Chapter 467 Learning the Truth
"Miss Watson's got a sharp eye."
"Of course." Darian adjusted his diamond cufflinks. "Good job, you can clock out. I'll double your salary this month."
Double pay?
Larkin's eyes lit up.
And the best part? His boss had actually said "good job" and sounded... gentle.
Gentle? That word never fit Darian.
But since Cecily had come back, everything had changed. Darian probably hadn't even noticed his own transformation.
Larkin stood there, thinking about the past year without Cecily. Even though Darian had lost his memory, he was like a soulless shell, always losing his temper.
The tough days were finally over.
Larkin felt like he was flying.
Cecily spent the night chatting with Aurelie, comforting her. Then she tucked in Rowan and Griffin before yawning and heading to her room.
As soon as she entered, she sensed something was off. She reached for the light, but a tall figure loomed over her.
Cecily's heart skipped a beat, and she got ready to fight.
Next thing she knew, she was in Darian's arms.
Her nose brushed his chest, and the familiar scent told her who it was. She looked up and met his deep eyes in the dark.
"Darian?"
Cecily was surprised, her voice rising. "When..."
She was about to ask when he had arrived, but Darian's kiss cut her off.
Cecily's palms tightened, but she didn't push him away. She wrapped her arms around him.
Feeling her response, Darian got bolder, pressing her against the wall for another kiss.
Cecily was dizzy from the kiss andleaned against Darian's chest, gasping. "When did you get here?"
As Darian held her, his earlier gloom vanished. "Just now."
"Just now? You sneaked into my room, weren't you afraid of getting caught?"
"I'm not afraid, I can always sneak in again," Darian said, looking noble but sounding cheeky.
Cecily couldn't help but smile.
"How is she? Feeling better?"
Cecily knew he meant Aurelie. "Did you know Nathaniel's getting engaged?"
Darian raised an eyebrow. "No, to who?"
"Lillian."
Darian nodded.
"You know her too?" Cecily asked.
"They grew up together, but that's all I know. If you want more details, ask Hayden. He knows a lot. Want me to call him?"
"No need, it's too late to bother him."
"True, middle of the night is for sleeping." Darian looked at Cecily, then suddenly picked her up.
"Darian, what are you doing?"
He carried her straight to the bathroom.
Cecily found herself on the sink, watching Darian remove his tie.
She put a hand on his chest. "No, you're still injured."
"A little injury won't kill me."
"Still, better to be cautious."
Seeing her worried look, Darian sighed. "Fine, let's just take a bath and sleep."
Cecily watched as he filled the tub and started undressing her.
"Darian, your intentions are obvious."
"Really?" He smiled, undressing himself.
Cecily blushed, her heart racing at the sight of his well-defined muscles.
Strong arms lifted her into the tub.
As she leaning against his chest, he lifted her chin, and Darian kissed her gently.
Cecily responded, the bathroom air heating up. She knew this was part of his plan.
Just as he was about to take the next step, Cecily slipped away.
Darian saw her move away, feeling the emptiness. "Darian, I really don't feel well today, and you shouldn't exert yourself either."
He frowned, pulling her back. "Are you okay?"
"I'm a little dizzy, probably just tired from today."
Darian brushed her wet hair aside, seeing her fatigue. He suppressed his desire. "Alright, let's finish bathing and go to sleep."
Cecily nodded. When she looked down, she blushed. "You can wash yourself. I'll go to bed first. I left some clothes for you in the closet."
She wrapped herself in a towel and quickly ran out.
Darian chuckled at her retreating figure.
When he came out of the bathroom, Cecily was already asleep. He walked over, gently tidied her damp hair, found a towel and hairdryer, and dried her hair on the lowest setting.
Despite the noise, Cecily didn't wake up. She just turned over lazily.
After finishing her hair, Darian got into bed, pulling her into his arms and closing his eyes contentedly.
Cecily usually woke up early, but today she slept deeply, and Darian didn't disturb her.
When she finally woke up, the room was empty. She checked the time; it was already ten o'clock.
Cecily quickly got up and went downstairs, spotting Vivienne in the living room. "Mom, where's Aurelie?"
"She went to work. Hurry and have your breakfast. Oh, and Darian asked me to tell you he'll pick you and the kids up tonight for dinner at Fitzgerald Manor."
Cecily's heart skipped a beat. "Mom, did you catch him again?"
Vivienne smiled gently. "I noticed him last night. Our bodyguards aren't just for show. How could they miss someone like him sneaking in?"
