Chapter 150 Rowan Kidnapped
Inside the motorhome.
"It's been a while."
"Are you pregnant?"
Aurelie quickly clarified, "No, no, that was just something I blurted out in the heat of the moment."
Evander chuckled, "I see."
Aurelie nodded vigorously.
When Cecily saw Aurelie practically drooling over someone's handsome face, she touched her forehead in exasperation, "We do have serious business to discuss."
"Right, right, the serious business," Aurelie said with an embarrassed chuckle as she started to discuss the endorsement deal.
They had thought it would be a huge ordeal, but after Aurelie finished, Evander simply smiled faintly, "Alright."
"Alright?" Aurelie's mouth twitched, "You're agreeing just like that?"
The speed of his agreement made Aurelie think it was too hasty.
"Yes." Evander pulled out his phone and handed it to Cecily, "Now that we're going to be working together, it's not too much to ask for the boss's contact info, right?"
Cecily took his phone and entered her cell number.
Evander took back his phone, pleased, then casually inquired, "So, you and Darian got divorced?"
Cecily's expression shifted slightly, "That doesn't really relate to our collaboration."
"I'd heard rumors and now wanted to confirm, but by your expression, it's true."
Cecily gave a noncommittal nod, "Yeah."
Evander's smile curved a bit more, "Does that mean I might have a chance?"
"Stop joking around."
"Who's joking?"
"Evander, I have kids now. I'm a mother of two."
Evander raised an eyebrow, "Darian's?"
"Mine."
...
Stepping out from Evander's car, Aurelie kept her eyes fixed on Cecily's face, a knowing smile on her lips, "I should have brought the contract with me today; I knew it would be this easy. Now that the biggest hurdle is out of the way, it's such a relief."
"But do you think there's still a chance with him? He's been so devoted all these years; it's rare to find someone who doesn't change their heart like that. Maybe you should give him a chance."
Cecily smiled helplessly, "Aurelie."
"Alright, alright, I know your mind is on the kids and the company. I won't mention it anymore, okay?"
"Let's head back to the office. We have a meeting later, and you need to draft the contract by tomorrow. Make sure he signs it."
"Sure, don't worry. I've got the rest covered."
...
Fitzgerald Family.
Darian personally took Griffin to school today. Griffin blinked, looking at his daddy's hand holding his own, feeling that daddy was acting a bit strange today.
In the car, Griffin couldn't help but ask, "Daddy, what's up with you today?"
"Why do you ask?" Darian turned to look at the little fellow beside him.
Griffin tilted his head, "Um... just feel like daddy is a bit different today."
His eyes also looked different.
Darian lowered his gaze and gently patted Griffin on the head, "Do you want to go back to your mommy?"
"Yes." Griffin did not hesitate, "I miss mommy."
Darian's expression darkened, a tender look in his eyes as he regarded the little guy. Perhaps he really shouldn't keep Cecily's child away from her forcefully.
"How about I send you back then?"
"Really?" Griffin's eyes lit up, but seeing Darian's expression, his smile faded a little.
Both he and his brother would be with mommy, what about daddy?
Daddy was good to him.
If they both left, it would be just daddy. Would he be very sad?
Five years.
Daddy watched his brother grow up too and had feelings.
Griffin reached out and grasped Darian's large hand. "Daddy, can you bear to part with me?"
Darian chuckled lightly. "Who says I can't bear to part with you?"
"You just can't bear it and won't admit it. I can tell. If you can't bear it, why don't you make up with mommy? If you and mommy made up, we could all live together."
Darian looked down at the small hand in his own, his dark eyes unconsciously tinged with a hint of helplessness. "But your mom and I can't go back to how things were before."
"Why?" Griffin didn't understand.
Darian stared at Griffin's young face. "You ask too many questions."
"Then tell me, and I'll stop asking."
"Kids shouldn't worry about adult matters."
Griffin huffed and sat down in the chair. "Mom always used to say that, too. All you adults are the same."
Darian's gaze deepened, prompting Griffin to quickly cover his mouth. "I mean, Mom used to say that before..."
Darian saw the little guy slip up and try to hide it, managing only a faint smile. "Don't pretend, you're not Rowan, your name is Griffin."
Griffin's eyes filled with surprise. "How did you know... you don't know everything, do you?"
Darian responded softly with a hum of acknowledgment.
"That... that..." Griffin stammered nervously.
"Don't be nervous. I don't bite, and if you want, you can always think of me as your daddy."
Having been found out, Griffin became somewhat restrained. "Daddy? We didn't mean to deceive you..."
Darian's tone was calm. "I know, and I'm not mad at you."
The car stopped in front of the school, and Darian added, "If you want to go back to your mom, I won't stop you."
Griffin pursed his lips. "Thank you, Daddy."
Darian watched the little guy walk into the school, his expression showing a flicker of sadness.
"Mr. Fitzgerald, are you really going to send the young master back to Miss Cecily?" Larkin asked from the front seat.
Darian pinched the bridge of his nose. "They all want to go back to her, what reason do I have to stop them?"
After all, there was no blood relation between him and the kids.
They wanted to return to their mother, and he prevented them from doing so, firmly holding his ground. No one was happy about that.
If that woman wanted to cut ties with him completely, then so be it.
"Has the man from that night still not been found?" Darian suddenly became very curious about the identity of the man who had been with Cecily that night.
Larkin replied, "There were many guests that day, and after all these years, it's indeed hard to find him, and we'll need more time."
Larkin didn't quite understand why their boss was suddenly eager to look into this matter. It had been so many years and finding that man seemed like an effort with little significance.
Darian insisted, "As soon as possible."
...
Today, after finishing her work early, Cecily saw it was still early and decided to go with Aurelie to pick up Rowan from school.
They saw from a distance that Aunt Mary had already picked up Rowan.
Aurelie pulled the car up to them.
Cecily rolled down the window, "Aunt Mary, Rowan."
"Mom, Godmom, what are you doing here?" Rowan's eyes lit up.
Cecily said, "Mommy finished work early today, so I came with your godmother to pick you up. Get in the car, quick."
Aunt Mary got in the back seat with Rowan, who was clearly very happy.
Cecily suggested, "Let's pick up some groceries on the way home and have barbecue for dinner."
Aurelie immediately nodded, "Sounds great! Can Rowan handle spicy food?"
Rowan nodded, "Yes."
The group went to the market, and by the time they headed home, it was getting dark.
The car drove quietly along.
As Cecily glanced down at her phone, she lifted her head just in time to see a black car coming alongside them. Without warning, the black car swerved, causing Cecily's eyes to widen, "Be careful!"
Her words had just left her mouth when there was a loud "crash," and their car was violently hit...
"Ah!"
Aurelie, who was driving, and Aunt Mary in the back with Rowan both screamed.
Rowan was also terribly frightened.
Cecily hurriedly lunged to support the steering wheel, bringing the car to a harrowing stop. Cecily's first instinct was to look back to check on Rowan's condition.
However, in the next moment, her whole world turned upside down as the rear car door swung open and a shadowy figure dressed in black quickly grabbed Rowan, abducting them in a swift motion.
Without a second of hesitation, Cecily jumped out of the car and chased after the mysterious figure clad in black.
Aunt Mary stood frozen in shock, still processing what had happened.
Aurelie also quickly got out of the car and saw that Cecily was already grappling with the person in black.
