Chapter 783 Who Do You Think You Are

Emmeline thought that she should also be able to do it.
She would do it for the sake of her companions, and for those lovely people who stood beside her without doubting her but had died one after another.
She must do it!
The night was cold. When she looked at the flame that was burning vigorously, her gaze became brighter.
Suddenly, she seemed to see the woman who was full of heroic spirit, standing in front of her in a black suit and laughing wildly.
"Emmeline! What is a man? Come with us in the future. We'll be together forever!"
Their proud and amiable voices were ringing in Emmeline's ears, and at that moment, she felt a sense of obscureness.
"Forever? How long was forever?"
It was as if a sharp knife had scraped through the weakest point of her heart, leaving a long gash on it. The blood was bled dry, leaving only a hollow heart that was numb and desolate.
While Emmeline closed her eyes, her hair was being blown by the wind, brushing across her face. She felt a little itchy, and the nauseating smell of the burnt corpses that came from the chamber wafted into her nose. However, she felt as if she was being hit by a giant hammer, being rejuvenated.
"Demon Devil."
A soft cry rose silently from the bottom of her heart, carrying a sense of loneliness and emptiness. She watched as the flames burned to ashes and suddenly, she said in a low voice, "Goodbye."
"Hey! Who's that?"
Creak—! The iron door was suddenly opened at this moment. A middle-aged man in a blue uniform came in with a flushed face. He seemed to have drunk alcohol as his footsteps were a little wobbly, but still, he saw her at a glance. He pointed at her and stammered, "W—Who are you?"
In an instant, Emmeline gathered her emotions and turned to glance at the drunkard. A creepy smile appeared on her face as she steadied herself, then she dashed and jumped up the wall. In a chic leap, she managed to escape.
Her figure was like a ghost, and she was moving so fast that it was like a shadow flying across, disappearing in an instant.
The middle-aged man was stunned as he stood in the same spot. After a while, the beer bottle in his hand slipped to the ground with a smash, as he ran out of the door and shouted, "Ah! There's a ghost! I saw a ghost!"
The bird that had nestled at night was startled by the panicked scream. But the culprit who caused the chaos stopped running suddenly. In the dark, he took a deep look into the chamber where the flame was still faintly burning, then turned around and quickly ran in another direction.
At this moment, in the castle.
Jara had been sitting in the study for two hours.
At dinner time, when the servant went to call him, he drove them out and said that he didn't have an appetite and didn't want to eat.
However, it was obvious that he looked grim, carrying the sign of a storm was coming.
The servants didn't dare to disobey him and left in a hurry. Because he was in a bad mood, everyone was nervous as well and was being extra careful when they work. They feared if they made a loud noise, it would make him unhappy and they would get into trouble for no reason.
Hence, the entire castle was filled with an oppressive atmosphere.
However, everyone in the castle, including Uncle Poick, had no idea what was going on.
When Kayla came over after dinner and learned that Jara was in a bad mood and hadn't eaten anything, she purposely brought over a bowl of soup that she had cooked herself.
After learning from her lesson, she knew that although Jara was still with her, he didn't like her being too close to him, and he didn't like her making decisions for his meals either.
Therefore, this time, she stayed downstairs and asked Uncle Poick to help her convey the message to Jara that she just wanted to see him.
Then, Uncle Poick did as told. Initially, he thought that Jara would refuse to meet her, but instead, he nodded his head.
Not long after, Kayla was waiting in the living room when she saw Jara coming down from the stairs.
"Jara!"
A gentle and sweet smile instantly appeared on her face. She walked over and said, "I heard that you have locked yourself up in your room since you came back, and you haven't had dinner. Are you okay? Are you not feeling well?"
But Jara looked at her coldly without any expression on his face.
"Anything?"
Seeing that he didn't answer her question, Kayla felt a little embarrassed. Even in front of the servants, she couldn't keep a straight face.
However, she also knew that had always been Jara's personality. If she wanted to stay with him, she would need to have more patience and perseverance.
So she smiled and walked up to him. "Nothing much. I just had nothing to do at home this afternoon, so I made myself some soup. I've had it during dinner and thought it tasted good. I heard you didn't have an appetite, so I brought it over for you to try."
With a pause, she was afraid that he would be angry again, so quickly added, "It doesn't matter if you don't drink it. It's nothing special. I was only worried about you."
Then, Jara looked at her with a faint smile on his face as he walked down at a leisurely pace.
Folding up his sleeves, he said, "Since you cooked it yourself, I would be impolite if I didn't drink it, wouldn't I?"
When Kayla heard this, her eyes lit up.
In fact, she was really excited inside, but after failing several times recently when she expressed herself, she didn't dare to show it this time.
Hence, she lowered her head slightly and said softly, "Of course not. I'm already very grateful that you're willing to take me in. If I can do something useful for you, it's a consolation to me. So if you didn't want to drink it, but you do it anyway just because you couldn't bear to reject me, I'll feel like I've become your burden."
There was no doubt that what she just said was perfect.
Even Jara couldn't help but slightly narrow his eyes as he carefully sized her up.
He had to admit that after an afternoon, the woman in front of him seemed to have suddenly changed into another person.
In terms of the way she dressed or the way she spoke, she was a totally different person from what she had been at the golf course today.
Raising his eyebrows, he was somewhat surprised but also felt that it was a little funny.
Did she seek advice from a 'guru' or had she come up with a new plan?
However, no matter what plan it was, it was obvious that he wasn't interested in her at all.
So, he just replied in a cold voice, "In that case, take it back then! I'm not interested."
After that, he walked past her and was about to go out.
Although she had guessed that it would be the result, after hearing that out loud, it would be a lie if she said that she was not hurt at all.
Clearly, he was willing to stand up for her during the day even at the cost of ruining his relationship with his ex-girlfriend. But, why was he suddenly so unkind to her now?
However, she knew that she should not ask anything at this time.
So she forced a smile and quickly followed up by saying, "Alright, I'll take it away. Are you going out now?"
After hearing that, Jara stopped his footsteps.
Turning around, he looked at her coldly.
"Who do you think you are now, Miss Burke?"
Upon hearing that, Kayla was stunned.
Standing there and looking into his cold and distant eyes, she was a little confused.
