Chapter 647 She Is Not a Saint, She Also Feels Resentment and Grievance

So right now, Cecily wasn't buying what Desmond was saying either. She figured he was just helping Vivienne keep secrets from her.

He was acting super shady.

Cecily's anxiety kept growing.

What was Vivienne hiding?

Was she sick? Did something bad happen? Or was it something so big that no one could fix it, so she just kept quiet?

What the heck was going on? Cecily gripped her whip tighter, her mind racing with worry, making her feel all kinds of stressed out.

She looked at Desmond again, her face more serious than before. "Is Vivienne dealing with something she can't handle?"

"No, don't overthink it. What could Vivienne possibly not handle? She's really just on vacation," Desmond tried to reassure her.

"Is she planning to leave me again?" Cecily's eyes dropped, her mood sinking even more.

When she asked that, both Bryan and Desmond noticed how upset she was.

Cecily, who had been abandoned once as a kid, was super sensitive about this stuff.

Bryan could even see the tears welling up in her eyes.

His heart ached, like a needle prick.

Vivienne had left Cecily with the Watson family because of him. It was all his fault.

Bryan hung his head, silent, guilt almost overwhelming him.

He owed Cecily and Vivienne big time.

Neither of them could escape this mess. He was too tangled up with Vivienne, and Vivienne was too cold-hearted.

Vivienne's coldness was aimed at everyone.

Back then, she didn't want Bryan to know Cecily was his daughter, and she managed to keep it a secret for nearly thirty years.

She was getting back at him, hurting herself, and in the process, she hurt Cecily too.

"Cecily, Vivienne doesn't want to abandon you, she just..." Desmond's old eyes lowered, reddening, and he didn't finish.

He couldn't tell Cecily that she was dying.

"What?" Cecily stared hard at Desmond, but he clammed up again, like it was something she could never know.

But the more he stayed quiet, the more worried she got.

"What is it? Go on!" Cecily's emotions were all over the place. Being kept in the dark, desperately wanting answers but not getting any, was driving her nuts.

Waiting for Desmond to continue, there was another long silence. Cecily was about to lose it. She grabbed her hair, pacing in circles.

She bent down, grabbing Desmond's shoulders. "Don't look away. You must know it, but you won't tell me. You always say you respect me, so why won't you tell me the truth? Do you think keeping quiet helps? Even if you all hide it from me, I'll find out sooner or later."

"Cecily!" Bryan, seeing her so upset, pulled her away from Desmond and held her close. "Calm down."

"Why should I calm down?" Cecily looked at Bryan, her eyes full of hurt and anger.

From being separated for over a decade to seeing Vivienne again, Cecily had never voiced her grievances to Vivienne.

Why did it have to be like this?

Why didn't they tell her anything?

When she was a teenager, they left her with the Watson family, without a word. She thought about Vivienne every day.

Now she was thirty, and Vivienne still hid everything from her.

Why? Wasn't Vivienne her closest person? Why didn't Vivienne tell her anything?

Cecily wiped away her tears, pushed Bryan away, and ran out. Bryan's worried voice called after her from a distance.

She didn't want to listen to him; she hated Bryan, hated both of them.

If they had such a big fallout back then, why did they have her? If they didn't want to be good parents, why have her?

After all these years, it was impossible for Cecily not to feel any resentment or hurt towards them.

Back in her room, Cecily locked the door, not wanting to see anyone.

Bryan watched Cecily run out, his eyes full of worry.

Cecily had always been the one to bend over backward in anything related to Vivienne. Maybe she was too sensible, maybe she craved motherly love too much. In front of Vivienne, she didn't dare to ask. Even when she found out Bryan was her father and wanted to acknowledge him, she held back all her feelings to consider Vivienne's, compromising once again for Vivienne.

Bryan sighed deeply, looking at Desmond. "What exactly is Vivienne hiding?"
