Chapter 112 Cecily Was Followed

Just moments before, Aurelie had thought Cecily's voice sounded strange. Now, seeing the marks on Cecily's neck, she instantly understood why her voice had sounded so odd.

"What has that jerk done to you?" Cecily shook her head as a tear unintentionally fell from her eyes, "Nothing much..."

Seeing Cecily in such a distressed state, Aurelie quickly embraced her. "Don't cry, it's all right."

Cecily gently closed her eyes, not wanting to say anything more, and Aurelie didn't pry further.

...

In the days following, Cecily hadn't seen Darian. Griffin informed her that Darian had gone on a business trip and wouldn't be home for a few days.

Hearing this news, Cecily didn't show much emotion. It was Griffin who couldn't stand being at Fitzgerald's Household any longer and insisted that Cecily come to pick him up.

Cecily wanted to see her son, of course, so that she couldn't refuse.

After work, Cecily went to fetch Rowan and then went to the school to pick up Griffin.

By the time Cecily arrived, Griffin was already waiting outside the school gates. The little fellow had his backpack on, one hand tucked into his pocket, while the other held a small snack he was eating leisurely.

Just then, another boy walked by Griffin and glanced at him. With a snort and a disdainful tone, he said, "That’s the kind of stuff we give to my dog."

"Oh, even if you say that, I won't give any to you," Griffin responded with a smile to the other boy.

The boy blinked, chewing over Griffin's words before he realized what was said. "You're the puppy, Rowan."

"Quiet down, puppy. It's unseemly to bark in public."

The boy was left seething with anger while Griffin turned away from him.

He glanced toward the entrance, and upon seeing Cecily's car, his eyes brightened, and he ran toward her.

The wind tousled his soft hair as he called, "Mommy!"

Cecily rolled down the window, a smile spreading across her face as she watched Griffin run toward her, "Slow down."

"I finally get to be with Mommy again. That's so great," Griffin said as he climbed into the back seat. Seeing Rowan already there, the brothers immediately embraced each other.

"Rowan, we're finally together again."

"Mm-hmm, long time no see, Griffin."

Cecily felt something was off as she listened, "You two have met before?"

If she remembered correctly, besides interacting over their phones, this was the first official face-to-face meeting for the two kids.

Griffin's eyes shifted, "Mom, you start driving. We'll talk about this later in detail."

Cecily glanced back at the two little guys, who were definitely hiding something from her. "Fine, explain it all to me when we get home."

Cecily drove away.

Meanwhile, across the street, a sleek black car remained parked.

"Mr. Fitzgerald, the young master, has been picked up by Miss Cecily," Larkin reported.

The car window rolled down, and Darian narrowed his eyes as he watched Cecily's car, furrowing his brows.

Since that night, he hadn't sought out Cecily again, and of course, that woman wouldn't take the initiative to contact him either.

Just thinking about the words Cecily had said filled him with uncontrollable anger.

"Mr. Fitzgerald?" Seeing no response from Darian, Larkin called out again softly.

"Mm, I know." The kid had already told him, and he agreed, "Pick him up later."

"Yes." Larkin looked at his Boss's face through the rearview mirror.

Mr. Fitzgerald's mood had been extremely foul these past few days. Secretaries at the company had been reduced to tears by him on several occasions.

During department head meetings, everyone was on edge, terrified of making any mistake.

No one knew why Mr. Fitzgerald was in such a bad mood.

He had even sought advice from Hayden and Declan, only to be bluntly told, "Some things are not meant to be revealed."

Larkin felt like crying but had no tears.

...

On the drive home, the two kids came clean to Cecily about having previously known and communicated with each other. They also confessed to having switched identities.

Cecily was taken aback.

These two little rascals had already played the old switcheroo.

No wonder Griffin had been so familiar with the Fitzgerald family's place on their first visit; he had already spent some time there.

The little guy managed to pull a fast one right under Darian's nose.

Cecily couldn't help but be impressed with her two sons.

It was key that even she hadn't recognized them.

Looking back, it was clear that the two boys were very different from each other.

For instance, Griffin loved snacks and ate like a little piglet, always eager to clean his plate at every meal.

Meanwhile, Rowan ate with proper manners, stopping when full and never overindulgent, even with the most delicious foods.

Griffin made a fuss when going to sleep and had a habit of lounging in bed in the morning.

While Rowan went to bed on time and woke up punctually, never giving her any trouble.

There had been a time when she thought Griffin had grown up and become sensible.

Well, it turned out she'd been dealing with a switch-up of her sons.

The corner of Cecily’s mouth twitched, "You two..."

"Mom, blame me. It was my idea," Griffin stepped forward.

Rowan added, "Mom shouldn’t blame Griffin. He was just trying to help me. If anyone, blame me."

"That's not right. It's my fault for forcing him," the other countered.

"I did it willingly, don't blame Griffin..."

"Okay, stop, stop, stop." Cecily couldn't help but laugh as she saw them arguing over who should take the blame. "Did I say I was going to blame you?"

The two little ones pursed their lips in unison and looked up at Cecily with big, earnest eyes.

Facing those bright, sparkling eyes, Cecily couldn’t bring herself to be upset with them.

"I'm not upset. Just let me know next time before you do something like this, so your mom has a heads-up, all right?"

Otherwise, her heart couldn’t take such surprises.

"Got it, Mom," the two little ones chorused.

Cecily parked the car in the spot and turned back to look at her sons, her smile softening.

"Out of the car, let’s head home," Griffin said happily.

Cecily's expression sharpened as the boys were about to get out, "Wait."

"What’s up, Mom?"

Cecily narrowed her eyes and peered through the rear window, spotting someone with a camera next to a black car not far away.

She frowned; after not finding the children at her place last time, Ophelia and Elysia surely wouldn’t let things lie.

She had seen too many of these sneaky observers in the past couple of days, but she had managed to avoid them all.

They were clearly frustrated at not being able to capture anything useful. They were so close this time that it was almost like they were doing it out in the open.

Cecily coolly curled her lip, "You guys stay in the car. Mommy has to take care of something."

With that said Cecily opened the car door and stepped out.
