted when she saw the situation. She was afraid that Jara would really kill Mr. Gill in a fit of anger.
"Jara, don't mess around!" she exclaimed as she hurriedly went forward to halt Jara.
Emmeline tugged on Jara's sleeve as well, whispering, "He isn't afraid of dying. Threatening him won't work. Calm down."
Jara was still somewhat rational. After all, he didn't dare to make light of this because it was about Emmeline's life.
In the end, he slammed the gun down violently.
Then, Clarissa looked at Anderson, signaling that he should bring Jara out to calm down.
Anderson had a tacit understanding of her and intuitively knew what she was saying. He immediately took Jara with him and left.
After they had all left, Clarissa turned around and looked at Mr. Gill seriously.
Jara had already messed with Mr. Gill's collar. Thus, Mr. Gill was meticulously tidying himself up at this time. He was clearly old, yet he seemed to care a great deal about his appearance.
After tidying up his clothes, he gave a heavy snort and popped the cigarette into his mouth.
Clarissa whispered to Emmeline, indicating that she should go out too.
After Emmeline left, she raised her hand and took a lighter to light Mr. Gill's cigarette.
Seeing this, Mr. Gill stopped and looked up at her.
Clarissa appeared calm, with no trace of flattery or fury on her face.
With a sneer, he lowered his head and lit the cigarette with the lighter in her hand.
After lighting the cigarette, he took a deep breath and sat back in his chair comfortably. Then, he turned to Clarissa and said, "Don't expect me to be convinced just because you've stayed here and tried to please me. I've said that it's not with me. I'm not going to give it to you no matter what."
He made it clear that he intended to confront them to the end.
Upon hearing his words, Clarissa lowered her eyes and fell silent for a moment.
Then she uttered, "Well, we can't do anything about it if you really don't want to take it out. After all, it's yours. We can't possibly snatch it by force, can we?"
Speaking of this, she could not help but let out a self-mockery laugh.
"I only feel that you're acting rashly as if you're still young, though you've lived to this age. Your reckless behavior and disdain for the consequences proved that you had lived for 80 years in vain."
Hearing what she said, he widened his eyes and turned furiously to face her.
"What did you just say?"
Clarissa smiled and took a seat next to him. "Am I not right?"
"If I didn't guess wrong, the reason you don't want to take it out isn't that you purposely want to make things difficult for us, but rather because that thing hasn't been with you for a long time, right?" she said, letting out a giggle.
Mr. Gill's expression abruptly changed.
Clarissa chuckled again as she lowered her eyes.
"I heard your great-granddaughter went missing some time ago?"
At this point, Mr. Gill appeared to recognize that she was well prepared. He snuffed out his cigarette right away.
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'd like to point out that the item hasn't been with you for a long time, but it is with your great-granddaughter. Am I right?"
All of a sudden, his expression got very gloomy.
"Nonsense! She didn't bring anything with her when she left. It's even more impossible to give it to her!"
"Oh? But didn't she went missing out of nowhere? So how can you be sure she didn't bring anything with her?"
"I..."
Mr. Gill was oblivious to what was going on and was actually tricked by her. When he finally came to his senses, he realized she was trying to get news from him, and his face soon flushed with rage.
"Oh, you've got a lot of clever tricks up your sleeve, little girl! You remind me of my wife somehow, but you're too young to get information from me. You weren't even born when we accomplished so much. So, put your silly thoughts away as soon as possible. I won't be fooled."
Clarissa shook her head.
"I am not trying to trick you, nor am I trying to obtain information from you. Well, now that you refuse to give me anything, I no longer have to waste my time with you. But I believe some things in this world are neither right nor wrong.
"We want to get Jade of Heaven to save Emmeline while you want to protect your great-granddaughter. These are not at odds with one other. What do you think?"
Mr. Gill became glum as soon as she finished her sentence.
"I don't know what's going on with you that's causing your great-granddaughter to go missing so suddenly," Clarissa said, "but I do know that this has to do with Jade of Heavens. If I'm not wrong, she shouldn't have gone missing but rather is hiding on purpose. Someone must've told you that someone will come looking for this treasure or something else. That's why you've decided not to give it to us. Am I right?"
Afterward, Mr. Gill's face wore a puzzled expression.
He had not expected Clarissa to correctly guess an idea he had kept secret for so long.
