Chapter 648 Who Made Her Cry?

Desmond kept his mouth shut.

He was loyal to Vivienne. She'd told him to keep it under wraps, and he had no right to spill her secret to anyone.

So, yeah, he felt bad, but he couldn't say a word.

"Everyone's got their secrets, and Vivienne's no different. She's got her reasons for staying quiet. Bryan, you should stop pushing. If you've got time, go check on Cecily," Desmond said, feeling pretty helpless.

Desmond was bummed about the whole thing, but he didn't want anyone to catch on, so he kept his sadness in check.

Bryan gritted his teeth, glaring at the stubborn Desmond, super pissed but also stuck.

Getting Desmond to talk was probably tougher than just asking Vivienne straight up.

Bryan knew he wasn't getting anywhere, so he untied Desmond, tossed the rope aside, and stormed out.

Desmond hung his head and let out a heavy sigh.

Seeing Cecily so upset made him feel awful too.

But he really couldn't spill the beans.

Spilling it might just make Cecily feel worse.

They'd only found Vivienne less than two years ago, and now facing another separation? How could Cecily handle that?

Cecily shut herself in her room, refusing to see anyone, calling Vivienne over and over, but Vivienne wasn't picking up.

Cecily was a mess, and then the phone rang.

She looked up, quickly wiped her tears, and answered, "Mom!"

"It's me," came Darian's deep, smooth voice.

Cecily's heart sank. It wasn't Vivienne. Vivienne hadn't answered or called back.

"You cried?" Darian's usually calm voice suddenly sounded worried.

"No," Cecily sniffled, trying to hide it, wiping her tears with a tissue.

She didn't want to admit she'd been crying, but Darian wasn't buying it. "Are you lying to me?"

"Really," Cecily forced back her sobs, staring at the ceiling, trying to keep the tears at bay.

Darian didn't believe her for a second. He could tell she'd been crying, her voice all hoarse. Without asking what was up, Darian said, "I'll be there soon."

Before she could say no, Darian hung up.

By the time Darian showed up, it was already dark. He walked into the Bennett house but didn't see Cecily.

"Where's Cecily?" he asked Desmond.

Seeing Darian arrive, Desmond felt a bit of hope. Cecily had been holed up in her room, skipping both lunch and dinner, no matter how much he tried to get her to eat. He was worried sick, and then Darian showed up.

"Cecily's upstairs in her room. Follow me," Desmond said, leading Darian up the stairs.

Darian's brow furrowed, and he asked in a stern tone, "What happened today?"

Desmond hesitated, not sure how to respond.

"She was crying. Who upset her?" Darian pressed, his deep voice demanding answers.

Desmond felt even more anxious, glancing at Darian before guiltily looking away.

Darian squinted, noticing Desmond's unease.

After a long pause, Desmond sighed and lowered his head. "Cecily's in a bad mood today, partly because of me."

Darian's face darkened as he stared at Desmond for a few seconds. He walked to Cecily's door and knocked gently, his tone softening, "Cecily?"

Silence.

Darian turned to look at Desmond, his expression still grim, his voice even colder. "The key."

Desmond immediately handed the key to Darian. He'd already found it but couldn't open Cecily's door without her permission. However, Darian, as her husband, had a more legitimate reason.

After handing over the key, Desmond quietly walked away.

The room was dark, no lights on. Darian looked inside and saw a thin figure sitting with her back to the door, hugging her knees by the floor-to-ceiling window. She seemed to be looking outside but who knew what she was really seeing.

Darian sensed Cecily was in a really bad place.

Cecily wasn't usually stubborn. Locking the door and refusing to see anyone meant she was deeply upset and needed to be alone.

Darian didn't turn on the light. Using the moonlight streaming in from outside, he walked over to Cecily, bent down, and gently picked her up.

Cecily was slightly startled. Smelling Darian's familiar scent, she relaxed and let him place her on the nearby white sofa.

"Don't sit on the floor," Darian said, squatting in front of Cecily, his eyes on her face. He gently touched her hair, comforting her, and asked softly, "Feeling any better?"

Cecily turned her head slightly and sighed softly, "I'm fine."

"Yeah, you're fine," Darian didn't call her out on her lie. Seeing her upset made him feel even worse. "Since you're fine, how about eating something first?"

"Darian, I'm not hungry." Cecily curled up, hugging her knees, leaning sideways on the sofa.

"I know you're not hungry, but I am. Just join me, is that okay?" Darian said, pulling her up.
