Chapter 760 Did She Hate Him?
And in front of everyone, Emmeline had accidentally killed the person Jara loved the most, Cassidy Micheal. She was the woman who broke into the prison earlier.
At that moment, the snow-white ground was stained with bright red blood.
With a grim expression, Jara just stood there and looked at her. Even though they were only three or four years apart, it seemed like there was a gap between them, and there was no way they could get close to each other again.
While looking into his eyes, Emmeline opened her mouth, trying to explain something.
However, Jara did not give her the chance.
Instead, he ordered his men to take hold of her.
At first, she thought that he would kill her.
But he didn't. He just imprisoned her in another place.
That time, she did not know what he was trying to do and what he was thinking about. She only understood that the gap between them was getting bigger and bigger as if it couldn't be amended anymore.
Thinking about that, she finally panicked.
She wanted to explain to him and tell him the truth.
The truth was, she did not steal the information, and whether he believed it or not, she did not kill Cassidy too. Besides, she didn't even know what was going on.
During that time, she did have the urge to escape, but she never thought of killing anyone. While escaping, Cassidy suddenly appeared out of nowhere and charged at her with a knife.
At first, she thought Cassidy was a guard, so she parried Cassidy to protect herself.
Emmeline knew that her attack would only knock Cassidy out instead of causing fatal injury. Moreover, she did not intend to hurt Jara's people again.
But Cassidy was dead.
And unfortunately, everyone who saw the incident with their own eyes deemed that she had beaten Cassidy to death.
Therefore, no matter how she explained, Jara would not believe her.
Later, she finally found an opportunity to tell him everything. At the same time, she suggested that he could do an investigation, and she would give him full cooperation.
Even so, he still refused to believe her.
Looking at her coldly, he asked her a question.
"Do you hate me for destroying the Salvation Club?"
Upon hearing that, she was stunned.
How was she going to answer that?
Did she hate him?
Actually, there was no definite answer to it. After all, Lost Vanguard and Salvation Club were two different forces, which represented two different interests.
Besides, the territory was not that huge, so it would definitely bring forth a cutthroat competition.
As for the top-secret information of both parties being leaked, someone must have done something in between. Even if Jara didn't do anything, Salvation Club would have attacked him.
With that, there were high chances that her companion would kill Jara.
And Emmeline wouldn't want that to happen.
Therefore, she did not hate Jara.
In fact, Salvation Club lost in the situation where they had their opponent's secret information. So, they actually lost in terms of strength, and they were supposed to accept defeat.
Nevertheless, she also hated the fact that Jara still wanted to kill the people from Salvation Club after he had gotten what he wanted.
Those were all her friends!
Why couldn't he let them go?
As Jara watched her staring into space, his lips curved into an insulting smile.
Then, he turned around and strode away without saying anything.
Afterward, something unexpected happened to Emmeline.
Before that, she had thought of hundreds and thousands of ways how Jara would retaliate and torture her.
However, she didn't expect that he would send her to jail.
When she found out about it, she didn't know whether she should cry or laugh.
After all, he was the leader of the top underground organization, and he never obeyed rules. So, it never came to her mind that he would actually think of this method to punish her.
Jail? Oh, great...
For various reasons, Emmeline was only sentenced to four years in jail.
It wasn't because Jara had shown her mercy.
In fact, Jara intended to imprison her, but no matter how many grudges the two organizations had previously held, the authorities would not interfere.
As for Cassidy's murder, there was insufficient evidence.
Such as the angle of the wound, as well as the motive of that woman appearing there at that time.
By rights, the wound alone was enough to prove that Emmeline did not kill her.
However, no one was willing to believe it.
Including Jara.
It was as if everyone had affirmed that she was a murderer, and the reason why Cassidy had appeared there at that time was to be killed by her so that she could be charged with murder.
How ridiculous.
Even so, no one believed that she was innocent.
In the end, under Jara's pressure, she was still charged with murder despite the lack of evidence.
So, in a legal sense, she became a real murderer.
The whole situation was ironic for a professional killer like her.
In the past, she had done a lot of ruthless things. However, she would only kill if it was related to the interests of both sides, and she would never kill anyone innocent.
And yet today, she bore a murder crime because of a person she had never killed before.
Anyway, everyone had been bribed by Jara, so no one would be willing to listen to her testimony.
Before leaving the court, Jara and Emmeline passed by each other.
Then, Emmeline stopped without looking at him, and her expression was as calm as a lake.
In a cold voice, she forewarned, "Sooner or later, I'll make you pay for what you've done to me today!"
Even though Jara heard her, he did not say anything and walked past her indifferently.
Besides, he didn't even look at her.
Regardless of that, Emmeline continued with her back facing him, "Four years later, I will come to you. By that time, I will make sure that the death of my companions and the grievances I have suffered will not be in vain. When we meet again, one shall stand, and one shall fall!"
After that, she strode away without looking back.
Upon hearing her words, Jara was rooted to the spot.
With that, he flashed back to years ago, under the grape rack in the afternoon, that thin, pale girl with a pair of bright and clear eyes walked toward him.
That day, her smile was so innocent that it evoked his desire to cherish her.
Why did everything turn out this way?
For more than once, he had asked himself this question.
In the past four years, in countless sleepless nights when he tossed and turned, he was also wondering.
How did they become what they were now?
But there was no answer.
In fact, no one else could tell them the reason for this.
Now, four years had passed. When the two of them saw each other again, things had changed.
Emmeline stood there for a long time, but she didn't say anything.
Meanwhile, Keira looked at her dazed expression, having no idea what she was thinking.
Following Emmeline's gaze, Keira saw the black Rolls-Royce parked in the shadows of the tree branches at the side of the road.
Puzzled, she asked curiously, "Who is that? Is that someone you know?"
Emmeline was silent for a few seconds.
After that, she answered in a faint and calm voice, "Nope."
Upon hearing that, Keira was confused.
Then, Emmeline looked at her with a smile and said, "You just said that I don't have friends and I have nowhere to go..."
