Chapter 640 The Feeling of the Last Meeting

"That's nuts. Nobody wants a lose-lose deal. Just let her go first, and I'm sure he'll let us walk too," Isadora kept trying to get through to Stanley, hoping he'd back down.

But convincing a stubborn mule? Yeah, right.

Stanley was convinced Lillian had a point. Aurelie was Nathaniel's Achilles' heel. As long as they had her, they were safe and could keep pushing Nathaniel's buttons.

"Nathaniel, I'm saying it one more time, take your crew and scram," Stanley yelled.

Nathaniel narrowed his eyes and raised his hand, his guys pointing their guns right at Stanley.

Stanley ducked behind Aurelie, smirking, and gave his crew a nod.

In a flash, Stanley's guys turned their guns on Aurelie.

Stanley yanked Aurelie closer and shouted at Nathaniel, "Go ahead, Nathaniel, try me. You make a move, and I swear Aurelie and her baby are both done for."

Stanley was betting Nathaniel wouldn't risk Aurelie's life.

"What about your kid?" Nathaniel glanced at the crying child.

Stanley sneered, "You think grabbing my wife and kid scares me? Keep dreaming. I don't bow to threats."

"Stanley, you jerk," Isadora felt a chill hearing Stanley's words. Even if there was no love left, they'd been together for years, and Marshall was his son. How could he be so heartless?

"Daddy, help me!" The kid reached out, crying his heart out.

Nathaniel frowned, his eyes dark as night. After a beat, he raised his hand, signaling his crew to hold off.

"Yeah, that's right. Don't let Aurelie go, and he won't dare do anything," Lillian said smugly, still by Stanley's side, egging him on.

Nathaniel squinted, raised his hand, and shot Lillian in the knee.

Lillian screamed in pain, collapsing to the ground, "Nathaniel!" She never saw it coming.

"You're too loud," Nathaniel said coldly, holstering his gun.

Nathaniel's sudden shot cranked up the tension on both sides.

Stanley was now even more on edge. That shot showed Nathaniel had some serious aim.

"Let Aurelie go, and I'll come over. My guys will let them both go, and they'll leave," Nathaniel put his weapon down, raising his hands, making his final offer.

"What's the point of holding Aurelie and dragging this out?" Nathaniel raised his hands and stepped closer, "Let her go, and we'll settle this ourselves."

Everyone knew they were at a deadlock.

With Aurelie in Stanley's grip, Nathaniel couldn't make a move.

And Stanley's wife and kid were in Nathaniel's grip. Even though Stanley claimed he wouldn't be threatened, could he really ignore their lives?

"Hold up," Stanley fired a shot near Nathaniel, "How do I know you're not pulling another trick? If you're serious, let Isadora and Marshall go first, then we'll talk."

Nathaniel glanced at the huddled Isadora and Marshall. After a couple of seconds, he waved his hand.

His crew looked puzzled.

"Let them go," Nathaniel ordered.

Even Stanley was taken aback, not expecting Nathaniel to agree so easily.

The more Nathaniel played it cool, the more uneasy Stanley felt.

Isadora and Marshall were released, and she quickly led the kid towards Stanley. Just as Stanley nervously watched them, fearing Nathaniel might pull something, Nathaniel suddenly lunged, grabbed Aurelie from Stanley, and shoved her towards his crew.

Stanley's eyes widened, and, in panic, he shot Nathaniel in the shoulder.

"Nathaniel!" Aurelie, now safe with Nathaniel's people, heard the gunshot and her heart clenched.

She turned to see Nathaniel had been shot by Stanley and, without a weapon, was now under Stanley's control.

Stanley, furious, grabbed Nathaniel and pointed a gun at his head, "You really wanna die, huh?"

Nathaniel glanced at the now-safe Aurelie and smiled calmly at the raging Stanley, "I said we'd settle this ourselves. Now that you've got me, there's no need for a lose-lose."

Stanley's eyes burned with anger, "You think you're some kind of hero? Tell your people to get out."

Both sides were at a standoff. With Aurelie protected by Nathaniel's crew, capturing her again was tough. Stanley had to compromise and take Nathaniel away.

Nathaniel gave his crew a look, signaling them to leave first.

"Miss Miller, we need to go," a subordinate grabbed Aurelie, trying to lead her away.

Aurelie anxiously looked at Nathaniel, "What about Nathaniel?"

"He probably has a plan. We need to leave first to keep you safe," the subordinate quickly led Aurelie away.

Aurelie kept looking back at Nathaniel. When their eyes met, it seemed like Nathaniel smiled at her.

He smiled easily, but Aurelie's heart felt like it was in a vise, beating faster than ever.

"No, I'm not leaving!" She pushed away the person trying to take her.

She didn't want to leave; she couldn't leave.

She suddenly had a gut feeling this might be the last time she saw him.
