Chapter 149 Shocked, Cecily is Pregnant
"Mom, I understand now. I know what to do." Malice gleamed in Ophelia's eyes.
A smirk played at her lips as she sneered. With Cecily exposed and herself in the shadows, it was the perfect opportunity to make her move.
Tabitha spoke up as a reminder, "Don't do anything yourself. Find someone else to act for you. That way, even if things come to light, it won't trace back to you."
Ophelia was in high spirits, "That's easy. Elysia is the perfect pawn."
...
At Cecily's place, neither spoke, and the room was silent.
Darian swept his gaze lightly around the room, "Don't you think there's something to be said?"
Cecily glanced at Darian, countering his question with one of her own, "What would you like to drink?"
"I only have water here."
Darian fell silent for a moment.
Darian then steered the conversation, "Let's talk about what happened in the past."
Cecily's hand faltered slightly as she was pouring water, pausing under Darian's intense gaze.
Cecily lowered her eyes and took a sip from her cup.
Darian raised an eyebrow, "Wasn't that for me?"
Realizing her oversight, Cecily poured another glass of water and set it before Darian, her tone calm, "What did you want to talk about?"
"Raising a child on your own isn't easy," Darian suddenly said.
Since the evening before until that morning, they had both tacitly avoided discussing the matter of the child. However, in reality, they were both fully aware of the situation concerning the children.
Cecily pressed her lips together lightly, "It hasn't been easy, but the only thing missing is a father. I'm managing well on my own. If I could, I'd prefer to have both my children with me."
Her implied message was clear: she hoped Darian would let her take over the custody of Rowan.
Darian's expression darkened.
Cecily took another sip of water, placed her cup gently down, and turned to Darian with a serious look. "I know you're aware of everything now, so let's have a proper talk."
"Mhm."
"The child who's been with the Fitzgerald family these days is Griffin, the child who has stayed by my side over the years."
"Griffin?" Darian's eyes narrowed, "His name is Griffin?"
"Yes."
Darian recalled the words Cecily had slurred in her drunken state that night, and realization dawned on him.
So, this was it.
Her beloveds were Rowan and Griffin, her two children!
He had misunderstood.
A barely perceptible smile flickered across Darian's eyes.
Seeing that Darian was only puzzled about the child's name, Cecily understood that he must have guessed that the boy at the Fitzgerald's wasn't Rowan.
"I want to have both my children back with me," Cecily said frankly.
Darian's eyes cooled a few degrees, and he responded with a firm denial, "No."
Cecily had long anticipated his refusal but still couldn't make sense of it. Darian always believed the child wasn't his, so why was he unwilling to return the child to her?
"Darian, if the child isn't yours, why won't you give my child back to me?"
"You and Ophelia are bound to get married, and Ophelia detests my child. You cannot possibly be unaware of that. Keeping my child with you will only lead to endless conflict between you and Ophelia. So why won't you return the child to me and then go live your own lives? We should not interfere with each other."
Darian squinted, a chill settling in the depths of his gaze, "I've raised Rowan for five years. Do you think I can just let him go on your say-so? Do we have no emotional connection? Or are you that eager to sever ties with me completely?"
"I do want to sever ties with you, our relationship should have ended cleanly five years ago."
Darian's brow twitched but he didn't speak, though his rigid expression clearly conveyed his anger.
A heavy silence fell in the living room.
Finally...
Darian stood up, his demeanor as cold as ice, "If this is what you want to discuss, don't bother. I won't agree."
With that, Darian left. Cecily stood up, "Think about it, Darian. As long as my child stays with you, as long as you and I have entanglements, Ophelia will never settle down."
Darian strode out without a word.
Cecily sighed, her expression darkening. She sat in the living room for a while, before standing up and going into the kitchen to fix herself something to eat.
Soon, Aunt Mary returned with Rowan. Seeing that it was getting late and that she wouldn't get much done at the office, Cecily decided to stay home and spend the day with the child.
...
Airport.
The next day, bright and early, Cecily was pulled out of bed by an excited Aurelie, and they rushed to the airport.
Evander was flying back, and they had pushed themselves to the limit to negotiate an endorsement deal.
Although they had prepared themselves, they were still taken aback by the scene that greeted them at the airport.
It was just too much.
"Evander! Ahhhh! So handsome!"
"Honey! Honey! Over here, look over here."
"Evander, you are the most handsome, I love you."
Aurelie was originally quite excited when she came; who wouldn't be thrilled to see a major celebrity? However, now, as she looked at the sea of people, she trembled in Cecily's arms. These fans were just too wild...
Cecily looked up at the familiar face encircled by the crowd. The man was dressed in fashionable attire, topped with a black cap, his handsome face under the cap emotionless.
Aurelie, seeing that the man was about to leave, grew anxious. They didn't have Evander's contact details, and scheduling a meeting was impossible. They had obtained news of his return to the country with great difficulty, and missing him now could mean they'd never be able to locate him again.
Resolved, Aurelie steeled her nerves and pulled Cecily forward. "Let's go."
"What?" Cecily was taken aback.
Aurelie, leading the charge with Cecily in tow, attempted to push through the throng of people, but she had underestimated the strength of the fans. In the chaos, the two women nearly fell.
Not one to give up easily, Aurelie shouted, "Make way, make way! There's a pregnant woman here, she's going to fall!"
Cecily looked at Aurelie in shock.
Pregnant woman?
Aurelie winked at Cecily.
The message was clear: Play along.
If a pregnant woman was in danger of falling, that was a serious matter. Those who heard also started shouting, "Stop pushing, everybody! Stop, there's a pregnant woman falling!"
Not only the fans quieted down, but Evander, encased in the crowd, also heard. His indifferent gaze swept over and landed on the pair. Removing his sunglasses, his eyes showed a flash of surprise, "Cecily?"
He tried to approach, but couldn't move an inch. Frustrated, he called out sternly, "Stop pushing, everyone, just stop!"
His voice was magnetic yet cold, and a number of fans calmed down a bit.
His agent, headache brewing over Evander's volatile temper, knew that if this episode was recorded and spun into a scandalous piece, it could lead to yet another trending topic on social media.
Hastily, the agent addressed the crowd, "Please, everyone, be careful not to push. Evander is concerned for your safety. Watch your step and be mindful of those around you, thank you."
No sooner had the agent finished speaking, he turned to check on the others, only to find that they had vanished. When he eventually spotted them, Evander was already by Cecily's side, supporting her.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
Cecily quickly shook her head, "It's nothing."
The agent's eyes were nearly bulging out of his skull.
She might be fine, but it was him who was really in trouble. Being an agent was no easy gig.
Evander Lockwood's gaze was fixed firmly on Cecily's face, his voice gentle, "Are you here to pick me up?"
"We'd like to discuss a potential collaboration with you, if you're available."
"I'm available."
The agent hurried over to interject, "Sorry, but Evander still has matters to attend to. We can discuss any collaboration later."
Evander Lockwood glanced at the agent, "I said I'm available."
The expression on the agent's and the several assistants' faces nearby stiffened.
'Alright, he's the boss. If he says he's available, then he's available.'
