Chapter 699 The Ring is Mine
Giselle gave Imogen a seemingly kind look and said, "Imogen, just do me a favor. As long as Cecily apologizes to you, can we let this matter go?"
Imogen raised an eyebrow. "No way. This ring was left to me by my mother and holds great significance. They almost stole it, and that makes me very angry. If their apology doesn't satisfy me, I won't just let it go."
"Cecily, did you hear that? You'd better apologize quickly," Giselle pressed on.
"I didn't steal anything, so why should I apologize?" Cecily replied coldly, her attitude firm.
"Then there's no other way. Ms. Bennett refuses to apologize, but I have my temper too. My ring was almost stolen by you, and I'm very angry. If you don't want to apologize now, fine. Cecilia, call the police for me. We'll wait for the police to handle this," Imogen threatened.
Giselle gave her a look of approval.
This made Imogen even more excited. Initially, she had concerns about Cecily's status, but now she had no reservations and became more and more aggressive.
"Cecily, did you hear that? If you don't apologize, this will become a big issue. Theft is a crime that can lead to a sentence. Don't ruin the Bennett family's reputation over something like this," Giselle interjected.
Giselle raised an eyebrow at Cecily, the smug look in her eyes almost making Cecily laugh.
Cecily gave a slight smile. Seeing Cecily still able to smile, Giselle thought she didn't understand the seriousness of the situation.
This party was attended by high society. If her son was exposed as a thief in front of so many people, it would be a huge disgrace.
Soon, the whole of Detroit would know her son was a thief, and she would have no dignity left in Detroit.
"I said, why don't you take another look at whether this ring is really yours?" Cecily reminded them again.
"Make sure to look carefully," Griffin also reminded.
The three were so confident that they naturally wouldn't look closely at the ring again.
Griffin chuckled behind them, thinking, 'We already gave them a heads-up. If they don't listen, it's on them.'"Even if I look at it a million times, this ring is still mine. I really don't understand why you keep arguing that this ring is yours," Imogen retorted.
"Cecilia, they are so ungrateful, there's no need to waste words with them. Just call the police for me," she added, pretending to be angry.
Cecilia really took out her phone and called the police.
It was clear they wanted to blow this matter up, making it known to everyone and thoroughly embarrassing them.
Imogen said to Giselle, "Giselle, I've already given them several chances for your sake, but they refuse to apologize. There's nothing I can do; I have to let the police handle it."
Giselle sighed. "Cecily, I really tried to help you, but you are being stubborn. There's nothing I can do."
Imogen said, "Everyone, please bear witness. They stole my ring, and I gave them a chance, but they refused. There's nothing I can do."
The people around nodded.
"It really is too much. They took someone else's thing, and when the owner is anxiously looking for it, they still deny it. It's really too much."
"Miss Fairfax is really patient, giving them so many chances, but they don't appreciate it and refuse to apologize. They are so shameless."
"Stealing someone else's ring and then claiming it's theirs, it's really too much. We can't stand it. I've never seen a mother like this, not teaching her child after they stole something, but helping them lie."
The voices of criticism grew louder. Under everyone's gaze, Cecily strode forward and snatched the ring from Imogen's hand.
"What is she doing? Is she still trying to snatch the ring?"
"Is she crazy?"
Cecily ignored the voices around her, her eyes fixed on Imogen.
Imogen angrily said, "Cecily, are you crazy? Are you still trying to snatch my ring?"
At this moment, the police arrived.
The police showed their badges and said, "We received a report of theft here. Who called the police?"
Cecilia immediately walked to the police and said, "My friend's diamond ring was stolen, and the thief refuses to admit it. It's them, and now this woman has snatched the ring."
"This ring is mine. You took my ring and claimed it was yours, slandering my son for theft. This matter can't be settled easily today," Cecily said loudly.
Giselle frowned. "Cecily, are you really crazy? You're still making these excuses at this point."
Cecily ignored Giselle and grabbed Imogen's hand, asking, "Which finger do you usually wear the ring on?"
Imogen didn't know why Cecily was asking this but still raised her left middle finger. "I wear it on this finger. Why?"
"Are you sure?"
"Of course, I always wear this ring on this finger. They can all vouch for me."
After Imogen finished speaking, Cecily directly put the ring on her middle finger, but it got stuck at the second knuckle and wouldn't go in.
Cecily applied some force, and Imogen yelped in pain, shaking her hand free. "Cecily, what are you doing?"
"Didn't you say it was your ring? Why doesn't it fit?" Cecily asked coldly.
"What's going on? The ring doesn't seem to fit Miss Fairfax's finger."
"Yeah, what's happening?"
Giselle felt a wave of panic.
Imogen's eyes widened. "What do you mean it doesn't fit? How could my own ring not fit my finger?"
