Chapter 493 Played a Part in My Death

Steven glanced at the empty car interior and instantly became furious. "How dare you deceive me!"

Bryan quickly looked into the car.

Cecily was gone!

Bryan's brow furrowed deeply.

Steven immediately pointed the gun at Freya's head.

With a "bang," the gun went off.

Freya clutched her head and screamed continuously.

"No!" Bryan shouted, his face turning pale.

"Where is she? If I don't see Cecily, I promise the next bullet will go into your daughter's head," Steven warned through gritted teeth.

Freya's face turned pale as she lay on the ground, too scared to even cry.

Bryan clenched his jaw. He truly didn't know where Cecily had gone. She was still in the car before he made the call, so how could she have disappeared?

"Steven, she is over there." One of men suddenly pointed to a figure moving quickly in the rain.

It was a woman's figure.

It was Cecily.

Steven gave a sinister smile. "There you go. What are you waiting for? Chase her!"

Steven ordered a few men to capture Cecily.

Cecily sprinted through the muddy, rain-slicked road, the torrential downpour blurring her vision. The branches of trees scratched at her arms and legs, leaving a mix of shallow and deep cuts, but she couldn't afford to care about that right now.

She had to keep running, every step taken with extra caution to avoid slipping. It's okay she slipped, but she couldn't risk harming the baby in her belly.

When she woke up in the car, she realized she was in an unfamiliar place. Bryan was outside, on the phone, and with the window not properly shut, Cecily could hear snippets of his conversation.

It seemed like Vivienne was desperately telling Bryan that she was his biological daughter.

But Bryan didn't seem to believe it.

Initially, Cecily didn't know why she was brought here.

But with Freya kidnapped and Bryan knocking her out and bringing her to a remote place, what else could it be for?

Other than using her as a bargaining chip, Cecily couldn't think of any other possibility.

Thinking about it, Cecily found it both ironic and sad.

Her biological father, Bryan, was going to exchange her life for Freya's.

Sometimes Cecily felt like her life was a joke; she couldn't even cry.

Gunshots rang out behind her, but the men didn't rush to chase her. Instead, they cheered excitedly, knowing that a woman—one who was pregnant and defenseless—was trapped in an unfamiliar and desolate place. Cecily had no way out, and no one to come to her aid.

Bullets whizzed by, each missed shot a deliberate and perverse pleasure for them.

They wanted to instill fear in their prey, then gradually tighten their encirclement, giving the prey a glimpse of hope only to plunge them into endless despair.

And part of that despair was brought by Bryan.

Cecily didn't dare look back, but fear gripped her heart. In an alien environment with a pack of maniacs on her tail, it was impossible not to be scared.

The cold rain kept falling, soaking her clothes and making them heavier. She found it increasingly difficult to run, but she couldn't stop.

All she could do was run and delay, there was no other way.

Given the depravity of her pursuers, Cecily knew their methods were anything but ordinary. If she fell into their hands, the torture would be the least of her worries—her unborn child wouldn't survive.

Torture and miscarriage—under their cruel hands, both she and her baby would face certain death.

So what could Cecily do? She could only stay calm and keep running.

"Don't hurt her!" Bryan shouted angrily as he watched the scene.

Steven found it amusing. "Bryan, are you kidding? When you chose to save your daughter, what happens to Cecily willno longer up to you. In fact, everything she's going through now is because of your choice, isn't it?"

Steven laughed, his laughter filled with excitement and perversion.

He ordered his men, "Capture her alive."

One of his men walked up to him and whispered, "The boss said to capture the target quickly and leave, no more delays."

Steven glanced at Bryan ahead. "Got it, how boring."

He then ordered his men to capture Cecily immediately.

"Cecily is already in your hands. Release my daughter." Bryan said.

Steven, somewhat trustworthy, waved his hand, signaling his men to release Freya.

Freya was finally rescued. She threw herself at Bryan. "Dad."

Bryan immediately supported the injured Freya. Freya weakly collapsed into Bryan's arms, clutching his sleeve tightly in fear. "Dad, take me away. I don't want to stay here. Take me away, I'm scared."

"But Cecily..." Bryan hesitated.

"Forget about Cecily. She can figure it out herself. I just want to go back. I'm really in pain. I need treatment, Dad." Freya cried loudly.

Bryan checked Freya's injuries. From a distance, the blood looked alarming, but in reality, Freya only had superficial wounds, mostly on her arms and legs, which were visible but not life-threatening.

Bryan found it strange. These people seemed to have sophisticated methods of torture and kept saying they wanted to kill Freya, but the injuries on her were only superficial. It didn't make sense.

"Dad, can we go back? I'm in so much pain, I'm coldscared." Freya's crying interrupted Bryan's thoughts.

Bryan couldn't think much more. With these people around, it was impossible for him to save both Freya and Cecily by himself, so he could only save Freya first.

He believed that after he received Vivienne's call, she must have tracked their location, and her people should be on their way. Cecily wouldn't be left without help.

As Bryan thought this, footsteps approached from behind. Steven's men had captured Cecily.

Bryan's gaze shifted to Cecily, and his heart suddenly tightened, as if something was gripping it, making it hard to breathe.

He met Cecily's eyes, which were pure, candid, and filled with despair. It was as if she had already anticipated that she couldn't escape from the moment she was brought here.

Her look was filled with despair and irony, but it held no trace of pleading.

Because she knew Bryan wouldn't save her.

Bryan understood the emotions in Cecily's eyes. She believed he wouldn't save her, so she didn't even bother to ask for help.

Compared to Freya, Cecily's situation was more dangerous, but it was Freya who was crying and shouting in fear, while Cecily showed no signs of panic or weakness.

Was she scared?

In such a situation, no one wouldn't be scared.

Bryan couldn't look at Cecily any longer. His heart felt like a piece had been torn out, leaving an empty void, as if something was gone forever.

Cecily was captured, and Freya was rescued by Bryan. Their fates would be completely different.

"Bryan, we've returned your daughter as agreed. Now take her and leave immediately. What happens next has nothing to do with you," Steven said coldly.

"What are you going to do to Cecily?" Bryan asked.

Steven glanced at Cecily and gave an evil smile. "Since she's in our hands now, her life or death is no longer your concern. Take care of your own people and leave quickly."

"Dad, let's go, please. Let's not worry about her. I don't want to stay here. I'm scared." Freya continued to cry.

Freya wished Cecily would die in their hands and didn't want Bryan to care about Cecily. Without Cecily, Bryan would be her father and hers alone forever.

Cecily looked at Bryan's hesitant face and found it laughable.

She thought, 'Since he has already handed me over, what is he hesitating about now?'

"Bryan, if I die here today, remember, you played a part in my death."
