Chapter 103 Misunderstandings and Explanations

At this moment, Cecily, who had failed to finalize a deal, was about to leave the room when the door burst open, causing her to walk right into the person entering.

A very familiar, clean scent enveloped her, and Cecily's body stiffened as a pair of hands reached out to steady her. She looked up, locking eyes with a pair of deep, fathomless ones.

"Darian?" Cecily's brow furrowed, quite surprised to see the man who had just walked in, "You?"

Darian's brow was slightly furrowed as he looked down at the unscathed woman before him, unconsciously letting out a sigh of relief.

Cecily furrowed her brow as she looked at the silent Darian in front of her. With Ophelia just leaving and now Darian's arrival, the private room was indeed bustling with activity.

"Are you here looking for Ophelia?"

Ophelia had just walked out, and Darian walked in right after – if he wasn't looking for Ophelia, Cecily couldn't think of any other reason.

Darian indifferently withdrew his hand, having barged in without any clear excuse.

He didn't want to admit that he was concerned about her and came over to ensure she was safe.

Since she asked, Darian just hummed in acknowledgment, taking it as a way to respond.

Cecily's beautiful eyes flashed a spark of understanding as she nonchalantly uttered, "Oh."

Hayden rushed over, coming to a sudden stop at the door. "Hmm? Looks like I'm late. Missed the whole damsel-in-distress rescue scene – what a shame."

Hearing this, Cecily raised an eyebrow and laughed, "So Mr. Fitzgerald hurried over here to play the hero? Too bad I already shooed the damsel away. If you're so concerned, you could always chase after her. You might still catch up."

Darian's forehead creased with tension.

Cecily, not in the mood to talk much today. Just wanted to leave. Seeing that his casual remark had heightened the tension between the two, Hayden, aware of his deep blunder, quickly intercepted Cecily, eager to explain.

"Wait, you've got the wrong idea about Darian."

"Wrong idea about what?"

Hayden was about to explain.

Darian interrupted, "Shut your mouth."

Hayden looked left, then right... and decided to keep quiet.

Cecily glanced at Darian and, without saying more, walked away.

Darian didn't stop her and just let her go, but the light dimmed in his eyes.

The surrounding people sensed the tense atmosphere and instinctively moved to the side to give space.

Hayden scratched the back of his head, watching Cecily's retreating figure and couldn't help but shake his head, "Darian, why do this? It's like you're pushing her further away. I heard that Blaise came all the way from Dorde for someone special. There is no need for me to spell out who."

Darian's eyes darkened, "What are you trying to say?"

Hayden's gaze was deep as he stood with his hands in the pockets of his suit pants. "I want to say that you deeply regret forcing that woman to take those pills that induced the miscarriage years ago, regret letting her go out alone, which led to that 'tragic loss of two lives in one.' Now that the past has resurfaced, you shouldn't miss out on each other again because of misunderstandings."

For once, Hayden's face, usually marked by a carefree smirk, took on a grave seriousness. He almost startled himself, sounding like some sort of life coach.

Darian casually lit a cigarette, smiling with indifference. "Which eye of yours saw me regretting anything?"

Hayden frowned.

Wanting to make amends to a child that wasn't his own—wasn't that regret? He had known Darian for years, but never had he seen him this generous.

Would he have given that kid a second glance if not for Cecily's connection? These were things Darian himself hadn't come to realize.

Hayden decided to drop it. Love affairs were not his to meddle with. He could only watch them figure it out for themselves.

However, the thought of the high and mighty Darian embarking on an arduous journey to win back his love gave Hayden a thrill of anticipation. He found the whole scenario wildly entertaining.

"You heading back, Darian?"

"I'm out of here." Darian was not in the mood to deal with social gatherings and chose to leave outright.

"Leaving so soon? Let's grab a drink with the kid, Declan."

"No, Rowan's at home alone."

"Dude! How could your son get lost at home?" Hayden stepped up, following him.

When Cecily left the hotel, the sky had already darkened. She drove straight home.

Upon hearing of Rowan's return, Aurelie came over in a rush with an armful of presents, wanting to bond with the little guy. Aurelie had heard about the evening's events, and her laughter was so unhinged that Aunt Mary thought she'd come down with some sort of hysteria.

"Ha, do you think those women's noses were bent out of shape tonight?" Aurelie mused, legs crossed and hugging a big bag of chips, munching away.

Cecily leaned back on the couch, tilting her head slightly, with a soft chuckle. "They practically wanted to skin me alive."

Hearing this, the little guy's face filled with worry as he clung tightly to her.

Cecily's heart softened, and she gently patted the little one in her arms, "It's okay, sweetie. Mommy was just making a point. They can't beat Mommy."

The little one finally agreed to let go of her.

Aurelie couldn't help but laugh, "I really missed out. I don't know how thrilled I would've been if I had been there to see it all go down. By the way, Cecily, did you suspect they'd both be involved from the start?"

Cecily nodded noncommittally. "When Mia told me they insisted I personally show up, I had a pretty good hunch."

Without Lucinda's intervention, they certainly wouldn't have let it go so easily.

"Oh man, I should've skipped my overtime work and gone with you tonight."

"Money-making is more important than gossip."

"Gossip is clearly more important."

Cecily couldn't help but smile wryly.

"I think Elysia may be going to run crying to your dad."

Cecily raised her hand, "Hold on, that's her dad, not mine."

Aurelie immediately slapped her own mouth as a self-punishment, "My bad."

No sooner had she spoken than Cecily's phone rang. She reached over to the coffee table to pick it up, her eyebrows lifting, "Speak of the devil, and he doth appear."

Aurelie glanced closer at the screen, "Wow, did I just call it or what?"

Cecily quirked an eyebrow, "Guess what he's going to say first?"

With a light cough, Aurelie mimicked the posture often adopted by Raphael when he spoke to Cecily and bellowed with great imitation, "Cecily, when did you start a company behind my back?"

Cecily laughed and answered the phone. Immediately, Raphael's furious voice came through, "Cecily, tell me, when did you start a company behind my back?"

Cecily and Aurelie exchanged a knowing smile.

Aurelie crunched on a potato chip vigorously and rolled her eyes dramatically at the phone.

Cecily calmly responded, "You don't even care about my well-being. Why do you care about what I start?"

Raphael grunted in anger, "That company of yours was left to you by your mother, right? That's Watson family business!"

Cecily didn't reply. She had never seen such shamelessness before.

Everything about the Watson family, including the house they lived in, was the result of her mother's hard work, but he had secretively claimed it all as his own and acted as if everything had always been his. His skin was so thick not even a nuclear bomb could penetrate it.

Cecily remained silent. After a pause, Raphael's voice softened a bit as he continued, "Do you even know how to run a company? Don't let the things your mom worked for crumble in your hands. Look, your sister is thinking of starting a company. Transfer this company to her name, and let your sister manage it for you. That way, you'd also be making amends with your sister."

"Elysia mentioned that being her older sister, she would let bygones be bygones. Also, you should move back to the Watson family home. Liora has arranged a room for you there, and I'll set you up with a position at the Watson Corporation."