Cecily was speechless.
After breakfast, she went to work. In the afternoon, Darian personally came to pick up Cecily, Rowan, and Griffin to go to Fitzgerald Manor.
Sandra and Owen had missed Rowan and Griffin a lot, and Cecily was happy to bring them over.
"Great-grandpa, grandma!" The quiet living room suddenly echoed with Rowan and Griffin's voices.
Owen and Sandra immediately looked up, their faces lighting up with surprise as they saw the kids running towards them.
"Rowan, Griffin, what brings you here?"
Sandra happily held their little hands.
"Daddy and Mommy brought us here." Griffin pointed behind him.
Cecily and Darian walked in afterward. Owen was surprised that Cecily would bring the kids over.
Owen knew Cecily was unhappy with how he had handled Josep and thought she might retaliate by not letting them see the kids.
But Cecily's expression was calm as she stood beside Darian with a faint smile.
Owen lowered his gaze, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes.
Fitzgerald Manor was rarely this lively. Sandra immediately had the chef prepare more food, and the family sat down to a warm meal together.
Sandra noticed Cecily eating very little and asked, "Cecily, is the food not to your taste?"
Cecily shook her head. "No, it's just me. I haven't had much of an appetite lately, probably because the weather is getting warmer."
Owen glanced at Cecily and said in a neutral tone, "You should still eat something. I'll have the chef make you something light."
Cecily was about to say it wasn't necessary, but Owen had already given the order.
So, Cecily said nothing more. After dinner, Sandra wanted Cecily, Rowan, and Griffin to stay over, but since Josep's family was living in the backyard, she thought better of it to avoid any trouble.
At that moment, Josep was in the backyard holding a bottle of clear liquid, his eyes narrowing dangerously.
"Just a little bottle of this can turn Darian into an idiot?"
"That's right. This is a memory-erasing and hallucinogenic drug, similar to what was used on him before, but much stronger. Overuse can overwhelm the brain, it won't just make him an idiot, it might potentially kill him," Eliza said sinisterly.
This was exactly what Josep wanted. "Good, I understand. If this works, I'll make sure to get you out."
Eliza smirked. "I hope you keep your word."
Josep left with the drug, while Eliza stayed in her room, continuing to act like a fool.
Josep returned to his room, feeling unprecedentedly pleased. As long as he found the right time to use this drug on Darian, Darian would be completely ruined.
Just the thought of it made him happy.
The next few days were unusually peaceful for Cecily.
Darian came to see her every night, and Vivienne tacitly allowed it, pretending not to notice.
Bryan occasionally came to see Vivienne, but she mostly refused to see him. Eventually, Bryan had no choice but to stop Cecily and tell her that once Freya recovered a bit more, he would send her back to Riverview.
It was a sunny weekend, and Cecily planned to take the kids to see Darian and have lunch together. But she received a call from Owen.
"Rowan, Griffin, get in the car. I need to take a call."
Cecily walked aside with her phone.
Before she could speak, Owen said, "Come to Fitzgerald Manor right away."
"Is it urgent? Did something happen?"
"Just come over."
Owen's voice sounded more somber than usual, which made Cecily feel uneasy. Nothing had happened recently, and Owen had only called for her, not Darian!
Cecily wondered if Owen had found out something about Patrick's car accident.
Frowning, Cecily didn't ask any more questions and simply said, "Okay, I'll be right there."
Cecily hung up and regretfully looked at Rowan and Griffin. "Sorry, kids, I can't take you to see Daddy right now. Great-grandpa needs to see me urgently."
Rowan and Griffin looked disappointed. Rowan asked, "Mommy, is it really urgent?"
"It sounds like it is."
"Alright then, Mommy, come back soon."
Cecily had Rowan and Griffin stay home and then went to Fitzgerald Manor.
Owen's study was deathly silent.
Owen flipped through the pages in his hand, feeling intense pain in his heart. His aged body staggered uncontrollably.
Sawyer quickly stepped forward to support Owen. "Owen, you have to hold on."
Owen forcefully pushed Sawyer's hand away, feeling a heart-wrenching pain like never before.
If anyone else had done this, it wouldn't hurt this much.
Why? Why did it have to be Josep, his son?
His son had killed his other son.
"My son, my son!"
Sawyer's eyes widened. "Owen!"
When Cecily pushed the door open, she saw Owen's face twisted in pain, and a mouthful of bright red blood spurted from his mouth.
Cecily froze for a moment, then immediately rushed over.
