Chapter 303 Darian's Attitude Toward the Matter
They looked at each other in silence.
Hayden furrowed his brows. "Was Darian kicked out by Cecily?"
"No way, did they have another argument?"
They quickly walked towards Darian, looking at the closed door of the room and the extremely poor expression on Darian's face.
Hayden hesitated for a few seconds and tentatively asked, "Darian?"
Darian responded.
From Darian's reaction, it was evident that he wasn't too agitated to avoid conversation altogether.
Hayden leaned in closer and asked, "Have you and Cecily had a disagreement?
"No."
"Then what's wrong with you?"
Darian took a drag of his cigarette, didn't answer until the smoke at his fingertips burned out, then he stood up straight, his tall and imposing figure exuding pressure.
The two followed him as he was about to leave.
"Darian, where are you going?"
"For a walk."
Despite the slowly warming weather, the nights remained chilly, particularly when dressed in just one layer.
After bathing the children, Rowan and Griffin expressed their desire to sleep with Cecily, and she naturally accepted.
In that moment, she was softly narrating stories to the two little ones, occasionally glancing towards the door as if anticipating someone's arrival.
"Mama," Rowan suddenly spoke softly.
Cecily lowered her head, looking at her son sleeping beside her. "Rowan, what's wrong?"
"Mama, why hasn't Daddy come back yet?"
Both children were worried about Darian, and Cecily was worried too.
She thought for a moment and said, "Maybe he's busy. Go to sleep, I will call him later, okay?"
"Okay."
Cecily picked up her phone and checked the time. It was past eleven. She opened her contacts and hovered over Darian's number for a while, but ultimately didn't press the call button.
The two children couldn't stay up late, and without waiting for Darian, they quickly fell asleep.
In the adjacent room, Larkin stood before Darian, his face displaying a shocked expression as he listened to Darian's directives.
"Boss, this... didn't your father die in a car accident? What does this have to do with Cecily's mother? Maybe Mrs. Ophelia was talking nonsense."
Darian pinched his brow. "I don't know, that's why I want you to investigate!"
Larkin nodded. "Got it."
Hayden and Declan sat nearby, equally incredulous at the information. Suddenly, Hayden rose from the sofa and exclaimed, "Darian, I can't believe any of this. Ophelia is known for her nonsense.”
Declan also stood up, frowning. "Yeah, Darian, don't believe her, maybe she's just trying to sow discord between you and Cecily."
When the incident occurred many years ago, they were still young.
However, as time passed, they learned from their elders that the car accident was truly just an accident.
It seemed far-fetched to Cecily that this could have any connection to her mother.
"I understand."
After hearing their words, Darian stood up from the sofa.
"Where are you going again?"
"Back to sleep."
Hayden reached out to halt Darian, saying, "Darian, things have calmed down with Cecily. Don't let a few words from others stir up more trouble. It's not worth it.”
"Okay."
Darian never thought of mentioning this matter to Cecily.
At least not until there was evidence.
But if there was evidence...
As Darian contemplated this, his mood darkened slightly. He believed that without concrete evidence, this allegation couldn't be deemed true.
After firming up his judgment, Darian walked back to his room.
The Bennett's family.
Eliza returned to Bennett's house battered and bruised. Since she was already injured, she had to make the most of it.
Several supervisors waited outside while a doctor tended to Eliza's wounds. As the doctor emerged, Desmond approached and asked, "How is she?”
“Her back was cut by a knife quite severely, the other party was ruthless, but it has been dealt with now.”
"Is it dangerous?"
"Not really, just a long cut, a few stitches, it's inevitable there will be a scar, she should rest for now."
Desmond nodded. "Okay, I understand."
Eliza put on her clothes and was helped out by a servant. At this moment, her face was pale, her voice weak. "Desmond."
Desmond furrowed his brows. "Why are you out? Go back and rest."
“Help, that imposter nearly killed me. I barely made it back today," Eliza said, tears streaming down her face.
Since she was already injured, she needed a reason for the injury. Saying it was caused by Ophelia would be of no benefit to her, but attributing it to Cecily would be a big advantage.
"Are you saying another Cecily sent someone to hurt you like this?"
Eliza wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and said, "Yes, the person who attacked me admitted it themselves. They accused me of standing in their way, so they wanted to eliminate me. I don't usually have conflicts with anyone, and the only recent disagreement I've had is with her. There's no one else.”
Eliza fabricated a story that sounded plausible, with a pitiful look that made people feel sorry for her.
“She was so desperate to eliminate me and take on the role of Ms. Bennett. I was fortunate to escape today. If I hadn't gotten away and had been killed by those individuals, she would have seamlessly assumed my position as Ms. Bennett. She's truly deceitful.”
Several supervisors looked uncomfortable after hearing this, and Desmond spoke in a deep voice, "Where were you injured? Is there any surveillance?"
Eliza's eyes flickered, and she continued to lie, "It was in the direction of the parking lot, but I've already had someone check, there's no surveillance footage there. Do you think I'm wrongly accusing that impostor?"
"No, we also need to carefully investigate the person who hurt you, we can't jump to conclusions and wrong someone."
Naturally, Eliza wouldn't let them investigate. If they did, it would prove that she was lying.
“There's likely nothing to uncover without surveillance. Besides that imposter, there couldn't be anyone else. If something were to happen to me, she would be the only one to gain.”
Eliza emphasized these words repeatedly, trying to make the supervisors believe what she said.
Desmond's face darkened. "Okay, we understand. Rest well for now. Oh, there's one more thing."
"What?"
Initially, Desmond and the other two supervisors had deliberated that, due to the uncertainties surrounding her identity, she could not remain at the Bennett Family for the time being. However, witnessing the severity of her current injuries, they found themselves unable to voice their concerns.
"Never mind. You just need to rest well."
Eliza frowned, looking weak, and nodded.
The group departed, leaving Desmond in a sour mood. If one of them was the genuine Cecily, as she claimed, then wouldn't the other Cecily also be extremely deceitful and cruel? In that scenario, neither of them exhibited the temperament of Vivienne.
Desmond was a bit confused at the moment.
As they left, Eliza closed the door, and she was alone in the room, calling Ophelia.
According to the plan, Ophelia had already told Darian everything.
She was now curious about Darian's reaction to this news.
