Chapter 108 Isn't It Time You Let Her Go?

"I..."

"Get out."

Ophelia's complexion stiffened, but she still stood her ground, showing no sign of heading for the exit.

Cecily turned to her assistant and said, "Aurelie, call the police."

"Right away." Aurelie immediately took out her cell phone and dialed without hesitation.

Seeing this, Elysia stepped forward quickly and fiercely knocked the cell phone out of Aurelie's hand, "What's this call to the police for? You just want to change the subject, Cecily. Cut the nonsense and let us in to search."

Cecily's eyes narrowed fiercely, and she calmly walked over to Elysia.

Towering above due to her height advantage, she looked down at Elysia. Elysia involuntarily shrank her neck under Cecily's icy gaze and stammered, "You want to—ah!"

Elysia's face suddenly felt the slap of a heavy hand.

Raphael bellowed, "Cecily! What are you doing?"

Dazed momentarily, Elysia only felt a numb pain on her left cheek.

She came to her senses, covering her face and staring wide-eyed at Cecily.

"Cecily, what right do you have to hit me?"

"What right do you have to barge into my room—just because you are thick-skinned?"

Elysia gritted her teeth as she glared at Cecily.

Cecily shook her slightly aching hand and remarked, "It is quite thick. It even made my hand hurt."

Elysia clutched her face, fuming with anger.

Cecily lifted her gaze, eyes sweeping over the others, and let out a short laugh, "You know, I find it rather amusing. So what if I, Cecily, actually had a child? Is having a child a crime now? Is it something that would get me taken out and shot?"

Elysia opened her mouth but said nothing.

Cecily's voice was ice cold, "Well, is it?"

There was a silence.

"If you're not speaking up, it seems it's not. So why is everyone so agitated, as if uncovering a child will somehow seal my doom, to the point where even Miss Ophelia feels the need to come all this way?"

Ophelia could detect the sarcasm in Cecily's words as she stood beside Darian, tugging at the corner of her mouth and softly said, "We're just concerned about you, right?"

"Tell me, how exactly are you concerned about me?"

Ophelia was at a loss for words.

Their intrusion into Cecily's home to look for a child did, indeed, seem absurd and without any justifiable reason.

It was only because Elysia was so certain that Cecily had a child that Ophelia had rushed over.

Seeing that no one was giving up, Cecily walked over and proactively opened her room door.

"You want to search, right? Go ahead, have a look." She tilted her chin up slightly as she spoke.

The room door stood wide open, with pitch darkness inside and nothing visible.

Cecily's offer to let them search left them uninterested in actually stepping inside.

After all, Darian had been standing there silently the whole time, his inscrutable eyes betraying no emotion.

Ophelia kept an eye on Darian's demeanor because his reaction was extremely important.

"Get out," Darian finally spoke, his jaw set, his gaze lightly resting on Cecily as he dismissed the trio.

"Mr. Fitzgerald..." Elysia was still unwilling to give up.

"If I have to repeat it, I assure you, you won't see tomorrow's sun."

His voice was low and ice-cold, revealing Darian's anger at that moment. The voice wasn't loud, but it was enough to make Elysia and her family freeze in fear.

Elysia was visibly shivering.

Ophelia kept giving Elysia looks, signaling her to leave first.

'Now is definitely not the time to make scenes. If Cecily really had a child, they would have plenty of opportunities to find out. There is no need to rush things at this moment.'

Raphael also quickly pulled Elysia away.

Ophelia smiled lightly with the Watson family leaving in disarray, "Miss Cecily, we apologize for the disturbance tonight. It's late, Darian, we should go too."

Ophelia reached out to link her arm through Darian's.

Meanwhile, Darian's gaze remained fixed on Cecily, whose face seemed to be hidden behind an impenetrable mask.

"Darian?" Ophelia softly called out to Darian again.

Darian slowly shifted his gaze from Cecily's face, turning just in time to catch a glimpse of a child's book on the table. A shade of darkness crossed his eyes, but he managed to move away without betraying his emotions.

Cecily's eyes hadn't left Darian since the moment he noticed the book, and she could tell that he had seen it.

Just before Darian left, Cecily called to him, "Wait a second."

She walked over with a notebook in hand and presented it to Darian, "Rowan left this at my place last time. Take it back with you."

Darian looked down at her, reached out to accept the notebook, and casually flipped through it. Indeed, the handwriting inside belonged to Rowan.

Rowan's penmanship was something Darian had personally ensured he learned from a teacher. It was strong, tidy, and unmistakably correct.

A subtle ease brushed Darian's frown away, and the displeasure in his eyes dissipated significantly, but suspicion still lingered.

"Right," he responded, before swiftly departing.

Ophelia's gaze lingered on Cecily.

'You can dodge once, but not twice.'

'Cecily, I'll be keeping a close watch. Just you wait and see.'

With that, Ophelia, too, left the room.

As the room cleared out, the air seemed to flow more freely. Cecily took a deep breath, a hint of annoyance clinging to her thoughts.

Darian was undoubtedly suspicious.

Ophelia would surely have people watch this place closely from now on, signaling more restless days ahead.

"Cecily, are you okay?" Aurelie quickly stepped forward to steady Cecily.

Aunt Mary hurriedly went to close the door.

Cecily shook her head, "I'm fine. What about you two?"

"We're okay," they assured her.

"Thank you for tonight," Cecily expressed her gratitude. Had it not been for Aunt Mary and Aurelie's interference, she wasn't sure what she would have done.

Aurelie realized the foresight in taking Rowan with her. Otherwise, just with Aunt Mary at home, things could have turned out disastrously. She shuddered at the thought of the confrontation with the Watson family.

Cecily asked, "Where is Rowan?"

"He's inside."

Cecily hurried into the room where Aurelie had hidden Rowan in a closet.

When Cecily opened the closet, the little guy was looking up at her with wide eyes, seemingly shocked into silence.

Cecily knew Rowan must have overheard their conversation outside the room.

Quickly scooping him into her arms, she comforted, "Rowan, sweetie, don't be scared. Mommy's here."

Rowan's eyes reddened, and after a while, he uttered guiltily, "Mommy, I'm sorry I've caused you trouble."

The cautious tone tugged at Cecily's heartstrings. She reassured him robustly, "Rowan, you've done nothing wrong. With me, you never have to apologize. Honey, I'll take care of the bad guys."

Rowan nodded slightly in her embrace.

...

Ophelia followed Darian down to the apartment complex. Her leg was injured, causing her to limp slowly behind without Darian waiting for her.

Her walk became almost comical as she hurried to keep pace with Darian.

Seeing Darian about to drive away, Ophelia called out urgently, "Darian!"

Darian stopped getting into the car, turning as if he'd just remembered someone was following him.

Ophelia pushed herself to catch up to him. Looking up, she couldn't help asking, "Darian, if Miss Cecily really had another man's child in these five years, isn't it time you let her go?"
