Chapter 425 I Never Lie
Cecily stared at her laptop screen, scrolling down with a sigh. "The person who hired assassins to hurt me saved Rowan. She's still in surgery, and we don't know if she'll make it. Plus, someone's protecting her. If we act without proof, we'll be in the wrong. We need evidence first."
Blaise didn't say anything, just handed the laptop to Cassian. "Go investigate."
"Got it."
After giving the order, Blaise started pushing Cecily out.
Quentin, who'd been ignored, struggled to speak. "Don't leave! I've done everything you asked. When will you let me go?"
"Come back! Blaise, Cecily, come back and let me go."
Cecily glanced back at Quentin, about to say something, but Blaise cut her off. "Don't bother with him."
"He might actually be innocent this time. His people are reasonable. If no one had shot from behind, they would have backed off."
Blaise gave her a quick look. "Don't be too soft-hearted. He can't even control his own people. He's not innocent."
Cecily pressed her lips together and stopped speaking for Quentin.
Quentin kept shouting angrily, "Blaise, I know you haven't forgotten about the finger, and you're using this to get back at me."
"The finger!" Cecily's brow furrowed, and she pressed down on the wheelchair, her voice growing heavier. "Was it him who did that to your hand?"
Blaise frowned and signaled to a nearby subordinate, who immediately went over and gagged Quentin.
"It happened during a fight with him."
Cecily glanced back at Blaise, whose expression was unreadable.
"Really?"
"I never lie."
'Why don't I believe him?' she thought.
After a moment, Cecily couldn't help but ask, "Blaise, can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead."
"Why do you help me so much? I mean, from the very beginning, six years ago when I left the Fitzgerald family, that night when the child was born prematurely."
Cecily had wanted to ask this for a long time.
'Was it really just a coincidence? That night, I had an accident, and he just happened to appear and save me. Then he took care of me, took care of my child, and now, whenever I have a problem, he shows up to help me,' she thought.
Blaise raised an eyebrow. "What are you suspecting?"
"I suspect we knew each other before," Cecily guessed.
Blaise's eyes deepened.
Cecily had her back to Blaise and couldn't see his expression at that moment.
"Are you saying that my saving you back then wasn't a coincidence, but because I knew you before and that's why I appeared to save you?"
Cecily turned to look at him. "Is that it?"
Blaise chuckled. "Don't overthink it. That night, I just happened to pass by, saw you were in trouble, and my sympathy overflowed."
He spoke calmly, leaving no room for doubt, but Cecily still didn't quite believe him.
Seeing her serious expression, Blaise added, "I never lie."
Cecily curled her fingers and rubbed her chin, frowning at him.
"What?"
"I'm suspecting you're cursing me, but I have no evidence."
Blaise stayed silent.
Cecily pressed her lips together. "Even if you might be scold me, I still have to thank you. Thanks for being so good to me all these years."
Blaise's deep-set eyes showed a flicker of interest. "Moved?"
Cecily sniffled and nodded vigorously. "You're so good to me, almost like a father."
"And also, if it weren't for you forcing me to learn self-defense, I might not have survived last night."
Cecily was genuinely grateful. "No, in my eyes, you're much better than a father."
Her biological father might not have been so good to her.
He saved her, protected her, and taught her how to protect herself.
Without him, there wouldn't be the Cecily of today.
The more Cecily thought about it, the more moved she became.
"Blaise, you're a really good person."
Cecily's high praise left Blaise momentarily at a loss for words.
Just then, an urgent phone ring broke the silence. It was Cecily's phone. "Sorry, I need to take this call." Adjusting her emotions, Cecily answered.
"Auntie Sandra..."
"Cecily, come quickly to the Fitzgerald family. The two kids have a fever."
Cecily instantly became anxious. "A fever? Is it serious?"
"Very serious. Come quickly."
"Okay, I'm on my way."
Seeing Cecily's urgency, Blaise immediately asked, "The kids have a fever?"
"I need to go back right away."
Cecily's heart was pounding faster and faster. Rowan and Griffin must have been scared last night, which is why they have a fever.
"I'll take you there."
"Okay."
Blaise personally drove Cecily over.
Cecily felt very guilty at that moment. She had been so busy with these matters that she forgot how last night's events could leave a significant psychological impact on Rowan and Griffin.
In the Fitzgerald family's living room, the servants all had anxious expressions. Seeing Cecily return, they quickly approached. "Miss Watson, you're finally here. Please go check on Rowan and Griffin."
"Has a doctor come?"
"The family doctor is already here."
Cecily's face was full of worry. Blaise pushed Cecily into the elevator and up to Rowan and Griffin's room. Cecily saw their pale faces and cracked lips.
Cecily's heart tightened. Ignoring her own leg injury, she quickly went forward and touched the kids' burning cheeks.
"Rowan, Griffin, Mommy's here."
"Cecily, you're finally back." Sandra was almost in tears. Seeing Cecily return was like seeing hope.
"Rowan and Griffin have been calling for you. The doctor gave them fever medicine, but their temperature hasn't gone down. You know their condition best. Please check on them."
"Mommy..."
"Mommy..."
Rowan and Griffin mumbled in a daze.
"I'm here. Don't be scared. Let me check on you first." Cecily gently comforted two kids, then calmly picked up the electronic thermometer to check their current temperature.
The fever was indeed high.
"What medicine was given?"
