Chapter 513 Apologies to Cecily

"What do you mean? I don't get it," Percy certainly wouldn't admit.

"You don't understand? You sent someone to tell me Cecily was in danger and needed saving, and then..."

"Then what happened? Did I lie to you? Wasn't Cecily in danger and needed saving?"

Evander's hand, veins bulging, gripped the bottle tightly. "And then you had your people among those I brought, and they shot at Cecily!"

Percy's eyebrows twitched, and he sat up straight, looking seriously at Evander.

"Tell me what happened at that time."

Percy had only given the order that Cecily's child couldn't be kept, but he really didn't know what happened on the scene.

After all, none of the people he and Josep sent out came back alive. The lone survivor, Colin, was visibly terrified and shaken by the experience.

So, he could only guess the outcome from scattered information, but he had no idea about the specific process.

"What's there to say? Cecily got shot, the child is gone, and there were only a few people present: a group of kidnappers, Blaise's people, and the people I brought. The kidnappers were tied up by Blaise's people, and Blaise's people wouldn't harm Cecily. The shooter could only be among the people I brought! And the people I brought were your people. What did Cecily ever do to you? She has no grudge against you. Why would you harm her?"

Evander slammed the table in anger, questioning Percy.

He really couldn't understand why Percy would harm Cecily. Cecily had no grudge against the Lockwood family; Bella even liked Cecily a lot.

Percy's eyes shifted. "You said it was just you guys there at the time. What about Darian?"

Having promised not to reveal that Darian hadn't lost his memory, Evander said, "He wasn't there; he had already rescued Freya and left."

"Did he really just rescue Freya and leave Cecily behind?"

"What else?"

Percy smiled. Hearing Evander say this, he instantly felt relieved, and his plan was considered successful.

Darian rescued Freya and left Cecily behind. Cecily's child was gone. Everything was going according to his plan.

The only variable in his plan was Blaise. If it weren't for Blaise suddenly appearing, his plan would have been perfect.

"Let me ask you. Did Blaise find any evidence proving that the shooter was one of our people?"

Evander gritted his teeth. "Do you think he would let me go if he had evidence?"

Percy laughed. "Then that's it. You said there were other people there besides the ones you brought. We have no grudge against Cecily. Who can prove it was your people who fired the shot? Maybe it was Josep's people hiding somewhere who fired the shot."

"Sure enough, you and Josep are in cahoots," Evander said.

Percy glanced at Evander. "Don't say it so harshly. I'm doing all this for you, for our family."

"Ridiculous." Evander shook his head and turned to leave.

"Where are you going?" Percy called after Evander. "What? Are you going to tell Cecily about this? And then let Blaise come and put a knife to my throat?"

Evander turned back. "Are you afraid? Why didn't you think about the consequences when you were harming others?"

"What kind of attitude is that? Is that how you talk to me?"

"What attitude do you want? You are full of schemes and calculations. Aren't you tired? The Lockwood family is already doing well enough. Sometimes you need to know when to stop, or you'll drive yourself into a dead end."

With that, Evander kicked the door open and stormed out.

"You! Someone! Keep an eye on him! Don't let him step out without my permission." Percy was furious.

Evander had just descended the stairs when he ran into Landon, who had just returned. Landon gave Evander a cold look and, seeing the tense atmosphere at home, sneered. "Are you really going to report him?"

Evander frowned. "You knew all along?"

Landon didn't hide it and raised an eyebrow. "I had warned you not to go, but you didn't listen. How do you think he knew so clearly where Cecily was being kidnapped?"

Evander's hand clenched tightly, emitting an audible sound. "Couldn't you have made your warning more obvious?"

Landon smiled, walked over to Evander, and patted his shoulder heavily. "I warned you, not for you, but because I once owed Cecily. So I gave you a kind reminder. But don't forget, my last name is Lockwood. I can help her, but I won't betray Percy. Understand?"

Evander glared at Landon. "Birds of a feather."

"And what about you, Evander? What are you? Don't forget, everything you have was given to you by Percy and the Lockwood family. Without the Lockwood family backing you, do you think you could have made it big in the entertainment industry and become a superstar? You're also enjoying the benefits we 'birds of a feather' have gained, aren't you?"

Evander gritted his teeth, unable to refute these words.

"So, think carefully about what to do next." With that, Landon walked upstairs.

Evander stood there, frozen. Those words echoed in his ears repeatedly. He had promised to give Cecily an explanation, but now he couldn't take a step forward.

For a moment, various complex emotions intertwined: guilt, anger and self-blame. He was deeply entangled in these emotions.

Finally, Evander punched the nearby railing and turned to stride back to his room.

The door slammed shut.

The force was so great that even the door frame shook.

He leaned against the door, looking up in self-reproach.

He had let Cecily down, but he really couldn't bring himself to report or betray Percy.

He had witnessed the cold-blooded terror of Darian and Blaise, especially Blaise, who was practically a demon. He couldn't imagine what would happen to Percy if Blaise found out about this.

He was sorry, but he really couldn't do it.

All he could do now was not participate in their struggles and schemes. He wouldn't help Percy, and he wouldn't tell Percy that Darian hadn't lost his memory and knew everything. He also couldn't inform Cecily of Percy's actions. "Cecily, I'm sorry!" he could only apologize to Cecily in his heart.

In the ward, Cecily didn't get a response from Evander.

Regarding this matter, Cecily had no answers either because she didn't know why the Lockwood family would target her.

She took a deep breath, and Darian handed her a cup of hot water. "Stop waiting. There won't be any news. Even if he knows, he won't help you."

Cecily's eyes flickered. "Evander is not a bad person."

"But he will hesitate on this matter," Darian said confidently.

"You've already guessed who did this, haven't you?"
