Chapter 673 His Whereabouts
That night, Buckley was acutely conscious that something was wrong with Charlotte's mood when he returned home.
Her face was gloomy as if something serious had happened.
Since his two sons had moved out, only he could enrage her.
Only he could provoke her if she was angered.
After all, Charlotte wouldn't be so irritated by the servants even if they made any mistakes.
She was quite tolerant in this aspect.
Besides, if the servants made any mistakes, Charlotte would just say a few words. At worst, she would punish them. She would never keep a sullen face because of this.
Buckley could not help but sigh as he thought about it.
When he changed his shoes at the door, he had already recalled everything he had done today.
However, after a while, he could not come up with anything. He went to work this morning and spent the rest of the day there. Besides, he did not even call or meet her. By right, there should be no chance to irritate her.
He carefully thought about it again.
It was not their anniversary, their birthday, or a holiday.
He did not call or give a present, nor was he late to home.
Come to think of it, he didn't make a mistake.
So why was Charlotte angry?
Buckley was not an uxorious husband, but he still felt a little guilty toward Charlotte because of something that happened a long time ago.
As a result, he avoided arguing with her in life.
He would tolerate it as long as she was happy.
Therefore, after a long time, in the eyes of outsiders, although he was a very powerful CEO of Blaine Group, he was afraid of his wife.
Buckley had no idea what to say about the rumors, but he couldn't be bothered to explain.
That way, it saved him a lot of trouble. He was relieved not to have any ladies to pester him.
With these thoughts in mind, he put on his house shoes and walked in.
"Hey, what's wrong? Who pissed you off today? Why are you so mad?"
As he took off his jacket, he joked with a smile.
He tried to break the tense situation.
However, all of the servants in the room were preoccupied, and no one dared to say a word.
Sitting on the sofa, Charlotte simply raised her head and gave him a sidelong look. Then, she made a face as if she did not want to speak to him.
Buckley was stunned.
He felt like he had gone into an endless nightmare.
Hence, he felt a little helpless, but he couldn't do anything about it since Charlotte ignored him.
After that, he walked toward the kitchen and asked as he walked, "Is dinner ready?"
"Yes, it's ready, sir," a servant responded politely.
"It's about time. Let's have dinner."
The maid nodded respectfully, then turned around and went to the kitchen.
Buckley turned around after finishing his words and saw Charlotte still sitting on the sofa. She was clearly sulking.
After a brief moment of thinking, he walked back and grabbed her arm.
"Hey, it's time for dinner."
However, when his hand barely met Charlotte's, she shook it off.
"Don't touch me!"
Buckley was shocked.
He was just wondering if he had made her angry, and it had been confirmed that this was the case.
He could not help but be perplexed. He frowned and asked, "What's wrong with you today? I didn't annoy you. Why are you mad at me?"
In fact, he somewhat felt wronged. After all, he had always been careful to apologize to Charlotte over the years, but she had always been indifferent toward him.
No matter how forgiving he was, he would be disappointed if she treated him coldly for an extended period of time.
Buckley sighed, but he could not do anything. "Well, you still have to eat even if you're angry. Besides, I didn't irritate you today. So, what's the problem?"
This time, Charlotte raised her head and looked at him.
She gave him a quick look and stayed quiet for a few seconds before asking, "Where have you been these past few days?"
Buckley was stunned.
He still had not reacted to her question.
But he soon came to his senses and responded truthfully, "I have been in the office and return after work. What's the matter?"
"Are you sure you didn't lie to me?" Charlotte sneered.
Upon hearing this, Buckley became even more perplexed. "Why would I lie to you? Joe and the others have been with me. Besides, Roland can be my witness. Is there a need for me to lie to you?"
Charlotte thought for a while and agreed with him.
Roland indeed didn't dare to lie to her.
She would be able to find out about Buckley's whereabouts for the past few days when she asked Roland.
Her mood instantly improved a lot as she thought about it.
She no longer had a cold face, and her eyes eased a lot. "Alright. Let's eat," she said.
After that, he went to the kitchen.
Buckley was completely confused by her mood swings. He didn't understand what was going on with her.
However, the fact that she was willing to eat indicated that she was actually not all that frustrated.
Therefore, Buckley did not bother to figure out the cause. Later, they went to the kitchen.
After dinner, Charlotte went to the balcony alone and called Roland.
Roland was no longer living in their house. He had moved out since marrying Sophia.
Sophia had not yet been officially introduced to them, but Charlotte was not in a rush.
She knew that both her sons were dominant. They would only think of her when they faced an issue.
They were not going to listen to her anyway.
With this in mind, she could not help but feel a little let down.
However, these were not the most important considerations.
She had never thought about controlling her sons forever. They would be grown up and should be living their own lives.
Furthermore, she wasn't a mother who had complete control over her sons, so she couldn't be bothered to care.
Therefore, Charlotte didn't stop Marty from dating a woman from the entertainment industry, no matter how poor her family background was.
Later, Charlotte dialed Roland's phone, and he answered right away.
"Hello, Mom?"
Roland's deep magnetic voice sounded from the other side of the phone.
Charlotte took a deep breath and asked, "Roland, I have something to ask you. You must answer me honestly."
For a moment, Roland was taken aback. He seemed to be a little surprised. "Mom, what's the matter?"
"Nothing. I am just wondering if your father has been staying at the company for the past few days. Did he leave the office?"
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end.
"Mom, did you guys quarrel again?" Roland asked, his voice tinged with worry.
Charlotte rolled her eyes and was a little impatient. "We didn't quarrel. Why are you asking so many questions? Didn't I ask you first?"
