Chapter 117 Cecily was Drugged
At the Watson Family residence.
The grandmother was particularly delighted that Cecily was coming over for dinner tonight, having prepared all of Cecily's favorite dishes.
"Cecily, come sit," the grandmother patted the seat next to her, gesturing for Cecily to sit by her side.
Cecily felt no attachment to this house and, sitting there, she looked at the table full of food with no appetite. However, since her grandmother had always been kind to her, it would have been disrespectful as a younger family member to refuse her.
Cecily sat down, careful not to miss the exchange of glances between Elysia and Liora.
"It's a rare occasion for Cecily to visit," Liora said, her eyes gleaming with practiced insincerity. "You must come more often, Cecily. This is your home too," she called out warmly, welcoming Cecily.
Cecily fiddled with the chopsticks in her hand, the corners of her mouth curling into a cold arc, "Do you all really wish for me to come back?"
"Of course."
The two words sounded so insincere to Cecily that she felt a pang of hypocrisy. Had it not been for her dear grandmother's sake, Cecily wouldn't have been sitting here playing nice with them.
With the grandmother present, everyone seemed to be on their best behavior.
Midway through the meal, Elysia stood up, "Cecily, grandma has been cooking your favorite soup in the kitchen. I'll go check if it's ready."
No sooner had Elysia stepped into the kitchen, Liora followed, lightly tapping Elysia on the shoulder.
Elysia jumped, quickly hiding whatever she was sprinkling into the pot, and turned around with a look of panic to face Liora.
"What are you doing?" Liora whispered, pulling Elysia aside with astonishment in her eyes.
Elysia clutched her chest, lowering her voice, "Mom, you scared me."
"What did you just put in the soup? You're not trying to poison Cecily, are you?" Liora stared in disbelief.
"Mom, what are you thinking? It's just a sleeping pill. Killing her would be too boring. Ophelia said we should make Cecily miserable and utterly humiliated for fun. Just wait and see."
Liora glanced at the pot of soup and couldn't help but smile, "It'd be great if we could truly ruin her reputation, especially with your grandma protecting her. It's time for your grandma to see the true colors of her beloved granddaughter."
Then Elysia's phone rang. She glanced at the screen and immediately answered, "Ophelia."
"How's it going?"
"Don't worry, Ophelia, it'll go smoothly," Elysia reassured.
Ophelia let out a pleased chuckle, "Later, send her to room 406 at the Grandeur Hotel, I've arranged everything else."
"Got it, Ophelia."
After hanging up, Elysia instructed the staff to serve the soup, just as Cecily had finished her meal and was preparing to leave. Elysia quickly called out, "This is the soup grandma made specially for you. It's been simmering for hours. Please have some."
Cecily raised an eyebrow, her cool gaze sweeping over Elysia's face, "I'm already full."
Nevertheless, as if Elysia hadn't heard her, she poured a bowl and placed it in front of Cecily, "Come on, Cecily, have a little. Don't let grandma's efforts go to waste."
Cecily curled her lips into a faint smile, catching the expectant gaze of the old lady, and gracefully accepted the bowl of soup offered to her. Under Elysia's watchful eyes, Cecily lifted the spoonful of soup to her mouth. As the spoon barely touched her lips, a spark of awareness flickered in her eyes, and she glanced at a hopeful Elysia.
Finally, as if oblivious to any underlying scheme, Cecily took a sip and nodded her approval. "This tastes good, thanks grandma."
"Enjoy it, Cecily. If it's good, have some more." Elysia's face was brimming with smug satisfaction, silently deriding Cecily as a fool in her thoughts.
Cecily finished the soup, set the empty bowl on the table, and when she looked up, she didn't miss the excitement in Elysia's eyes.
"Cecily, come sit with grandma in the living room for a while."
"Sure." Cecily did not refuse and wheeled the elderly woman's chair into the living room.
Elysia and Liora exchanged glances, barely containing their laughter.
Cecily chatted with the old lady for a bit but soon started to feel dizzy. Concerned, the old lady asked, "Cecily, what's wrong with you?"
Cecily shook her head slightly, "I suddenly feel a bit dizzy and sleepy."
"Did you not rest well? You don't have to go back tonight; I can have a room prepared for you." The old lady looked at Cecily with worry.
Cecily rubbed her temple, "No need, grandma, I should head back."
No sooner had she said this than Cecily attempted to rise but felt a wave of dizziness and collapsed back onto the couch.
The old lady quickly supported her, "You can't go like this. Stop being stubborn and go rest in the room."
Elysia approached and chimed in, "Yeah, Cecily, don't go back. Let me help you to the room to rest."
Continuing to rub her temple as if she really were overcome with dizziness, Cecily reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Elysia and Liora helped Cecily to the room. As soon as she lay on the bed, Cecily closed her eyes, appearing to fall into a deep sleep.
Elysia, looking down at Cecily with a sense of superiority, gently patted her face. "Cecily? Cecily?"
There was no response from Cecily.
Elysia straightened up, reassured, "Mom, go distract grandma. I'll call someone to come and take her to the car in a bit."
"Alright."
Elysia stood over Cecily, arms crossed, a gleeful smile on her face. "Cecily, you have your day too, despite your usual arrogance in front of us.."
Cecily was quickly helped into the car, with Elysia hopping in right after her. As the car drove towards the hotel, Elysia couldn't wait to share the good news with Ophelia.
Ophelia was already in a cheerful mood, having come to the Fitzgerald's Family residence under the pretext of visiting Sandra, who had just been discharged from the hospital. Despite being upset with her, Sandra, opted to give Ophelia, her future daughter-in-law, a warm reception once her anger subsided.
Elysia's call informing Ophelia that Cecily was en route to the hotel further lifted her spirits. "Well done," Ophelia gloated, "Cecily won't be able to dodge this bullet tonight."
Griffin, about to head downstairs, noticed Ophelia standing in the guest room. He intended to ignore this wicked woman, yet he thought he caught the sound of his mother's name.
His curiosity piqued, Griffin stealthily moved closer to overhear the conversation better.
Unaware of Griffin's presence, Ophelia had her back turned as she spoke on the phone. "After you take her to the hotel, stay on guard there. I can't afford any mistakes; I've got other matters to attend to."
Elysia asked apprehensively, "Ophelia, what else are you planning?"
Ophelia let out a soft chuckle, "With Cecily not at home, I must take this opportunity to find the child she's been hiding. I refuse to believe she's always on guard."
Elysia responded with admiration, "You're just too smart, Ophelia."
"Just be careful not to blow our cover," cautioned Ophelia.
"Understood," Elysia replied.
Once Ophelia ended the call and turned to head downstairs, Griffin quickly ducked into a nearby room. His face was filled with wrath. This malicious woman was plotting against his mom.
Without wasting a moment, Griffin lifted his watch to call Cecily...
