Chapter 426 Darian Woke Up
The doctor rushed over with the meds they'd just given the kids. "These are all fever reducers. Their temps should've dropped fast, but the meds aren't working, especially for Rowan. He's in worse shape."
The doc had used the best stuff for Rowan and Griffin, but their temps were still high and getting worse. They'd shiver and convulse now and then.
Since they'd just taken fever reducers, they couldn't have another dose so soon, leaving the doc pretty helpless.
Cecily's face was grim. Rowan and Griffin were in worse shape than she thought.
"How long ago did they take the meds?" Cecily asked.
"Almost three hours ago."
Cecily grabbed a pen and paper and jotted down some herbs. "First, get some alcohol, then follow this recipe. Soak the first three herbs in cold water for fifteen minutes, then boil them for five. After an hour, give it to the kids."
"Do we really have to wait another hour?" Sandra asked, heartbroken.
"They can't take too much medicine. It's been less than three hours since the fever reducers. Kids' bodies can't handle high doses," Cecily replied.
"Alright, get it ready," Sandra told the staff.
Cecily called a servant to help use alcohol to bring down the kids' temps.
Seeing Rowan and Griffin suffering, Sandra wiped her tears and glared at Josep and Olivia. "We left the kids with you, and this is how you take care of them? If I hadn't come back, were you not going to tell us?"
Olivia snapped back, "Sandra, we're worried too, but kids get sick. You can't blame us. We've been taking good care of them and already called the doctor."
Olivia felt irritated. Looking after the children was one matter, but now they were being held accountable for their sickness.
Sandra knew Josep and Olivia never had good intentions and wasn't listening to them.
"If it weren't for your malicious intentions, Rowan and Griffin wouldn't have been so scared," Sandra said sharply. If she had proof they were involved in last night's incident, she'd have said everything on her mind.
"Sandra, can you speak properly?"
"Enough," Josep frowned. "What's the point of arguing? Dad will be upset when he gets back."
After scolding, Josep glanced at Cecily and the others, his gaze finally resting on Blaise standing nearby. Josep squinted and moved away without a word.
"Since you're all here, we can't do much to help. Darian is still in the hospital, so we'll go check on him."
With that, Josep pulled Olivia to leave.
Cecily, who had been squatting by the bed, tried to stand up to get a towel, but a sudden pain from her injured knee caused her to stumble.
Sandra, who was close to Cecily, instinctively reached out to support her.
But Blaise was quicker and grabbed Cecily's arm.
Cecily steadied herself and turned to Blaise. "Thanks."
Sandra noticed and her expression grew complicated.
Josep and Olivia, who had just reached the door, also turned back, their eyes flickering.
Outside, Olivia leaned close to Josep. "Who's that guy with Cecily? They seem close."
Josep's eyes narrowed. "I've seen him before, but I can't place him. Since they're close, I'll make sure to remind Darian when he wakes up."
Olivia grinned slyly. "Got it."
Even after taking the medicine, Rowan and Griffin slept fitfully, occasionally whimpering, their little brows furrowed as if having a terrible nightmare.
Seeing this, Cecily had their beds moved closer together and sat between them, gently patting their chests and kissing their cheeks. "Don't be afraid, babies. Mommy's here. I'll always be here."
The real issue for Rowan and Griffin wasn't the fever but the extreme mental stress from the previous night's events, making them restless even in their sleep.
Sandra felt heartbroken watching from the side.
Under Cecily's care, Rowan and Griffin gradually calmed down. Cecily sighed in relief when their breathing steadied.
She continued to care for the kids until noon. After taking the medicine, their temperatures finally came down, and Sandra also felt relieved.
Cecily tucked them in and carefully left the room with Sandra.
Sandra sighed. "Cecily, thank goodness you arrived in time. We would've been lost without you. You haven't slept all night, have you? Rest after lunch."
Sandra noticed how exhausted Cecily looked.
"I'm fine." Cecily glanced around but didn't see Blaise.
"Your friend just left and asked a servant to tell you that the investigation results will be sent to you later."
Cecily nodded. "Okay, I understand."
Sandra asked, "What investigation results? Is it about last night?"
"Yes."
Sandra's eyes lit up, gripping Cecily's hand. "Does that mean we can catch all those bad people, including Josep?"
"I haven't seen the results yet, so I'm not sure if we can catch them all, but it's only a matter of time. You can rest assured, Auntie."
Cecily wasn't certain they could apprehend Josep, but she was confident that Freya and Jennifer wouldn't get away.
Sandra's eyes welled up. "We must catch them all. We need to settle the scores for Patrick's death, Darian's car accident, and this incident."
Cecily nodded and gently patted Sandra's hand. "We will."
"You need to rest too. Don't overwork yourself. I've asked the chef to prepare lunch. Even if you need to go to the hospital, have lunch first. I'll take care of the children, don't worry."
Cecily smiled. "Okay, thank you, Auntie Sandra."
In the ward, Darian, who had been in a post-surgery coma for almost six hours, moved his fingers, opened his eyes, and murmured, "Cecily."
